I was looking on movietyme's site for some blurays & noticed the nintendo ds lite's seemed cheap to me, There are 3 different colours available. These are US nintendo ds lite's which makes no difference as there region free & also supplied with a UK power adapter free of charge. Delivery is £4.99 for a royal mail special delivery.

They come in cobalt & black, crimson & black or metallic rose colours.

I've used movietyme twice myself for movies which i recieved quite quickly & well packaged.

I've added a direct link to the cobalt & black one but here's the links for the other 2 colours:

customs taxes tho :(

The item is listed as 'same day dispatch' [SSD] via royal mail special delivery so it must be somewhere in the UK otherwise i don't see how it could be dispatched using royal mail special delivery. Import tax limits were raised a little over a month ago to around £100 (up from around £18).

I have bought 2 blurays from movietyme with one arriving 2 days after i bought it & the other 5 days after i bought it, Off the top of my head i think they came from jersey. But if your not sure you could just send an email to them asking where there be sent from & wheather you'll have to pay import taxes [[email protected]]

Were import limits really raised to around £100?:)

on their FAQ

Q: Are shipments Liable To Import Tax & Duty?

A: Yes as a rule all items over £18 in value are liable for Customs Tax & Duty.
Customers of this site are responsible for paying local countries import taxes / duty and are none refundable by us.

not sure if the limit has been increased though

Import duties were raised but i'm not sure if that also includes taxes (it's hard to make sense of all of jargon on custom / goverment websites). Just send a message to movietyme if your not sure but considering it's being sent via royal mail special delivery i'd imagine it has to be somewhere inside the UK (Jersey probably).

Ive had parcels from the royal mail which required a customs payment. So the fact it comes from Royal mail does not mean that it will be duty free.

Ok below is a quote i've taken from HM revenue & customs website in there FAQ section

I have been charged VAT and duty for goods bought over the Internet, why is this?

All goods imported into the UK from countries outside the European Union are subject to import duty and VAT at the rates applicable. However, import VAT is not payable on commercial consignments if the total value of the goods in the consignment does not exceed £18. This limit is raised to £36 for personal gifts between private individuals. If this tax was not applied, there would clearly be an unfair advantage to foreign businesses over UK trade.

With effect from 1 December 2008, customs duty will not be applied on goods with a value less than £105.

Decided to take a punt. I was going to pay about £100 quid anyways from argos. Lets see what happens. Cheers for the posting.

I brought one of these a while ago, however I can't be certain how it was delivered.

It had a US return address, but was sent special delivery via royal mail, yet it took a few weeks.

I believe they ship to a UK address first, then out to your address from the UK. Last time I ordered they guaranteed no duty was payable. Having just checked my original order it was previously "Standard Europe Shipping" where its now Special Delivery so maybe its changed. Obviously they are US versions but with a UK power supply. We didn't have to pay any duty and got special blue version which isn't out in the UK. :)

Voted hot from me. I'm pretty certain that the SDD items from movietyme are already in stock at their UK warehouse (the SDD Blu Rays are), so no customs charges should be incurred.

EDIT: Yes they are

Just order it, even if you pay VAT its still a cheap price but chances are you won't, especially if it is getting dispatched via special delivery like it says.

Those US two-colour DS's have a slight tint to the touchscreen apparantly. Not much of a problem really but worth mentioning.
#19

I bought one of the crimson ones before Xhristmas. It was a very fast turnaround. It is US stock but it was delivered from the UK via Royal Mail Recorded Delivery. I believe that everything I have ever ordered from them has been sent from the UK. They have great customer services to boot.

#26

:?

If you end up paying VAT it will cost you £92 + £4.99 shipping = £96.99

Sorry, but that is not a cheap DS.....:whistling:

I've been buying from Movietyme for many years and have NEVER been stung for customs charges and have bought many items (usually PS3 and DS games) over the limit.. I'm sure they re-ship from within the UK.

Depends what you want. If you try getting this colour on ebay its £115+ so its still a good buy. However if your not fussed about special editions then yeah you could get a bog standard one. But chances are you won't pay VAT so it'll be a steal :)
