great camera if you have the need & the readies..
#2
Great offer wish I had £1664 lying around
#3
Best price by around £100, great find.

Although with Nikon's free grip promotion, I can't help but feel they're selling off stock to make way for a new model.
#4
got this camera amazing for the price , this is a smaller version of the pro d3 Over £1000 more) with anti-dust, . If you get the grip don't bother with the en-el4 . just get the rechargeable eneloop and you'll be shooting at 8 fps.

I'd not count on this being eligible for the free grip offer as the cameras are most likely not from Nikon UK. Might need to do some homework if buying from these guys.

hdewcamera sell grey imports, so I'm 99% sure that purchasing from them would make you ineligible for the free grip. I haven't read the T&C of the offer though, so that 1% hope is still there :)

and don't forget Quidco for 3% (10% voucher is compatible).

If the 3% is pre-VAT, it should mean another £47 off the price.
#10
Awesome price.

I'm a D700 owner and it is the most staggering piece of kit.

Chuck the 50mm f1.4G AF-S on the front and taking photos in near darkness becomes a reality.

I have that lens, and also the 24-70mm f2.8 - £1500 worth of glass and worth every penny as well.
#11
Great camera though it's worth noting these kind of promotions by nikon usually precede a camera update - I do a lot of low light stuff so personally I'm waiting for the july/august release of a d700s with the new d3s chip inside. Heat and rep added.

Just in case that puts anyone off, it's worth noting that the last big freebie was an SB-900 flash for buyers of their most recent model, the D300s.
#13
Well, I don't want to put anyone off buying this camera - I have one myself - just wanted to make sure anyone buying it for it's low light capabilities was aware of nikons typical two year product cycle...

shouldn't this start a new debate to replace mac vs PC?

Nikon vs Canon

Canon for me with the 350D, 40D and 2 5D mkII's :)

Will say this is a good price. Had a good play with this on a 600mm lens the other week. Focusing is pretty quick, low light is tasty but I'm happy with the 5D's :)

Thing is, just because there might be a new model out soon, this is, and will always be a superb camera.

It is built like a rock, beautifully balanced, accepts pretty much every Nikon lens since 1970 (or earlier), produces wonderful images and is genuinely a joy to use.

It might be *only* 12MP but the image quality with the right lens, coupled with the incredibly low noise means this baby is perfectly good for poster sized prints and beyond.

As always though, investing in good glass is the way to go if you're on a budget. Quality lenses hold their value, and my £1200 24-70 will still be worth a lot of money in ten years time.

Couldn't agree more! I've got the 24-70mm f2.8 too and it's simply sublime - it really does make you realise what a vast difference there is between the cheap kit lenses they throw in with the lower end models and a proper 'professional' lens...

Ahhh... if only my budget could also stretch to the new 70-200 f2.8 VRII... looks like I shall have to stick with my old Sigma 70-200mm for the meantime...

Indeed, the replacement for this model is rumoured to be announced on 1st July, to be called either the D700x or D800 - and it's supposed to have (depending who you believe) 24Mpixel resolution sensor, 6400ISO before extension, and 1080p HD video capability. There are a host of new Nikon dSLRs due out this year replacing their current range...

Specs for the new D700x/D700s/D800 or whatever they choose to call it seem to be changing daily! My guess is that the new model will look and perform more like the ultra-sensitive D3s rather than the ultra-highres D3x - ie. ridiculously sensitive ISO rating but resolution nearer 16mpixel. 1080p video is a cert too, I'm guessing. I hadn't heard that 1st of July was the expected date of announcement but that would be good as I'm dying to go full frame! :-)

Just bought 2 of these! One for me and one for my dad! bargain!

Now you see I'm a landscape man, and it's the 14-24mm f2.8 when I've got £1299 to blow...

The creative possibilities with that lens are awesome.

The way I see it, these semi-pro or pro DSLR's are long term investments.

Not the same sensor as D3S is it though? Its basically identical to D3's, but a notch behind the latter. That said, the high ISO is still ridiculously insane with a fast lens.

Londis: couldn't agree more. I'm a Canon man (but only by default ) this is an awesome camera and is sublime to use. I much prefer how Nikons feel. Stick a quality lens on the front and you have yourself a bit of kit that will blow you away.

I'm not sure about the MP race that Canon seem to be leading at the moment, I would much prefer smaller MP but outstanding low light performance. I would willingly trade 6 MP of the Canon 7D for better low light performance - but hey that's just me. I am sure 18MP on a APS sensor suits the market place better than my requirement!

I just need to sell all my Canon kit and go for Nikon - any takers?

Hop over to www.talkphotography.net

They're a bit annoying at times, and you need 100 posts before you can advertise, however, that's the place to sell your kit.

To quote the Borg: Brand is irrelevant :whistling:

I think you'll find that's paraphrasing. I don't think the Borg ever really discussed marketing.
