DVD Description
Night Watch: For centuries, the battling forces of light and darkness have kept an uneasy truce. The undercover members of the Night Watch have formed a supernatural police force, protecting the world against the Dark Ones - the vampires, witches, shape-shifters and sorcerers that wage war in the night. At the same time, the Dark Ones have a Day Watch that in turn polices the forces of light. The fate of humanity rests in this delicate balance between good and evil, but that fate is now in jeopardy. Ancient prophecy foretells that one day a Great One will arrive who can end the battle between light and dark forever. That time has arrived in Moscow - but which side will the great one choose? The first instalment in an epic Trilogy, Night Watch is a hyper charged supernatural horror with mind melting special effects... our future lies in their hands.

Day Watch: Only one thing stands between peace and Armageddon: the supernatural agents of Day Watch, who fight to control the armies of light and darkness. When the son of a senior Day Watch officer turns to the darkness, forces beyond the imagination are unleashed and the fate of the world hangs in the balance! Like The Matrix, Day Watch combines cutting-edge digital effects and mind-blowing action to create a stunningly original world. This Directors Cut takes you on an even wilder ride with more intense thrills and incredible effects.

Synopsis
This set contains sci-fi action thriller NIGHT WATCH and its sequel DAY WATCH, both made by Russian director Timur Bekmambetov.
NIGHT WATCH is an old-fashioned good vs. evil parable that relies on some thoroughly modern special effects to ensnare its audience. Set in present-day Moscow, the movie begins with a quick skip back through the centuries to inform us how a delicate truce was struck between the forces of Light and Dark. These forces still exist in Moscow, with both sides keeping a close eye on each other as they attempt to disguise themselves from the earth's mere mortals. NIGHT WATCH's central character is Anton Gorodetsky (Konstantin Khabensky), who is defined as an 'Other' by the legions of Light and Dark. Anton and his cohorts live as vampires, and await the arrival of a virgin who will announce the resumption of hostilities between the forces of Light and Dark; as the film progresses, it becomes apparent that an epic battle is just around the corner.
DAY WATCH centres on an epic battle between forces of good and evil. An uneasy truce has kept the armies at bay for centuries, but that peace is about to end, and it will pit vampires, psychics, and witches against one another. Both factions, the Day Watch and the Night Watch, have beings of extraordinary power called 'Great Others', and if these two people meet, a supernatural war will begin. Anton Gorodetsky (Konstantin Khabensky) finds himself torn between his son, the dark side's Great Other, and the woman he loves, the champion for the Light Others. DAY WATCH (DNEVNOI DOZOR) explodes in the mind-bending space between THE MATRIX and UNDERWORLD.

These are in Russian though so prepare for some subtitles!! :)

Fantastic films. Needs a bit of patience with the subtitles, but after a while you just don't notice them at all. Special effects are amazing. Looking forward to the english language remake in the near future after the success of Wanted.

Only seen the first which had some promising scenes, but ultimately failed to deliver - the second is not supposed to be as good either

Thanks SugarRay, some people have luck using the 5 % vouchers on play so potentially cheaper there. The other good option was £4.98 from Amazon for anyone with prime, no quidco but usually faster delivery.

the trailer for this was freaky! Only seen the first film, paid £10 a pop for both films. Voted hot, bargain if i didnt have them!

If I remember rightly these are the versions without the "special effects" subtitles. They just come up like regular DVD subtitles. Just to let people know as they were one of the best parts of the first film for me!
#9
I really enjoyed these films, though they both make infinitely more sense if you have read the first "Night Watch" book.

Been waiting for these to come down in price for a while. But it is true, these are not the Theatrical versions, which means no fancy subtitles, just plain boring ugly ones.
So I'll wait for the theatrical version to come down in price. To get the fancy subs I think you need to grab the special edition dvd with 2 discs.

First film is good, books are better. Haven't seen the second one, but from what I've heard it's rubbish, but I'll still get it anyway.

As for the deal, yeah it's ok. Fractionally cheaper elsewhere though.

I loved the first movie. Maybe expected too much from the sequel, it was watchable though.

Question, do the books come with english subtitles? :p

Sorry, they're dubbed :o
Good deal, but I prefer the theatrical versions with funky subtitles. God, I'm shallow. Have a matchstick of heat. It probably isn't lit though, matchsticks are warmer than 1 degree surely...

Buy the Bluray versions if you don't like the subtitles. Both films are dubbed into English. Superb films.
