Don't you press the button on the top to change from Camera to Movie to Scene modes???

I quite like this camera, so have voted hot.

BUT please note: some of these models have an production fault see here:

Ths camera DEFINTELY has a movie mode, maybe you should have read the manual before you sent it back. If you looked on the top/back (as has been suggested) you would also have seen the movie icon on the shooting mode button.

Looks better in the hand than the pic. A nice camera but there are better models at this price or less.

also the battery life sucks bigtime.

Oh there's a surprise, Jessops have got something wrong. It does have a movie mode.

DP Review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_cpl18.asp
and not a bad rating really.

Thats the problem with AA batteries, although if you'd bought Energizer Lithium batteries you coan eaisly get 200-300 pictures

Mykaleon will you please stop misleading members about this product because of your own lack of knowledge. You are plainly wrong about the movie mode on this camera, there IS one all you have to do to confirm this is Google it or look at the Nikon site:

http://www.nikoncoolpix.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Digital-Camera/25597/COOLPIX-L18.html

Steve's Digicams gives it a decent review, although there are better cameras, it's a decent entry-level camera for beginners. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/nikon_l18.html

Social Lurker is also correct in that the amount of use you get from batteries depends on the power output of the batteries you choose to use. A good set of rechargeable batteries has served me well with any digicam taking AA batteries and it's always sensible to keep a spare set in your pocket.

Two members pointed out that you were incorrect yet you still insisted without checking your information, a manufacturer's website is first port of call. Also, capitals are considered shouting and therefore rude.

By incorrectly insisting there was no movie mode you may cause people to vote this cold for the wrong reasons. You also said you returned this to play because it had no movie mode and then say you only stated what jessops website said, which is it? Anyone with personal experience of a camera would read the manual before sending it back, surely? It's also quite clearly shown on the camera body with the shooting mode button that movie mode is available.

"i am just giving my opinion"...are we not allowed ?

it's Jessops that are incorrect ...it's in black & white on their website.
also i found the pic's from this model no better than the pic's from my Samsung G600 mobile which has a 5mp camera.
by the way the two brand new batteries supplied with the camera lasted no longer than 15 mins.
have i not the right to point this out to members so they can purchase appropriate batteries ?

Your 1st post made no mention of Jessops, hence misleading.

Get a set of Sanyo Eneloop hybrid rechargeable batteries - they'll last ages. I get about 250-300 shots on my power sucking Pentax K100 SLR.

Or get a set of Uniross Hybrio's at Maplin- they're come with a free recharger at the moment, its a special offer.

Now you're just spoiling this thread with more ill-informed comments, the alkaline batteries handed out with any cameras that take them are just standard ones that never last long in any high-drain device like a digitial camera. That's why it's always recommended to buy some decent rechargeable batteries or (as has been pointed out) use Lithium ones.

Also, not all cameras are initially set on the best settings when they leave the factory so it's always best to read the manual to see what to set it to. Of course if you'd read the manual in the first place then we wouldn't be having this conversation.
