Painstakingly restored and remastered - this is horror legend George A Romero's legendary masterpiece as he wants it to be seen!

The story begins casually enough; a brother and sister, go to visit the grave of their father in a remote graveyard in the woods. There, a strange man grabs at O'Dea and her brother rushes to her defense at which the man bites him and knocks him out. Terrified, the girl jumps in the car and speeds to a nearby farm house to get help. She goes inside, and the house appears to be deserted and the phone disconnected. She looks out the window and to her horror she sees the man trying to get inside the house!

That is just the beginning of the seminal horror movie that is Night Of The Living Dead!

And the special effects by some amateur called Tom Savinio are just terrible. Not convincing in the slightest.

Needs to be remade. The guy who directed Transformers could probably make it interesting.

That was it - the effects were rubbish. I know it was a long time ago, but it just wasn't scary. The videogame was cool though.

If its the version with the added footage filmed in the 90s then its terrible,i checked around awhile back and 2 versions are great, one is The Millennium Edition and i cant remember the other, the millennium one is only available region 1 tho

Now I know you are joking. Either that, or you are still quite young, say under 20; and rely on special effects to dictate how good a film is.
The fact remains that this is a classic and has been ripped off so many times in so many ways because it set a benchmark.

IMO horror films that depend on special efffects.just become gore/shock factor flicks
The best horror films let the viewers imagination fill in the gaps
My favourite horror films are probably
The Entity
Pet Cementery

Old ones, but good

I dont know how you could even think of comparing this film to the Final Destination Trilogy. There good films but not at all scary in my opinion.

This is a classic film. Shouldnt be re-made as up-to-date remakes of Romero's films are usually carp compared to the original. Im only 21 and absolutely love his films and have got i think all of the "Of the Dead" series of films.

New special effects are rubbish to be honest. Give me the ripping flesh from dawn of the dead and day of the dead.

If anyone hasn't seen this film, and isn't bothered about the extras on the DVD, then why not just download it.... and yes, its legal!!

http://www.publicdomainflicks.com/0015-night-of-the-living-dead/

Just to clarify the copyright issues, and proves this is legal....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Living_Dead

Night of the Living Dead lapsed into the public domain because the original theatrical distributor, the Walter Reade Organization, neglected to place a copyright indication on the prints. In 1968, United States copyright law required a proper notice for a work to maintain a copyright.[82] Image Ten displayed such a notice on the title frames of the film beneath the original title, Night of the Flesh Eaters. The distributor removed the statement when it changed the title.[83] According to George Romero, Walter Reade "ripped us off".[84]

Because of the public domain status, the film is sold on home video by several distributors. As of 2006, the Internet Movie Database lists 23 copies of Night of the Living Dead retailing on DVD and nineteen on VHS.[85] The original film is available to view or download at no cost (completely legally) on Internet sites such as Google Video, Internet Archive and YouTube.[86][87][88] As of October 2, 2008, it was the Internet Archive's second most downloaded film, with 515,561 downloads.[89]

Be aware that this is a cut version of the movie.
It's not been cut by the BBFC, but for some reason the version put forward by the releasing company was missing a few gory scenes, rendering this version worthless when compared to the multitude of other releases of this movie on dvd

"They're coming to get you Barbara!" (Johnny in Night of the living dead).

"We're coming to get you Barbara!" (Ed in Shaun of the dead).

Classic horror translates to modern classic horror/comedy

I'm sure copies of this film are always dirt cheap because it's black and white and because anyone can print them off and sell them cos' Romero forgot to copyright it...LOL.

I still think it's OK but the best 60's black and white horror IMO is The Haunting. For some reason it creeped me out first time I saw it.

Check out the Final Destination series for real scares.

LMAO...does baby need changing?...look at all the pretty colours.

Absolute classic for me - love the series!

I've also had the pleasure of meeting both Romero and Savini on separate occasions and they were both great.

@andywedge and JasonMason - I know it's hard but...

Great film, but this is not a good disc at all - have a look at the bottom of the following link for the full extent of the butchering...

http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=1041

Might not be important to some of course, but it's slightly offensive for them to call it "Romero's legendary masterpiece as he wants it to be seen".
