Anyone think age 4 is too young for a DSI XL? Contemplating getting my son one for his birthday but see they have a DSI 3D out early next year.

The DSiXL is essentially the final upgraded version of the original DS which is 6 year old technology now. The new 3DS is a brand new machine with a brand new processors and other new tech in it.

I would definitely wait for the 3DS which will most likely keep your son happy for the next 5-6 years, unlike the DSiXL which is already an outdated machine.

Our youngest son is almost 3 and plays the DS Lite (and has got quite good at it!). Personally I prefer these to the Vtech/Leapster games machines as a DS will (hopefully) last a few more years.

I bought my son a 2nd hand DS when he was about that age to see whether he would actually use it properly and look after it. I then bought him the DSi XL when it first came out, so you could do the same until the new 3D comes out.

Thanks for the info folks. I would quite happily wait for the 3D one to come out, only concern is the screen looks to be a bit smaller than DSI XL
