I don't really understand the whole amiibo thing - can anyone explain it to me?

Looks like i voted hot. Someone must have voted cold at same time or something.

It offsets hardware sales.

a tamagotchi that can be trained to fight
#7
They've been this price for weeks now?

They're basically tamagochis like others said. They can be used with other games but just to unlock an extra outfit/item nothing nearly as fancy.

Apparently only the game the amiibo was released for can read/write to the figurine, other games can only read data off it. This far smash is the only game with released amiibos i believe.

Only popular characters like Mario, Zelda and Pikachu will be re-stocked. Obscure Amiibo such as Villager and WFT won't be.
Got this for £5 using the mastercard offer.

They're kind of like DLC in figure form. Collectors will go for them no doubt.
With Smash you scan them on the gamepad and they are fighters you can edit, customise, team up with, level up etc. With MK you get Mii costumes, with Hyrule Warriors - scan Link and get a spinner weapon. Sound kinda pointless? I agree ;)

At this point in time they're not worth it imo. Maybe in the future that will change but...yeah.

Amiibo's aren't worth it for the game connectivity at the moment, but on the other hand is a good way to get a cheapish figure of a niche character.
#16
Fox and Peach are £10 each also...
#17
Once they apear for £2.99 in Home Bargains I might get some... The price makes it easy to resist for now ..

My boy loves to use it in Super Smash on Wii U, because his amiibo fights on his side, and after the game, passes to him his golden coins. Also, the amiibo level increases from initial 1 up to 50. He customised its look, it's like his fighting buddy :)
#19
This isn't a particularly hot deal. They've been this price on Tesco and Asda since the start.

Can't you use them for Mario Kart 8 as well? There's an amiibo icon at the bottom of the main menu in the game.

Old toy lines are not the same as these, can you get Skylanders or Disney infinity figures for £2.99 in Home Bargains?

I know what you posted originally, I doubt you will ever see these for £2.99 in Home Bargains same way that some Skylanders are pretty old and they aren't there. My point was just because some toys end up there not everything will.

The figures themselves look and feel cheap and nasty.

Yes! :D This is why I'm getting Samus and Villager, then later King Dedede. I still feel bad about it because that's £30 on bad figures.

No they don't. For a £10 figurine the quality and paint jobs are mostly outstanding and put the more expensive Skylanders and Infinity figures to shame.

I doubt you actually have any.

Nintendo have since confirmed they won't. Wii fit Trainer , Marth and Villager will be / have been, discontinued.

Only expect the very popular characters like Pikachu, Mario etc, to be restocked.

also Samus
