Lovely camera, very hot price...

The D50 is better in several areas and is around the same price. Good deal still.

any idea why this hasn't made it to the home page even though it's over 30 degreed?

Because people think Canon is the bomb when really Nikon has been proven better on several occasions (and usually more expensive too!)

If you want good out of camera results this is better than the D50. If you want to mess around afterwards processing raw you will match the quality with a D50. D50 is also bigger, it's LCD is smaller & viewfinder darker. The downside of the D40 is you have a limited selection (30 or so) of autofocusing lenses.

Thanks kemot1984, nice camera

hmmm not sure it compares to the recent deal on the much superior Canon EOS 400D for only £350.
Might have been a great deal if it were the Nikon D70 or D80

Maybe we've just been spoilt here at UKHD?

This is a great bridge camera between your point and click & the SLR market. I've looked at this camera in depth and it’s a fantastic bit of kit for any eager amateur photographer.

By the way – don’t listen to Jessops when they tell you that the D40x is better; they're on higher commission rates for the D40x and it’s not as good as this D40. Voted HOT.
