Are you happy with the camera? Do you recommend the camera or the Canon 500d is a better choice?

Thanks

Bought the D5000 few weeks ago with the Nikon cashback. Very happy with it and will highly recommend it.

Excellent Camera Changed From Sony A200 Which Was Very Good But Nikon Was A Step Up Very Impressed

Don't expect Quidco to track and get the voucher codes to work, unless the voucher codes are quidco approved.

Probably wiser to choose what gives you the best deal overall. Quidco is never guaranteed either, of course.

Not voting, as nice kit, and seems a good deal, just not in the market for it atm, and not enough time to study it fully, on either a voucher code or Quidco basis

well since the voucher is 5%and quidco 3% you might as well do it anyway and hope the quidco does come through.

I did a LOT of research into these 2 before buying.

The only advantage the 500 has in reality for me is a better resolution screen. I however get much more use of the articulated screen on the 5000. Add in a few more cool features like an intervalometer on the Nikon and the decision between the 2 becomes easier. I also have a Canon SX1 so I'm no fanboy!

I'm also a stickler for image quality and when you compare the 2 - the Nikon wins. See here:-

Canon 550D is out very soon and is available to pre-order, very nice camera but the price is a bit steep, should come down after a few months, 500D will remain a current model. :-D

550D Body £799

550D + 18-55mm £899

550D + 18-135mm £1099

I love it when I make such elementary errors B-)

Seems I bought this camera on the only 3 weeks that they weren't doing cashback. Gutted.

This is (edit) £469 at Amazon before Nikon cashback.
CameraPriceBuster is always a good site to check.

I want a D90. Does anyone know if Dixons is UK stock and thus is eligible for Nikon cashback??
#17
Way better price at amazon though it's a marketplace seller.

ALL5 voucher has expired so this deal is pretty cold now seeing as the Currys original price is £529.99
#18
Amazon's price was £520 yesterday when I posted the deal... now way better in Amazon @ £470 + Nikon cashback!
#19
Anyone know if the this has an AF motor in it? Or is it like D40, etc. and you need to get a lens with an AF motor?
#20
Great price - am still saving to buy a good DSLR camera... hope similar deals are still around when I've got the money saved up... lol

Like the rest of the DX range, it uses an external lens motor (AF-S).

But despite that I bought this camera a few months ago to replace my D40 and I have to say its a brilliant cam! Apparently the sensor is the same as the D90's but with better noise reduction, I can shoot on ISO 800 with next to no noise and 1600 with very little (though I tend to stay away from high ISO regardless). Good all round cam and definitely worth the cash.

When I search on Amazon, it is £469, but then when I click the camera, it's £519. Damn, wish it was £469, with the £50 cashback that would be great.

Amazon are at it.

When I saw this thread this morning I remembered that Amazon were selling this for 469 a month or so back ( as I got flamed for saying the D90 is far superior). I checked and they were not selling it directly this morning, it was some other dealer.

Now that the Nikon cashback has started its being sold by Amaon but at 519.

D90 has £60 cashback BTW

It was £469 through another dealer this morning but there was only 1 camera in stock at 9AM. Now I'd guess that's been sold so you are back to the Amazon store price of £519. It's been going up and down for a few days now, so keep an eye out on camarepricebuster as it will probably drop back below the £500 mark again soon.

I don't suppose anyone knows whether purchases from Dixons.co.uk qualify for Nikon cashback.
I want to buy a D90
