Newzbin half price topups - running untill Jan 1st

For those of you who have Newzbin accounts, for the next 3 weeks you can top up your account for half the normal price: 52 weeks = £7.80

It's that time of year again, and so I take great pleasure in declaring the annual Newzbin half-price sale OPEN!

Topups made by credit/debit cards are now 15 pence sterling per week (down from the usual 30p). Topups made by Amazon gift certificate or manual bank transfer are NOT discounted and remain at 40 pence sterling per week - sorry, but these take too much manual processing by us and we don't want to be flooded with them.

Exchange rates are currently volatile but 15 pence is approx 22 US cents, or 17 eurocents.

This year, you have 3 entire weeks to get your topups in; the sale will run from NOW until the clock in my office (in the GMT timezone) tells me it's 2009. ie, the price will return to normal at 00:00 GMT on January 1st 2009. (My plan is that nobody with a life will be topping up at that time and so there'll be no tickets complaining they were 30 seconds too late, see?)

While the promotion is active, the maximum you can buy is the entire year, and the minimum 8 weeks. For a short time only, account signups are also re-enabled.

Clearly this year our circumstances are changing, and as ever it's your own choice if you want to topup. If you do we appreciate the support and we'll all see what 2009 brings for freedom of speech in the UK. Remember also you can donate if you'd like to throw more at us than the maximum amount allowed via topups.

Excellent, mine runs out Sunday :) HOT! I use giganews which is always fantastic.
#23
Good deal but I think they will be gone soon along with other indexing sites :(
#24
I cancelled my Giganews subscription a while ago as it was just too expensive. I'm going to try usenet.net next which as it happens is run by Giganews anyway.

i was with them for 2 years and it was fine for movies but found that any games where incomplete it also lost all its servers so they gave us a free 2 weeks not very good at all im now with giganews and had no downtime at all and i also pay for encryption with how the piracy laws are so best to be safe.

Why pay a subscription when you can buy a one off block of gigs here
http://usenet-news.net/
Works for me

I was going to say the same. Their web site has gone Dutch at present ti would appear, but I could log on and topup. I hit max adsl speed with them consistently.
#35
Thanks for the headup. I moved over to usenetserver after my hitnews ran out and it's doing fine BUT has anybody else noticed the sudden dramatic increase in the number of spammers and hoax postings lately? I'm convinced it's a determinded effort by the American media moguls trying to ruin usenet [if I didn't keep checking on what I'm doing I'd be convinced I was paranoid!]

I've been a loyal newzbin fan for ages - the legal battle has already effected the movie section but the tv section is still top notch. I may sign up one last time and see what happens.

Why when Astraweb is the best deal out there? $11/mo unlimited downloads, SSL included, 20 connections 160 (IIRC) day retention.
I cancelled Giganews for Astraweb it was a rip poff in comparison all it offered was a higher retention but at 3 times the price!

As for Newzbin I still can't decide to stick with it or not NewzLeech is such a good free alternative. Newzbin looks like it's about to get into a lot of trouble and has already dropped reports as I understand it. The way results are displayed is a lot better though.

At this price I might just go for it anyway though :-P

I've noticed a few tv listings gone in the last week, not a lot but still enough. Movies seems OK to me still?

Ive used thundernews.com for access as its quite cheap, or at least was as I was paying in US dollars.

I've used the 240 day retention from Giganews quite a bit, I wouldn't downplay that aspect of their service.

I can't understand why you're paying for an indexing service when there's plenty of great free alternatives.

I looked on the Astraweb site but I can't see the $11 plan you mentioned.

[edit] Found it :).
