New York break, 4 nights (including flights) at the New York Marriott Downtown Hotel departing 04/09/09.

Booking goes through to checkout at £978.00 but applies a £34.30 online discount so the total comes out at £943.70 equalling £471.85pp.

Not an amazing deal but considering a flight with Virgin would probably cost at least £300, 4 nights in a decent name hotel in New York for around £170pp is alright.
Based on 2 people sharing a standard room with flights from London Heathrow. Flight supplements may apply at weekends or from other departure aiports.

The Hotel sounds alright -

Facilities: Indoor pool. Fitness centre. Roy's New York restaurant. 85 West cocktail bar. Room service. Concierge. Gift shop/news-stand.
Room info: 497 rooms on 38 floors in 1 building with 5 lifts. All with air-conditioning, TV with pay films, alarm clock, high-speed Internet access, mini-bar, safety deposit box, iron and board, and hairdryer. Rooms with 1 king-size bed or 2 queen-size beds, sleeping max 3 persons.

-Trip Advisor rates the hotel at 88%

Thats a pretty good deal, you wont find it a lot cheaper. Nearly all the hotels I searched for on Manhattan come in at £70 per night, this ones own website asks for $220 (£134) a night. Best flights i've ever seen were £250, so thats a fair saving.

London Heathrow.
Other airports require a supplement.

Thats a pretty good deal. I'd rather fly Virgin than the Kuwait deals, and the Marriott Downtown is a good hotel which at £170 each for 4 nights aint bad! heat and rep OP

I remember the expedia.com/au USA flight glitches last year... THAT was a bargin..
#7
Excellent deal. Can even change the flight times so that you can make the most of your stay without paying more

Me and my mate went to LAX £140 return, hehehehehe

Yeah we were lucky with theExpedia flights too. Had an amazing time and well worth it. Fingers crossed another glitch will be along soon.

I always feel anything less than a week in NY or anywhere in the US would be a waste.

Hot from me.

Took the missus for her birthday a couple of years ago and we had a great time. The money we saved on the shopping that we bought meant that the trip virtually paid for itself.

Oh, and if you do take this offer, go to a place called Woodbury Common. You'll get even more bargains as it's an outlet center. We got a bus from the Port Authority which takes about an hour. Return ticket at the time was about $30 each.

I went to NYC in March on that deal....be nice if something like that popped up again????

Has anyone got any idea how/why the Expedia.au flights were so cheap?

For anyone going for this deal, I have stayed twice at the New York Marriott Downtown hotel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. There's a subway station a block or two away from where you can get directly uptown to Times Square in minutes. At weekends the area around the hotel is quiet (it's near Wall Street) but very safe.

Bear in mind that whilst the fitness centra remains, the pool has closed permanently.

I've never stayed in a bad Marriott - sounds like a great deal. You can walk anywhere in Manhatten from Downtown and see nothing but famous landmarks and sights all the way.

Not the best time to be going to the USA looking at the exchange rate.

Although its at its peak for 2009 its still way down on 12 months ago.....

Hope it reaches 1 pound for 2 dollars again, but might be waiting a while...

Let's face it, the way our currency is performing on the world markets it's not a good time to go anywhere. You can't live your life waiting for exchange rates to get better!

An exchange rate of 2:1 only happens once in a blue moon. A rate of 1.6:1 is more the norm.

True, but when I went in March 2008 it was close to 2:1, something like 1.9:1
Made a hell of a difference for a trip that you dont make that often.

You can do Glasgow to Heathrow in 8.5hrs if you time your journey right, just make sure you don't hit the M25 at the wrong time and take the M6 toll.

Also, if you're thinking of going to New York for the usual sight seeing tour, try the New York Pass:

Too tired to write more, but it's not bad and will get you fast-tracked a bit. Hope this helps someone!

I went in March 2008 (I got a very good deal through an offer posted on this site).
In May 2009 we went again (via the excellent expedia.au deal = £141 return ).

I find that getting a good deal on flights/accomodation (like this one) makes a lot more difference than the exchange rate moving a little.

Thanks, this is a great price. We've booked with Virgin Holidays many times and always get a great price and great service.

and don't worry about the $ rate it's ok now remember it went down to around 1.25 in February.
#24
Great deal, but does anyone know where I can get cheaper flights as I already have a hotel booked.

You should be able to get an additional 5% off that if you own a Virgin credit card.
10% off Virgin Holidays if you own one.
You don't even have to pay with it the card, you just have to own one.
