First time I've seen this under £500 and it's well under £500 ! Excellent VR lens included

Well worth the extra £100 or so over the D3000 for the tilt and swivel LCD screen alone

Not a bad price.

A couple of weeks ago I managed to find a deal for £529 from Jessops including 8% Quidco, a £65 Canvas Print, £50 Cashback from Nikon and a lens cleaning kit!

The price is heading in the right direction although as it Amazon the price will probably go up again so worth buying it now!

How does this compare with Canon 450D???

Offer doesn't seem as good as first though considering £50 cashback offer ended on 10th Jan.

I know that, but having held both there is no comparison.

D90 will have 18mm-105mm VR lens for that price, far superior to this 18mm-55mm VR lens.

Good price. But I guess it was cheaper with the Nikon cashback

This isn't a camera comparison site but a price comparison site. The D90 may be a better camera with a better lens but at almost £800 it should be.

Only vote COLD if you can find it cheaper elsewhere....

Both viewed as good cameras although the debate between Canon/Nikon is never-ending.
The D5000 has movie mode and a tilting LCD but does not have an internal focus motor, which means many lenses won't auto-focus on it.
The 450D is 2 years old in May, but has a slightly larger LCD and a larger range of lenses that will auto-focus with it.
It all comes down to image quality in the end so check out a few reviews and take a look at the sample shots.

Thanks. Rep added. Any opinions out there re 450D vs D5000?

I'm thinking movie mode may swing it for me. As this will be my first SLR an all rounder is looking a better bet. Unfortunately can't buy at this price. Will wait till its below £450 at least.

I would'nt accept the Which scores without checking with more detailed reviews elsewhere on the internet.
