Nikon D5100 inc 18-55mm VR Lens £426 Amazon £426.19
Had my eye on this camera for a while, and just noticed Amazon have dropped the price to £426.
Seems like a good deal, which I hope is of use to someone.
I have only posted one deal on here previously, and dont know how to add a pic...apologies.

I just bought one few days ago, arrived from hong kong in 3 days.. wonderful customer service
18 - 55mm lens not worth buying.. Frankly its worthless.
wrong
both canon and nikon make excellent cameras for beginners, those in the middle and pros alike...

I wouldn't say that at all - it's a great starter lens and is known to be of good quality. Combined with a model such as the D3100 or D5100 it produces some very nice, sharp images which will suffice for most people, or until they can afford to buy some decent primes to replace it with.
What an odd thing to say. Nikon and Canon are both good brands, with both of them selling amateur and pro cameras alike, to appeal to different customers. In my personal opinion the Nikon models at this end of the range feel much more solid and deliver just as good, if not better, image quality and have the same, or better features.
Compare the Canon 1100D to the Nikon D3100 or the 55D to the D5100 and you'll see what I mean.
But at the end of the day the actual choice is down to personal opinion and what works best for you.

I have found the Nikon to be geared towards the absolute amateur, the Canon seems to be an easier camera to use when you venture out, have owned both.
The lens is the most important. I haven't looked back since I bought my prime 35mm 1.8 :-)
Nah, you are totally wrong on this kit lens. I guess your comment is based on the build quality, which is not great, it's OK but the main thing is the terrific performance and combined with the D5100 in-camera fixes the results are hard to beat - go check for yourself at dxomark or test it against a pro Nikon lens costing a grand (Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 G AF-S ED Lens) like I did and see it hold its own.

I think people are missing the saving you have shown in your post ^^^^^^^ check it out everyone.
I'm a complete beginner to photography and it was a toss up between this and the D3100. Main reason I went for this is because of the flip lcd screen. Which i've found to be handy, aswell as having a better resolution than the screen on the D3100, its also great to flip the screen out of the way when not in use to avoid damage. Also, if you plan on using the camera with manual settings, this has a better iso range than the D3100 which makes it much more future proof in terms of improving as a photographer.
Also, if anyone is thinking of getting this as a starter camera make sure you pick yourself up a Hoya 52mm UV filter. Only reason I've bought one is the protect the lense!
This price is definitely HOT for a D5100.
