Is this better than yesterdays Canon?

Never saw cannon, i saw fuji deal for £99 or less at tesco
#3
was only £99 few days ago, worth a wait, as they always drop price especially this one :)

I saw one at Tesco for 89 or 99. Personally I don't think that these "superzoom" compacts are worth the money - once you zoom in, the resolution becomes so terrible that you only really want to use half the zoom range.

Not sure what you're talking about, resolution is in no way compromised by zoom unless you are using digital zoom. The 30x on this camera is purely optical so your shot at maximum telephoto zoom is exactly the same resolution as when at max wide angle.

I've no experience of this particular camera but I own and use a Nikon compact zoom with (from memory) about a 15x zoom and very good it is too. The problem with extreme telephoto shots is physically steadying the camera to frame the shot, you are getting the 35mm equivalent of something around 500mm and no-one would use a 500mm lens without at least a monopod and preferably a tripod. This particular model gives you the equivalent of 675mm which is huge. IMO the longer telephoto lengths are largely academic on a camera like this and more of interest to the sales team than to the user.

Yep, Sounds like you are using digital zoom which is quite different to optical, I used to use optical on my compact and quality was awesome if I could avoid camera shake

Another Argos waste of time deal.. Please note item 1293005 has previously been on sale at 99.99.

Buy it now at £119.. Yeah great deal

I got this the other week from Argos (plum colour £99). Seems to be a decent camera.... the 30x optical zoom is quality!

Obviously not. Every lens has a resolution, and it is limited by the circle of diffraction, which is in the range of 5-7um for this lens. Even if it was perfect, it could not create a feature on the sensor smaller than that.

Which is all nice and fine, except that the pixel pitch is 1.3um. Which means that even the smallest feature will be smeared over 3-5 pixel. Finer details are just gone, and even the best sharpening cannot bring them back.

Look your pictures zoomed it at 1:1, and you will see that the camera never produces an image that is actually worth 16mp. For facebook it is fine, but if you want to enlarge it or print it, you will notice the shortcomings.

Camera has been this price since Jan when I got mine in Argos. As for AA batteries. I got 4 Sanyo eneloops and took 400 shots on the first charge so nothing to worry about.

I have this camera,as expected it burns AA batteries ( x4) so you need to factor in the price of a couple of sets of good rechargeables or a set of 100 alkaline from maplins like I did.
Although it records 1080p the quality is crap it's like they flashed the firmware to support it. It actually records better in 720, this is why I think they have pushed the camera to support it . iPhone 4s beats the video on this hands down.

The only good thing about this camera is the zoom but I don't have a 90ft front room so is great when you actually need it ( never ).

I wish I had bought a nice compact with a bit of zoom, less bulky and most likely better quality photos.
