Take the route of creative, high quality SLR photography when you choose this remarkable yet competitively priced Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens as a great entry-level camera.

Driven by Nikon's potent EXPEED 2 image processor, this 14.2 mp camera delivers photos with beautiful clarity. The amazing D3100 will also allow Full HD movie clips with sound, so you can choose exactly how you want to record life's precious moments!

Easy to use, the D3100 Digital SLR Camera sports a selection of exposure modes that cater to complete beginners and the more experienced shooter alike. If you're unused to SLR photography and want point and shoot simplicity, Scene Auto Selector will automatically choose the best scene mode for your subject. At the opposite end of the scale, those wanting more creative control can make use of the more traditional fully manual mode, or shutter and aperture priority modes.

The Nikon D3100 is an advanced camera that beginners can grow into! There's even a Guide Mode to help the less experienced photographer achieve the desired results.

The lens included in this Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera kit is the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX NIKKOR. Taking the 1.5x crop factor of the D3100 sensor into account, the focal length equates to a 27-82.5mm zoom (35mm equivalent), which is great for subjects ranging from landscapes to individual portraits. The built-in Nikon VR image stabilisation allows more flexible hand-held shooting in lower lighting conditions, providing up to 3 stops of extra exposure. You'll enjoy impressive optical quality and fast, quiet focusing with this versatile kit lens!

Delve into the world of unlimited impressions and explore your own voice when you look at life through the eye of the Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens!

Quality of images and features should be in the same league as the Canon EOS 550D, but for nearly £200 less at this price. If Nikon also introduce a cashback offer, which they often do around Christmas, this will be truly great IMO.

This camera has continuous AF in video mode, but , its rubbish :( its noisy and it doesnt AF particularly well.

Check out the videos on youtube. I'd still probably go with the 550d.

Im personally waiting to get the panasonic GH2 when its out later this month

Can anyone please explain why this is being voted cold? It is a brand new model with a very impressive spec., which is already receiving very positive reviews for its excellent picture quality, which is as good or better than cameras costing substantially more, being sold by an established retailer at £35 to £50 less than the next best price.

Yes, arguably the Canon EOS 550D and the Panasonic GH2 mentioned above may be marginally better in some areas, but the Canon is nearly £200 more and the Panasonic (when it is released) is likely to be at least £300 more, so why cold? :|

good deal ; if you want really good video buy a separate camcorder...

DxOMark says the sensors isn't as good as the one in the older D90 and D5000 (also shared with the Pentax K-x).

It's the best price around for that camera and by what we know so far it's a good camera capable of excellent results. Hot from me.

Some trolls here vote everything cold. Some people won't vote hot unless it's something they want to buy. Some just don't get the concept. Some only vote for their mates. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the Canon fanboys will vote Nikon stuff cold just because it's Nikon (and vice versa of course). And some people wouldn't recognise a bargain if it came up and bit them - and probably wouldn't recognise it a second time either.

Sometimes I do despair of this site when you see how some people and some deals get treated.
Then again, just occasionally somebody comes up with something really good and makes it all worthwhile again! :-)

This camera was tested against 11 others in this months PC Pro magazine (including the Canon EOS 550D). The D3100 won the PC Pro Labs Winner award and the PC Pro A-List.

Pentax K-x won PC Pro Best Value award and the Sony NEX-3 won the PC Pro Recommended award.

I'm not surprised to hear this, the reviews I've seen of the D3100 have been very positive, yet as of now I notice that a deal for the Canon EOS 550D, priced at just over £600 and posted a few hours after I posted mine, is currently at around 250 degrees, whereas the D3100 has just about limped back above zero.

I am tempted to say the lesson is if you want to post a hot deal, post a Canon, not a Nikon! (_;)

Interesting to know.
