Nice. Personally, I'm either going to wait for the inevitable Lite version, or I may get suckered in if they do a Zelda-branded one!

it might just get a little hot in here.... ;)

Personally, I think they're great. Can't wait for the really good games.
This had a lot of bad press today in a newspaper I saw... about how people were getting terrible migranes and someone took it back after '3 minutes and couldn't get a refund'... Load of nob'eads

Looks good, think I'll wait until a few of the bigger titles are released though.. and I have more cash :)

It's all a load of bullocks though, the entire article was based on some guy telling a story on some forum, and we all know how reliable that is.

The article on the sun website is amazing, here is a quote
"The 3DS flashes separate images into each eye, creating the illusion of depth."

They could have at least checked how the 3d effect worked before writing the article. Not sure there is any flashing going on.

Anyway.... Good deal! Hot.
#7
There is flashing there was a Program on tv about 3 week ago demonstrating how it works. Flashes of two separate images.
#8
You need the powered 3d glasses to see the flashing 3d.

Headache issues have been known since it was unveiled last year. Nintendo released a bunch of statements this week about it. Lots of chains are offering limited time no quibble refunds because of the large numbers of complaints. A simple Google search will net you thousands of results on the issue.

In japan the used price for the 3DS has dropped in a big way. Some retailers were offering less than 50 US dollars for used units this week. Once the 3D gimmik wears off and people realize the software isn't there and that Nintendo are selling us the same tired IP's for the 4th generation the price will bottom out here too.

Wait a few weeks.

Flashing 3d requires active glasses.3ds uses lenticular screen to project a different image into each eye. That's why u have to sit directly in front for it to work. Tilt the screen left or right and you'll notice a double vision effect.

Sorry odebuzz. No flashing. For future reference don't get your tech news from The Sun
#11
Oops. Apologies ode . Think I need to put my 3d glasses down and get some real ones
#12
That's what I said, no flashing?

@mk1982
Just because one retailer was offering $59 doesn't mean anyone sold it that cheap. I bet I could buy a new one on eBay for £250 - £300 doesn't mean that's how much they are worth.
Loads of people probably bought these thinking they could make a few quid off them like they did with the wii, but it looks like nintendo shipped more than enough to cover the demand and now people are trading them in for whatever they can get. The launch games are weak and not having the online shop set up for launch was a massive mistake but i think it'll survive.
#13
I need to sort my 3d glasses out too! That was meant to be @sixtwo

Sold mine to GAME this morning. To be honest i would save your wonga until some decent games come out, not just rehashes.

I still stick by my experience of playing SF4 on the 3DS. It is like those optical illusion holograms you got with jellied sweets as a kid. I wasn't impressed by the 3D and the price is way too expensive for a hand held, but then again if people can justify paying that much for it who am I to argue especially after paying £50 for a Razer Onza lol

why don't people just tone down the 3d effect or turn it off if they have problems. that's what the slider on the right is there for.

IWOOT has bad reviews from its customers (2 out of 5 stars). They don't seem to honour the sale or deliver the items on time. Has anyone used them before ?

No, you put it down till your used to it. As you can put it up in stages. No wonder the world is in trouble if people can't figure that out...

I've voted based on the price (hot) however, be warned with IWOOT. I bought my 3DS from IWOOT when the last deal was posted, they use DPD and my god I had a problem with them. Delivery driver forged my signature and left the parcel outside my house for passers by to see and steal. Luckily a neighbour saw it and took it in!

I love the 3ds, hooked on pilot wings at the moment! There are limited games at the moment but so what, they'll be new ones out soon enough!

You can still use your old ds games with the 3d turned down.

It's a good console! Good deal!

Its not a bad console, but I never used a psp and didn't use the DS much. I have Super monkey ball and Street fighter 4 so far, I will be getting ridge racer later on today. Its not the greatest games line up but its early days. I haven't played SMB since gamecube days so its quite fresh to me again, it has seemed very easy so far. Dissapointed monkey fight mini game couldn't be played over the internet, that would be fun.

I bought SMB as it was only £21 on a well known auction site brand new UK stock. I've got SF4 and Ridge racer for my birthday, which is today. I have played SF4 so far, its smooth and good graphics. Some bits you can see its "handheld" graphics but the characters look good, the backgrounds are only still rather than dynamic like in Xbox 360 version.

I preordered from IWOOT for £167(?) but late march I cancelled it as I didn't really need it then and wanted to save my money and like the DS was concerned with how much games cost (I buy xbox 360 games a lot cheaper). But then I thought if I get one I can get people to get me 2 games for my birthday and I found a deal on priceminster to get it for less than £158 (£175 + tcb). I find its easier to pick up a handheld and play rather than playing on a console for some reason!

About the 3D, its okay, I wasn't sure what to expect at first, I thought it might look like it was projected off the screen (I seen a 3D tv once thats all) but its more about added depth. SF4 the background looks in the background and the characters in the foreground. SMB is a bit harder (on the eyes) to use with the 3D on especially if its too high. You have to keep the console and your head still and not move too much or you will lose the effect. A lot of the time I am turning it off, but I make an effort to have it on. I don't understand it much because if you push the slider to the minimum 3D position then its not very 3D but everything looks as one image, if you put it up more you can sort of see two images but it looks more 3D. I know my right eye is a lot weaker than my left and doesn't get used as much so it may be my eyes.

I had a play when Nintendo visited our office with these to play with. The Augmented Reality was very good. But after playing a flying game for a few minutes I felt quite sick.

I shall hold off on the vote for now.

So you expect people to buy a 3DS and not use the 3D feature?

The stubborn ones on this site never fail to amuse me.

From your comment at the end of the second para it's clear you're an anti-Nintendo fanboy of some sort (Sony lover, presumably?)

Aaanyway, the 'unprecedented returns' BS started in a fantasy story in The Scum, which then got rehashed on other news channel - even, tragically, the BBC. The statements from Nintendo were in response to these stories - what are they meant to do, just let them circulate unchecked?

The second hand price drop in Japan is due to people buying multiple units to sell for profit. But Nintendo provided plenty of units so there was no shortage, so no profit for resellers, so they traded them back to shops and the price dropped.

Does the 3DS give some people headaches? Probably - but I suspect it's very few, and would probably be even less if people adjusted the 3D slider...

As with any product, best thing to do is try before you buy.

Cheers for posting that, makes for an interesting read. It does seem a little odd for Nintendo to be erring on the side of caution, but i suppose all videogames companies do these days - warnings about taking a break, wearing a strap with motion controllers etc.

If people think the 3D screen is the only update from the DS lite, then they should probably read more about it...
