Years ago my mate worked for Bupa and told me of one of the remaining ways to get 45% off Bupa, was to join the NFU (no, you dont need to have a tractor!) I did this and still have the discount aft…

Does anyone know if the BUPA discount can be applied to an existing BUPA plan?

It should do, but not until your yearly renewal date, ring Bupa on 0800 010383 its worth asking before you join.
Personally I have the countryside membership, you DONT need to be a Farmer, and you get a Countryside Magazine every month.

DrBones - As you say, Bupa are probably quite happy to get the extra revenue, but you dont have to be a Farmer to be in the NFU

I can get a Bupa discount now through the Fire Brigade, a lot of Corporations can get discounts for their employees, but this gives a bigger % off.

I don't want to get all heated up about it; but the question of whether the OP is cheating by joining the NFU when he isn't a farmer isn't as clear-cut as it might seem. I grow some tomatoes and peas myself. Does that qualify me to call myself a farmer? Surely if the NFU wanted to check that you were a commerial farmer, it would be easy to request some proof before they accept a member?
I imagine they are quite happy to benefit from the extra revenue and it doesn't cost them anything to offer the discounts.
BUPA are unlikely to offer the discount because they feel that farmers are a much better health risk, so the discount is probably to recognise the extra customers that the NFU can generate for them. I don't think they'd be crying over it either.
So, I'm not sure who's getting hurt here. If you can tell me, then perhaps we can send a doctor to treat them?

Absolutely right - it's simply affinity marketing. Don't worry about Mascherano: he stalks HUKD with his own weird view on life, the universe and everything else.
