To compare Nikon with Sony (in SLR cameras) is a crime......... Nikon can only be compared with Canon and nothing else in this category. Thanks for appreciating in advance.

I sort of agree with that. Although some of the entry level Pentax SLR's are great too. The cheaper Sony DSLRs are really tacky.

I've ended up in the Nikon camp via Pentax and Olympus. Had live view on the Olympus, really not worth having tbh.

Either way you're best off going with Nikon or Canon for the sheer number of lenses etc available compared to other makes.

Just don't expect a cheap Canon kit lens to be any good.

Personally I'd plonk for a Canon but this is a really popular (although slightly older) camera.

It's a very good price for an entry level Nikon and the lens is a good one, but no Live View.
If you can afford the extra then the newer D3100 is a much better camera - or if you can stretch to £500 the twin VR lens D5000 kit at Jessops is brilliant value.

when I did my research about a month ago (main criteria price and quality), this camera came at the top, I bought it for 329 from Argos and I am well chuffed with it to date, excellent value, obviously if you can afford better model no problems, but for this price, it is a steal....

well worth recommended....

Aren't they all using Sony sensors or have the others started making their own yet?

You're far better off going to a decent camera review site (just google the camera name and they come up) rather than listen to halfwits who spout off like this, trying to get a reaction from somebody. Anyhow, good deal for an entry level SLR.

rubbish, some of the sony slrs are very good, better spec/value compared to canon/nikon, and some models nikon make the sensors for them !
all sonys have build in image stablising, major plus for 1st time buyers
