Is it a special plug? What's up with a standard USB wall wart?

It is indeed proprietary, not USB. You can get USB cables with the 3ds connector however - I bought a cheap case and accessories bundle from Game and it came with the cable which I find easier - you can then connect to a TV, laptop or any other USB plug (or even a portable charger).

When I bought a 3DSXL for my son for Christmas, I had heard people banging on about the fact that it didn't come with a charger. On some level I assumed there would at least be a USB cable that you could charge from a USB port with. Nope! There's nothing in the box to charge your new 3DSXL with at all. You either need to have one of these lying around from an older DS model, or you buy one like this. It's a proprietary connection that goes into the DS, not a standard connection.

Always found the lack of a charger pretty daft as the 2DS comes with one and it's half the price...

I got mine for roughly same price in Sainsburys and paid for it mainly with my accumulated Nectar points. :D

massive heat! oh wait its always this price give or take. Still, funny to see people questioning the non inclusion of the adapter everytime these get posted.
