Recent firmware update has improved speed of operation.

Not what I would call a compact as it doesnt have a flash, my Sb900 would look a bit odd on it.

Pretty impressed with this camera. Purchased for a trip to the niagra falls - exceptional image quality. Loaded pictures of the CN tower from the toronto islands on amazon uk site.

Nikon will be releasing the P8000 in 2011, which should be a big improvement on the P7000. You might be better off waiting for the new model.
