At the moment they are reducing them the most 7-10 days before departure.

Great find. Can't make the dates in May but I hope they reduce the dates in June nearer the time as I'd love to go on this!!

Would Egypt be too hot at this time of year though? Would just be for 2 adults so I'm assuming it'd be ok?

We went in June a couple of years ago.. It's very hoy, but bearable.
The boats are air conditioned, with splash pools on top deck.
The trips tend to be early morning or late afternoon, to avoid the hottest period.
At this price you really must go..It's a steal..LOL

There have been a couple of unexpected heat waves in Luxor recently (over 114F) ... so this might be a different type of hot deal
#5
Hot (literally). I'm not in a position to go this time, but will hopefully be ready to pounce when this happens again.
#6
I have done these twice. Make sure you read up on some reviews of the boats before you go. I went through COSMOS. Good travel company and high level of boat. £399 in May last year.

looks a great deal but stick with pontins too hottttttttttttttttt

I'm originally from Egypt and I can tell you that this part of Egypt (the south) will be BOILING during the summer, I would say 40-45 C.

But don't worry, this part of Egypt is dry so you won't feel it as hot as you would feel 40-45 in the UK. I would go if I can take time off work!

My only advice is, once you arrive, go to one of the shops and buy a 'jalabiya' - this is a traditional dresss that people in the south use. It's like a long dress and will look nice in photos. Also, unless you have blue eyes and blonde hair, you will look like an Egyptian and street sellers won't know you're a tourist and rip you off ;-)

Nice price shame they only have Gatwick or Manchester departures otherwise I would have had one. Drink not included. Shame....

Forgot to say that I normally pay £300-£400 for a return flight to Cairo. Luxor is another 1200km further south. So, to get the flight, cruise,...etc for £299 it is definitely a STEAL!!!!
#11
Are these cruise any good for singles?
#12
Yup, I'm gonna have to agree on the boiling comments. You've gotta remember you're twice as close to the equator down there as you are here.

I was in the Sinai but it was easily topping 40-45 on a daily basis for two weeks in June. Took some quads into the dessert, like mad dogs and English men and it topped 50.

But must be said it was truly beautiful. Have to confess I went for the Scube but I've never dived anywhere else that even comes close to be so vibrant not even the Caribbean. I'm off to the GBR this summer so I'll be able to compare for myself but many people say Egypt is better simply because, to date, it's not been abused as much as the GBR.

Be careful what you eat on these things.

A neighbour of mine fell ill with severe stomach pains and was given 2 injections. She went to the doctor when she got home and a couple of days later called the doctor out again.

She died the next day [last Saturday].

What did she die of though?

So What ! ... at this price u could take a pack of washing line pegs with u,and even use a new one everyday.

all the good stuff is optional on these cruses, which really bumps up the price... hmm

As you said it's optional, you don't have to pay for it unless you want to.

At this price, you will struggle to get a return direct flight to Luxor only so even if you're getting NOTHING while you're on the ship you're at least getting free accomodation ;-)

That's my opinion anyway.

from what I have heard although some of the cruise boats on the Nile are wonderful, the majority are pretty rough.

I went to Egypt a couple of years ago for a weeks cruise and then a weeks stay in Hurghada... absoloutely fantastic, the people are so friendly, the scenery is stunning and the history is fascinating... I really enjoyed cruising on the Nile as well- so much fun. Everyone on our tour got 'Egyptian Belly' but so long as you drink lots of water it doesn't last long (they also have some great anti-cramping medication out there that you can buy over the counter which worked wonders).
If I wasn't in the middle of exams (Oh, and broke!) I'd snap this up.

I was ready to book for the half term school break, then realised it is Monday to Monday starting the 26th May.

Shame - think I'll have to go on my own and leave the family at home!

Sounds like Harold Shipman all over again.

Just sharing my experience, we went on a Nile cruise last year in November. It was fantastic!
We were on a very nice 5 star cruise, the service was superb and the food simply amazing. We did all the places listed above and I highly recommend that you go on the balloon flight at the Valley of the Queens for an extra £45-50pp.
We will definitely do it again in the future. We paid around the same price for the cruise but went directly through an Egyptian travel agency.
If you can do the cruise, do it!

 You get TEN trips included in the price....
The only extra trips to pay for are Abu Simbel, which is a long drive 4hrs necessitating a 3.30 am start LOL...(worth it though), some evening light show trips,( which I found not worth paying the extra for)
Also an optional full day excursion by air to Cairo and visit the Pyramids.. Again worth it, but an alternative way to visit the Pyramids etc. is take a holiday to Cyprus, then book the three day trip to Egypt..Probably only cost as much as the extra for this optional one day trip.:whistling:

The wonderful boats would cost you between £1000 and £1500.. or more..
Yoy still only get to see the same attractions, but agree it would be nicer to go on one of the luxury boats...

But hey 4* for £299.. beggers can't be choosers..LOL.. That's why I booked.

does anyone think its worth gambling?

e.g book a future date off work and not book the holiday till 14 days in advanace? do they always lower the prices to 299 a week or two before the departure date?

anyone know?
#27
Thet seem to be reducing 7 to 10 days before departure date.....
But if all berths sold then they won't need to reduce.

Book this and take a sicky LOL.
#28
I went on this in July last year. It was ridiculously hot but as long as you stay covered up and drink plenty of water, it was manageable.

The ship was great, lots of choice on food and the excursions were amazing. You have a trained egyptologist who is your guide for each one.

Fantastic deal, I'm very tempted to do it all over again !!

Stonkingly good value - if I hadn't booked a last minute to France yesterday I'd have signed up for this now. Only thing I'd say is that its possibly not one for those with delicate tummies

From my experience between Luxor ands Aswan it doesn't - but then I went in early March (only 30-35 degrees).

I'd definitely reccomend a Nile cruise - we went on the Crown Prince (Thomson) - our best holiday ever.
Even in March it was hot inside the temples. I think in the hotter times of the year they get you up very early for the tours to miss the heat.

Where did you book France if I may ask? - I'd love to go to France this coming long weekend. Thanks.

I have been on ile cruises 3 times.

Two best tips are, make sure you get atleast a middle deck cabin!!! you don't want to be sleeping with the crew!

2. As alreadys tated do as much research as possible on the boat, you will staying on it for a week and it will make a big difference, just the level of quality on the boat in general from people's past opinions will give you a good idea of wha tthe food is going to be like on the boat, which can vary greatly.

Shalkamy cruises are a good company to go with, been with them twice.

I don't know, we had a tasty Egyptology guide on our boat...

Do a search on this company they have recently had lots of bad press in Africa. I have done the Nile and it is a great experience but do not expect european 4/5* on the boats.
On our trip all excursions were free but the guides did ASK for £35 per head as a tip.

really good trip i did it a few years ago, the nile scenery and the excursions were top notch, great price
