Agreed. I want to move our current 360 into my sons bedroom to replace his flaky old Xbox and get the new, quiet one for the lounge. However, I am only gonna buy the right deal and I've yet to see it!
#6
for those looking for a cheaper version, Microsoft are coming out with a arcade version with smaller hard drive and no built in wireless.
#7
for me this is a better deal than the shopto
Because i just think i am more likely to get good stock from argos
plus my Cashback should track better and their is alot of deals to use with argos
Nothing against shopto but i just feel safer in terms of long term investment with argos
#8
The new system only has 1 year standard warranty, Argos's breakdown care should be £45

To be honest I will probably get the 360 at GAME as I can trade in my Elite 360 against it, their 2 year extended warranty is £30

Even better deal if they includeed free Xbox live!
At least Sony (PS3) dont charge you for being able to play with others online.
They would shift many more units if they stopped ripping us off with that.

Im waiting for a few months till it comes down more then will jump ship from my original Pro console, or if it gets the red lights Ill ship it off for a replacement then buy an S then sell the new console that comes back :)

I dont mind paying for it... it's the price of a game per year and is far superior to PS3's live service. If Xbox did make it free I would hate to see it degrade to the standard of Sony.

Just like the government can't sustain public sector jobs paid for by borrowing, large corps can't run large infrastructures (and networks) across the globe for nothing. Even Sony are going to start charging for premium content.

I'm happy to pay for XBL Gold to get the buttery smooth service.
What I didn't like was the fact I was buying multiple XBL gold accounts so the kids could have their own IDs. MS are due to release a family pack that will resolve this one lingering problem.

The xbox is built around live, and is a much superior service to PSN.

PSN is free, and clearly that is good, but i think you need to weigh up is 27 quid a year for live is good value, if it is, get an xbox, if it isnt get a ps3 or PC, simple.

I DO agree if xbox live AS IS was free that would be great, BUT i personally would rather a supported paid for platform live Live rather than PSN to be honest.

just my 2p

Yeah, I'm getting ripped off by the equivilent of £2.25 per month for an excellent service. Oh the horror!

whilst it is true there was a problem with a lot of shopto customers, i believe they were not the only company to fall foul of this.

i use em a lot but never had an issue, besides you can pay with paypal (or is it google checkout i cant remember) so you are safe anyway.

this is an ok deal at the moment, but giving the console is not out yet, i would wait and see what launch brings, esp you guys who already have an xbox.

Still voted hot.

I thought it was fourty quid a year ?
That's what I pay anyway. Am I missing something.

I think I prefer this deal to the ShopTo just on the basis it's Argos. At leat then if there is a problem straight away you can take it into your nearest store and get a replacement.

So this deal is Hot from me, but just for the convenience.

...the fact that PlayStation Plus is an optional service on top of the free use of PlayStation Network, perhaps?

40 quid? :whistling:

Just a quick Google can get you deals around the £27 mark maybe a little more. If you are paying £40 you are being ripped off.

Agreed Sony do not charge "AT the moment" but they are starting to charge for a "Gold" service in the form of "Playstation Plus" @ £40 P year. So although its free at the moment sony are not Known for "Giving things away when they COULD Charge". This deal seems ok but is the NEW Xbox 360 Without its faults? Is that why they have included an overheating function that Shuts your console off in the middle off a game to "PROTECT IT" I think it looks 100x better but I would be very amazed if they have solved all the problems of the last one. REMEMBER The 1st Elite " Yes we have solved the problem" £300 later and you find out that it crashes after 7mths rather than 3mths......

It looks too good to be true..............

Good Price Tho.

Just to further defend Xbox Live.. do you remember what online console gaming was like before the Xbox? Practically non-existant. It is nice that the PS3 lets you play online for free, but the only reason it's any better than the PS2's online service is because they've slowly been copying each and every feature from XBL.

I do like both systems, but when it comes to playing online, Xbox Live is still the way to go.
#25
XBOX live is better some ways it forces members to play online because they have paid for it. I have both but I dont play games enough to warrant paying for live. So the few time I play online PS3 is the way to go for me. Just depends on your situation really. Generally dont see point in these discussions its about the games your intrested in playing ultimately and what your friends have if your a teen.

You're joking right?
I've been playing online games since the year 2000, starting on the PC and then moving to PS2 online, then PSN, and for those ten years, i've never had to pay a single penny for playing online, or had to purchase additional hardware in order to use it.
The 360 (If i had one) would make me pay for both of those things.
Rip off.

I'd rather pay to eat a cooked dinner, than eat scraps off the floor for free.

BFN,

PC gaming isn't "online console gaming" though, is it, which is what the person you quoted was referring to.

Another 360 thread being ****ed up by PS3 fanboys. Xbox Live is far superior to PSN in terms of gaming/communication options and if you're complaining about a fee of 50-60 pence per week, perhaps you shouldn't be on a site like this one cos you must be ****ing skint.
#31
I appreciate that Live may provide a better online experience than PSN, but I find it objectionable to pay to essentially use my own bandwidth - no matter how little it works out per month. As Niz said though it depends what type of gamer you are. The majority of my gaming is SP, but for people who enjoy getting their arse blasted by some 12-yr old American kid on Halo 3, Live is clearly the way forward :prop:

As for the deal, it's only a fiver more than ShopTo, and you can just take it back to the store should any problems arise... I guess that makes it hot?

can always rely on a console thread to bring out the fanboys.

grow up, for the love of christ, they're machines made to entertain you, not to give you a reason to try and **** off someone elses buying choice.

for what it's worth, i own all 3 of the major consoles, use the 360 most for online, the ps3 mostly for exclusive games (it's getting a battering off Demon's Souls atm) and the Wii......er.....about once every 6 months when a decent game comes out for it amongst all the shovelware.

I don't mind paying the 25 quid a year or so i do for XBL, i feel the service quality justifies it. PSN is ok, but it is lacking in many areas compared to XBL, and I just don't find the service that great tbh. Can't see it improving with PSN+ either, as all that seems to give you is a free 'loan' of games while you subscribe and some meagre discounts on DLC. Don't even bother with the Wii online, it's so crippled it's pointless.

But I digress, the point I am trying to make is that each console has it's strong points and it's weak points. Others' preferences for systems other than ones you own isn't a threat to you, you can still, amazingly I know, play games on your console, no matter what others think of it.

In other words, STFU and stop behaving like 7 year olds in a playground.

But you're not just paying for that. Having demos of every single downloadable game is a nice bonus - that costs MS money. Sony charge developers a bandwidth fee for putting demos on PSN, which is why there's hardly any. Servers are needed for initiating cross-game chat - another thing PSN doesn't have. Inside Xbox offers various free to watch content that's updated nearly every day - PSN has nothing like that. That's a couple of examples. The Xbox Live servers cost MS half a billion dollars when the service first started several years ago and it's been expanded a lot since then. If you were literally just "paying to use your own bandwidth" then fair enough, but you're not.

I started using PSN recently, and as far as I can tell, the online play is superb. Playing online with around 10 different people - no lag, wish I could say that same when I was on XBL, so personally, never had a bad experience with PSN and its almost identical to XBL in terms of functionality, and, to me, has better downloadable games.

Apart from no cross-game chat, no cross-game invites in all games, no party mode, no voice messaging, no multiple voice chat channels, no rep system, no appear offline option, no friends only chat option, no background downloading of patches, no reporting system, no Inside Xbox equivalent, no ability to use multiple headsets online, no ability to log in with multiple PSN IDs at once, no ability to send/receive messages to mates to/from a PC, no live status updates in all games, no autosyncing of achievements etc. - it's virtually identical. :whistling:

Why does every 360 thread end up filled with PS3 fanboys talking nonsense? I don't see the same thing in PS3 threads.

If I'm not paying for that, why can't I have it for free?

Cross-game chat, don't really care - why would I want someone else blabbing down my ear whilst I'm trying to enjoy a game? Also I have this thing called a phone which essentially does the same thing

PSN doesn't have videos? Err.... better check again! Also has an iPlayer portal and an unlimited music video streaming service (Vidzone) - for free. Does XBL?

[edit] Oh, and a browser

So you'd rather use a phone and pay for calls, instead of using cross-game chat (which is part of Xbox LIve Silver BTW, so it's free)? That sounds great. Controller in one hand, phone in the other. As for why you can't have it for free - ask Sony. MS already give you cross-game chat for free, and have done since the first Xbox.

PSN doesn't have videos?

PSN has no equivalent of Inside Xbox, no. Well, maybe First Play, but if you pay 99p to watch that every week, it'll cost you more per year than Xbox Live Gold does. iPlayer and VidZone are cool, but they also have absolutely nothing to do with gaming.
#40
anyone care to explain why Live is smoother than PSN cause i have both and i can't see the difference. i actually perfer PSN and its free
