so what is the point of a 4gb console? for someone who doesnt go online? cos the whole point of xbox is their live service.
#7
I agree that 4GB really isn't much, but with the recent(ish) update allowing you to use USB sticks to increase the storage capacity.

That said I bought a 120GB harddrive to replace my 20GB, as 20GB just wasn't enough, so I won't be going for a 4GB as a replacement!!
#8
Not bad, I was going to wait for this console as I preferred the matt that this console has rather than the gloss that the 250gb slim has, but I couldn't wait and theres no news on a seperate 250gb drive for this one yet which I would of wanted.
#9
tbh i think the 4gb is only being released to be bundled with Kinect, to give them a cheaper(ish) entry pricepoint for a bundle.

god knows why they couldn't have at least stuck one of the 20gb drives in it tho, 4gb is a joke in this day and age.

Well it's 4gbs built-in and if you want to you can use 2 sticks of any brand of 16gb flash memory.
36gbs of max storage (although nothing stops you using multiple flash memory sticks) is all some people will ever want or need and its a significant saving over the 250gb Xbox S.

News of that has just appeared.

So far it's to US addresses only (but it has only just come out) and it's prices at $129.99 = £83.60.
Pricey.

Alternatively you can wait for the correct and specific Western Digital 2.5" hard drive they are using to be identified and the little driver necessary to be made available and DIY with the correct type of plastic caddy.
It's easy and they have never banned anyone for doing this (why would they?).
People have been doing that for years with the old Elites.

No, it's just the return of the Arcade but with more memory.
The new Xbox disc drive is now quiet enough for people to play off the disc without too much noise so a version of the new Xbox S with pared down memory is a decent option for those who don't want to splash out so much cash on a console (especially for younger kids).

The option to use 2 x 16gb memory sticks offers some people as much memory as they will ever need.
(and you can save games to those sticks and play them off of there as if they were a hard drive)

I can see this sku having a lot of appeal.

Can you stick a hard drive on this?

I just want the hard drive enclosure to appear on ebay/dealextreme so I can make my own HDD for a 3rd of the cost.

Bundle for this but no decent bundles for the big brother console? Unless someone can point me at one....

Yes.

See above.
You can use up to 2 x 16gb stick of flash memory.
You can also use a hard drive but the Xbox will format & allow only 16gbs of it to be used for game saves etc.
Alternatively you can just use all of any USB hard drive for your pics, films & music and just leave the 4gbs built-in (along with any flash drives up to 2 x 16gbs) for your gaming stuff.

The thing I've already got an xbox 360 an original launch one but it sounds like a concorde taking off, not good in the early hours of the morning, so all I really need is the console as I've got all the leaders hard drives etc

Older hard drives aren't compatable.

Well it's certainly a lot more than the old Arcades 250mb free and 250mb dedicated to XBL.
Besides with 2 cheap sticks of 16gb (£14 here the other day) it's really easy to get to your (almost 40) 36gb.
You still save money on the price of the 250gb Xbox S
(some people say 250gb is OTT for a game console).

But all we know is he's called The Stig.

LOL

Yeah personally I'd love to load up all my Xbox games onto the HDD and forget about running them off of the disc drive ever again.
A 1tb HDD would be just nice. :)

Whats the games worth on Ebay these days?

Seems bizarre that Microsoft makes both Windows (which accepts any hard disk you throw at it) and the Xbox (which only allows ridiculously overcharged hard drives) - I know it's a marketing strategy, but Microsoft need to stop being so greedy and take a leaf out of the PS3's book.

However, we all know they won't do that, just because it's Microsoft. (_;)

If Windows only recognized Microsoft certified hardware (essentailly a Microsoft PC), they would go out of business.

That can only get away with this overcharging this much is because there is no other competition; ie. no other company can make an XBOX 360 & undercut Microsoft.

Well that's kind of true but it's not the full story.

You can use any brand of 16gb flsh memory drive and you can use the official hard drive, of course.

But if you want to you can use any hard drive on a USB connection - although the Xbox will only use 16gbs of it for game saves etc.
The rest of it is perfectly usable for your pics, music & films.

Personally I leave the 250gb Xbox hard drive for all things game related and use a 500gb hard drive for music, pics and films (if I'm not streaming from my PC).
Format it in HFS+ and you even ditcxh the 4gb FAT32 file size limit (very handy for those .wmv high definition encodes).
