£236 for the D40 a few days ago, to be honest, the D40 has a slight better image quality, although its 4 mp less, they dont have to squeeze more pixels in. D40 is a better camera say the reviews.

Plus, PURELY GADGETS are an awful company, they dont stock anything so things take ages to arrive.

COLD on price, camera and store. sorry.

the d40/d40x debate has been done to death on dpreview.com

if you are after a starter SLR, which is what both of these are, I would get the d40 and use the extra £100 towards another lens, flash or other accesories. The real world differences between these for most users would be negligible.

If you then find you get into it and your needs grow, flog it on ebay and get something else - otrher than a d40x!

alot of people think that megapixels means more quality, it doesnt. It means size.

As an owner of the D40 and D80, I find the d40 has certain pluses against the d80, and vice versa. The D40x diddnt come into the discussion when I was looking for a smaller camera to go with my D80.

Really tho, the D40x is not a bad camera, but I would stay away from purely gadgets. I emailed them to ask if they had the lens I wanted in stock, they said yes. Then I ordered, 2 weeks later it did not arrive. Then after some review reading, alot of the stuff is imported, with warranty and service down to a minimum.

? Eh ?

what planet did youn come from? 10 mp is an excellent spec' and will produce excellent results! weather or not the camera is suited to everyone is one thing, but to state that one of the latests models with very good reviews doesnt cut it, shows perhaps a little ignorance as far as photography goes...

They are both rubbish, so are all 10mp DSLR's with the exception of the CanonEOS400D (which by pure chance I happen to own), its down to light infaction polarisation refraction. I have no evidence to back this up but hey, who needs evidence when you can just spout some random garbage like in the Nikon D40 thread?!?!.... plus I dont own one which again according to the D40 thread means I have the right to say its rubbish.

You're a little tetchy today!

Since when have people had the time to read everyone else's postings to check if they are kidding or not?

Camera is fine, lens is a goodie, 10MP in a DSLR beats 10MP in a 'bridge' camera out of sight. If I had paid this I would be happy enough, but the EOS 400D (better camera, worse lens) is now hitting <£300 on the more trusted Ebay sellers.

If you are looking on this post then you probably looked at the D40 thread too. Also if you read what the OP put you will see how my comment fitted in as tongue in cheek.

Jessops had the D40x +18-55 lens in their recent sale (which I believe is still on) - in store only (not available online) you could get this bundled with the Nikon (non-VR) 55-200mm lens, Nikon binoculars and a free lowepro 160 camera case for £399.99.

I posted this deal just to see how people respond to the price difference to that of the D40. When people see the D40X price many comment ''It's £100 more, just get the D40 and an extra lens'' etc, etc.... People don't seem to factor in price when comparing the equal Canon models however.... The D40 is so much cheaper compared to anything else on the market, and people who actually own the D40 don't say a bad word about it.
