I'm the one who posted that offer, and it's only if you have the required DS console. It's a great offer for those who do, but this ASDA offer is a brilliant deal for those who don't have a DS to trade in or don't want to trade their DS in.

is that the one where you have to trade in a ps3 to get the £110 off, can't see many people wanting to do that.
can't believe how much nintendo are charging for this hand held console well over priced so my son won't be getting one X)

No, it's one where you trade in a DS for a 3DS at HMV and get more than you usually would. You get £110 for a DSi XL, £80 for a DSi and £50 for a DS Lite. As for a PS3, they say you get £190 for a PS3 Slim 120GB.

Its not really overpriced, consider the technology that's inside it and you will see its not over priced, Where can you get a Games console with a 3D display Built in 3D camera (video as well) for under £230.00?? I think you mean that is too expensive for you to justify buying for your son.

unless your one of those people who believe company's make these things for penny's and sell for hundreds??

but Nintendo always have made profit on their consoles and so they should, but i am not to tell you what you should and shouldn't buy your son, but I guarantee this will be the most wanted thing this year by kids aged 8 to 80!

i currently have 3 on order, for my kids the enjoyment the DS has given them over the years then i feel its worth every penny.

overpriced gadget for a kid when you think that christmas was only a matter of weeks away, cant imagine many parents will have a spare £200 knocking around at this time of year.
yes nintendo, like any company is in business to make a profit but you can't tell me it costs anywhere near £220 to make one of these and companies like nintendo know they will make more profit from the games to go with it
but hey feel free to buy him one if you want ;)

it's not just a DS with 3D, it's a completely new handheld, capable of much better graphics, and lots of other things.

But it's not 'just' a DS, is it? Apart from the 3D screen (which has to be seen to be believed, btw), it's significantly more powerful (you only have to look to at Resi Evil or SF4 to see that), has 3D camera capabilities, improve connectivity, a big chunk of battery-backed RAM for downloads, and more besides.

Good deal, though a shame the initial launch day line-up is pretty poor at the moment if the one on game's website is correct. was hoping at least zelda to be in there though it will apprently not be out until June so will wait to buy i think and hope in the extra couple of months some better games come out and the price goes down. We'll see!

Somehow I dont think the DS is capable of this

These are graphics better than the PSP, it will be interesting to see how it fairs against the PSP2 due to be announced Thursday.

It's $250 RRP in the States. Retailers are obviously bloating the price up as Nintendo haven't disclosed an RRP for the region and says it's up to retailers.

$250 is ~£160. Most UK retailers have it for £220 which is complete ****. That's how ASDA are able to make this sale. £220 - £15 (discount) = £205. So they make you think you're saving a crap ton when really they're overcharging you.

Yes other consoles are more expensive after conversion too but the price margin has been increasing more and more. The DSi was £150 and $170 (£110).

I'll wait for the 'lite' version next year, hopefully one that is left-hand compatible. Nintendo have a habit of using first time buyers as guinea pigs for their handhelds.

The problem is Nintendo got into trouble a few years back for fixing the price of the Wii which cost them millions. They have to leave it up to retailers to avoid having the same problems again.

The same can be said for you, its not that expensive for you, however, that doesnt mean its not overpriced. Nintendo should remember who their marketing is mainly aimed at (kids and casual gamers), its a heafty price for those people. They have messed up in the past on pricing and caused their consoles to become a failure.

I doubt it'd happen for the 3DS, but the general opinion from most is that Nintendo are really pushing the limit of an acceptable price for a handheld. Their "casual" market for gaming is actually pushing more towards Apple and their cheap 59p games etc (sadly i have to say), so expensive consoles and expensive games arent a good combination.

As for the 3D tech pushing the price up, possibly, but im sure theres quite a big markup on them still. The 3d tech is apparently not that great for long term playing either (plenty of reports of dizziness/feeling sick after 15mins play).

You should all stop going on about the not as good as it can be hand held console because nintendo have made it a basic console in the first place wait 6 months and you will be craving the new improved 3ds / lite / 3dsi / xl. Early adapters shafted in my opinion they have done it over the past few years which i think is just purely ripping ppl off that are loyal to nintendo i won't be buying the poor mans 3ds i will wait for the finished product

Read my post above, this price cannot be blamed on Nintendo, its down to the retailers.

Agree, shopto is much better deal. Plus there customer service and delivery is the best I've ever seen over the net. Good price if you can collect from the store. Warm deal but not hot.
#25
With the posts being made regarding price, Nintendo are selling it to retail at £173 per unit, so there is a lot of room for deals / price cuts as the release date gets closer.
#26
£199.95 with Shopto.
#27
Its overpriced compared to the jap/us price and really its overpriced for the hardware involved. Performance wise its not much more powerful than psp.
#28
When the 3d function is disabled are the graphics the same as a normal ds?

thanks
#29
No the graphics are superior to the psp, you are looking top class ps2/gamecube graphics for the most part
#30

£199.95 with Shopto.

Or £194.99 with GameGears
#31
Don't forget despite the graphics being better than a psp everything has to be rendered twice for the 3d effect, under the hood the specs are much better than the psp

I've never fully understood this viewpoint. What/when exactly is the finished product? In case you hadn't noticed, technology is improving all the time, and companies like to take advantage of this with redesigns. Nintendo aren't even the only culprits - see Sony with the PS3 Slim and various iterations of the PSP, and Microsoft with Xbox 360/slim. If you're always waiting for the "complete edition" of something, how on earth do you go about buying a TV, computer, mobile phone etc??

Although the Shopto price is a slightly better .....I'm sure your average consumer would feel more confident ordering from a larger, well known retailer. So it's still worth voting hot even if it's £2 more.

ASDA should at least be commended/supported/promoted for being the first major retailer to drop to around £200...as the more sales they take..the more likely that other large retailers will feel pressured to follow suit..

...and i'm sure all potential 3DS purchasers would be more than happy to see an early price war.

This isn't a DS though! It's a totally new console. 3DS games will not work with DS consoles. Just look at what Warerare posted. Show me a DS available now that can do that!

The 3DS is more powerful than any handheld console available. More powerful than the Wii.

Yes for £200 you could get a Wii or a Xbox 360 but there lies the problem. The Wii & 360 have 5 year old tech inside them. The tech inside this is brand new so of course it will cost more.

Do you expect a handheld Xbox 360 to be cheaper then the home console version? It wouldn't be, because when you shrink that kind of tech into a smaller form it costs more money.

Nintendo's price is justified. This is what the iphone and ipod have done to the market. Minimal upgrades for last years price. This isn't how the game industry works. They upgrade to the max every 5 or 6 years which equals higher prices.
