I was looking to guarantee a couple of big Xmas packages would arrive before Xmas, and found the Post Office somewhat lacking. After a little on-line research at MSE I found this deal, which amazed me.......

Basically you can use "parcelmonkey" as an on-line agent to book a next-day courier service. The couriers are, apparently, DHL, Fedex, City Link, etc. You can send packages on their "next day before 6pm" service, up to 10kg, with £50 insurance for just £6+vat (i.e. £6.90)! Additional insurance is available for valuable items. You can also get £2 of Quidco or topcashback on your first order. This effectively makes a one-off deal of £4.90! CRACKING!!

You do all the booking on-line and then pay for the service. You then print off a label which you stick to your parcel. The courier will then come and collect the item and deliver it the next day. You can even specify a work or neighbour address for collection if that helps.

p.s. credit to robot1000 who posted this 5 weeks ago. I hadn't registered that deal at the time and I hope that reposting it now helps someone else this week with their Xmas pressies!

EDIT - eldudereno (and others) have suggested using http://www.parcelbee.co.uk as a slightly cheaper alternative, especially for big packages - i.e. £6.49 for up to 30kg. No Quidco or topcashback though....

be warned, Parcelbee seem to be going under. see here http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1100290973&tstart=0&mod=1267474832158

Out of interest, I made a few orders with parcelmonkey via quidco. The quidco link previously made no mention of the £2 being for new customers only. Has anyone contacted quidco about this?

£50 is not a lot of insurance for a 10 kilo parcel. I'll stick with special delivery. Still a good find if you don't need £500 insurance.

mumbojumbo
What's the insurance cover on this please? Is it possible to upgrade cover?
Royal Mail Special Delivery is £21.65 for 2-10kg, £500 cover.

Parcelmonkey
Insurance for packages with value up to £50 is free of charge, if you require insurance to a greater value please enter that value above.
Up to £600 insurance is just £12.

Taken from website, so £18.90 with £600 insurance is better than RM,

And they take paypal, ideal for shipping ebay parcels.

Used this couple of weeks ago. City Link picked up and delvd the parcel

Just checked, it is for new customers only.

ive used them twice this week and both xmas offers of next day delivery both items were fully trackable and they arrive next day even when picked up at 3pm they were fab and will be using them more often they were so reliable unlike parcel2go who often dont turn up for me

Parcel Bee are £6.50 incl VAT for 24 hr up to 30kg delivery, have sent about 15 parcels off in the last 7 days, they've been great, UPS have been picking my stuff up.
#14
Used to be £2 per order but changed to first order only last week.
#15
Cool!!! i think i will use these from now on, RM annoy me
#16
For comparison, I got a quote for a 100cm by 50cm by 50cm box, weighing 9.8kg. Wanted me to book a 250kg quarter pallet (I think) - in any case they were around 50% dearer than interparcel.com who did it for £28 via citylink.

Interparcel claim to be sending 15kg parcel for £5.99 so I'm not sure this is a brilliant deal - might just appear that way cos of RM pricing policy
#17
the annoying thing is the insurance is only for new goods and not second hand

So are quidco honouring the cashback from previous orders when there was no mention of the £2 being for new customers only?

I thought that was just with the Fedex service?

I have used them several times and find the service excellent. I even get a text message on my mobile phone when the parcel has been delivered. Merry Christmas to all on HUKD.
#21
Also depends on the size of box...a 5kg large item can cost more.
#22
I've been looking on the money saving expert forum, on the massive thread on delivery couriers etc, the opinion of the best courier has move has moved over to Parcel Bee from Parcel Monkey, just a heads up for everyone. I have also used Interparcel quite a bit recently but they're not as cheap as Parcel Bee are at the moment. I'm not affiliated to anyone by the way, just trying to advise.
#23
I've used them 4 times before it became 'First order only'.

The first order tracked fine, the second didn't so I have put in an enquiry.

The other two have not tracked either, so will submit enquiries with those too as I did them before the 'one per customer' rule changed.
#24
Very good thread I think. I didn't know Parcel Bee or Parcel Monkey before. So it is like a massive help for me. Now I can save ££££ for sending big parcel. Thanks Mr. Poster.
#25
Me neither cheers, heat added.
#26
Used Parcel Monkey a few times - always been Fedex picking the parcels up. Great service though.
#27
Very good service. Heated.
#28
Thanks, I'd never heard of them either. Unfortunately just 10 minutes too late to stop my OH paying £12 for a 4kg parcel with RM! Will remember in future.

For those querying the quidco change - I placed 80 orders with PM based on the assumtion that I would get £2 quidco PER ORDER as per the quidco page (this was all in November before it changed to first order only) - I have been submitting earning enquiries for the missing ones but someone who is connected with PM has posted on my reply on the MSE thread that they will only pay for the first order and that they never intended to offer £2 per order , basically saying that quidco posted the offer wrong.

I am really really annoyed about it as when I noticed that they weren't tracking, I contacted PM to see if they were aware there was a problem and they replied saying they don't have any control with quidco and its nothing to do with them , I contacted quidc who said there was not a problem PM and it must be my cookies and I would need to put an enquiry in for each one - which I started to do until this chap said at the weekend they wouldn't be honouring them.

I always use quidco as a bonus - if it tracks it tracks however in this case this was the incentive to use them as I was expecting a nice bit of cashback from it.

Needless to say, I have just booked todays parcel with ParcelBee instead.

Next day Courier (up to 10kg) within UK - £6.60 only applies to UK MAINLAND - as usual not the whole of the UK
#32
I thought I'd check out Parcelmonkey after hearing many good reviews, but the low insurance value and high cost to upgrade it has put me off - sending a valuable item via special delivery is still far cheaper :(
#33
Been using for YEARS and are fine and dandy...

Have quidco specifically said that they won't pay up? If so, I might send off a letter to Trading Standards as that's quite blatant false advertising by Quidco.
#36
They Have Replied To My Query By Saying Was Only Ever First Order..but It Clearly Stated Each Confirmed Order.
#37
used twice - both items badly treated although on time

i would pay more for a better service.

I had a parcel to post to Ballymena. Parcelmonkey wanted over £20 as it was a "remote" place to deliver to. I tried Parcelbee and got it for £6.50. Thanks for help and advice in this thread

PM have said they won't be honouring it so the enquiries will be declined - quidco can only pay if they get the money from the trader so its safe to say it won't be paid.
