Note: this is not the standard kit lens, but the superior 18-105mm (27-158mm equivalent) zoom - quite possibly all the lens you'd ever need.

£180 less than the next best price for this package.

Been out for a couple of years now, but this is still a superb camera and an exceptional price bundled with the 18-105mm VR lens.

Also available with the kit 18-55mm lens for £349.99:

http://www.jacobsdigital.co.uk/p-37619-jacobs-digital-nikon-d5000-18-55mm-vr.aspx?affiliateid=10052&awc=3099_1298466647_5485aebbf3a83ed61eaba4f62f5e71d2&

....but I think the 18-105 deal is better.

According to CameraPriceBuster, next best price for this is £580!!!

(Possible 3% Quidco, which would bring the price down to £387.99).

But it won't be anywhere near this price. And it won't be that much better. The 3000 to 3100 wasn't that big a leap.

Buy this and sell the lens and upgrade to the Sigma 18-200mm OS or Sigma 18-250mm OS and you've got yourself a package that is perfect for most situations.

I have this lens for my D40. Well worth the extra £50 over the other D5000 deal.
#6
Have you got a working link? I want this!

Just dropped in to Currys and D5000 was for £349.99 as 'clearance stock' (28 to 55 VR lense kit)

Stunning price, personally wouldn't get the D5000 with the D3100 surpassing it, and an update inevitable sooner rather than later, but still an amazing price for what you're getting.

Think I'll be waiting for a higher res screen before I upgrade, tempted by the D90 but will see what comes around the corner this year!

Woah!

D5000 is one of Nikon's worst cameras in years. Mine's going on eBay this week :(

Yeah sure; a bunch of reviews from 18 months ago by advertising funded sites is obviously the way to make a buying decision.

FYI, the autofocus is pitiful, the JPEGs are soft and it persistently underexposes.

You could only say its a D90 in a smaller body if you've never used a D90. Utter nonsense 8)

Those are not "upgrades"! lol

They have more range but are not better optically, especially the 18-200mm Sigma which is not a sharp lens at all.

The reviews are from 18 months ago because that is when the camera was launched, duh. Admittedly those sites are a bit crap, especially Ken Rockwell.

DPreview is a respected site and they gave it 75% http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond5000/page33.asp

It does have a lot of the D90 in it, same sensor, for example.

However.....mine often misses focus, though I have no problems with exposure.

As for the jpegs being soft, yes they are, as they are on the D90 too. All you have to do is change the setting though.

This offer doesn't seem to be valid anymore, the other two are still valid though.

The Digital SLR world has moved on a lot int eh last 18 months so all reviews should be looked at in that perspective.

Must just be in your hands as it works a treat in mine.
