Today (05/03/10) is the official day of release for the Nintendo DSi XL in the UK. My local store (Beckton) had 4 left in stock, 2 Brown and 2 Wine Red at 10:00am this morning.

This should be a nationwide price from what I was told by the assistant. Can you get your local store to ring other Asda stores and then price match? I know my local store (Beckton) have definitely got these on sale at £135.
#7
Seems to be nationwide, i just picked one up in King's Hill, Kent.

Heat added.

As a general guide all those marked with the PEGI [Pan European Game Information] rating of "3(+)".

Click the link I have provided below to search all Nintendo DS titles in this category:

Nintendo DS PEGI 3+ (4+) titles

---
http://www.pegi.info/en/index/id/33/media/img/320.gif

PEGI 3
The content of games given this rating is considered suitable for all age groups. Some violence in a comical context (typically Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry cartoon-like forms of violence) is acceptable. The child should not be able to associate the character on the screen with real life characters, they should be totally fantasy. The game should not contain any sounds or pictures that are likely to scare or frighten young children. No bad language should be heard and there should be no scenes containing nudity nor any reference to sexual activity.
---

If you are looking for specific titles, perhaps you could advise whether your 5 year old is male or female so it is easier to make recommendations.

BFN,

fp.

PS. I will add "Heat" to this deal listing when the price is confirmed in more than one store.

I know some people wonder why a bigger screen is needed to the already existing DS (Lite/i) series but my advancing years (and already poor eyesight) means I struggle to see the current screens. I welcome the larger view of the game(s) I am playing.

Cheers for the reply fanpages.....

yep, should of said it's for my 5 year old daughter.

We've confirmed two stores thus far, Beckton in East London, albeit this has been confirmed by me, and King's Hill, Kent confirmed by west72.

Does anybody know if you can exchange the normal size DSi for the XL anywhere? Someone mentioned that game were doing it, and you just have to pay the difference.

I was in my local Game a couple of weeks back and their offer was: DSI XL £159.99, trade in your DSI for £80, and so get the DSI XL for another £79.99.

Poor offer, considering the DSI XL is available everywhere for under £160 (even game.co.uk).

Yeah, a poor offer indead! Not worth doing really. I haven't even seen the new XL version yet anyway. Are they bulky? Not sure if my soon-to-be 6yr old would be better off with what she's got.

DSi definitely for that age. The XL is a lot larger and is more heavy than the DSi or Lite.

What's the web browser like on these? Any improvements on previous models, and can you access Facebook properly without running out of memory?

Not when I started to type my reply :)

I've added "heat" now though.

Is your 5 year old a "girly girl" or does she like playing non-typical young female titles?

By that I mean does she like characters like Bratz, & Hannah Montana, or Hair/Fashion type of titles, & so on, or is she open to anything for her age range?

(PS. And before somebody says something; yes, kids of both genders can enjoy the Bratz & Hannah games).

BFN,

fp.

Animal Crossing - without a doubt -one of the best games you will ever buy for the ds.
Bought it on release for my daughter and she still plays with it now, I'll try and sneek a go on this too!

I saw this in Game the other day. I was looking as it's my son's birthday soon. I'm not sure it's the right size for him but will take him to have a look at it later and see what he thinks. May be too big though and would be better off with the normal DSi. It's a bit of a chuck and you couldn't get it into a pocket unless they're very BIG pockets!

I'll add heat for the price if it's confirmed as National.

EDIT: Just rand my local. It's £135 there. Heat added.

Proper "girly girly"..... wants to be a Princess when she grows up....bless her. She's into anything pink and shiny - handbags, hair pins, rings, necklaces.... the lot!

At the moment she loves playing some of the games on my iphone but recently shes accidentally managed to call phone numbers so I've had to reluctantly stop her playing games on the iphone. Thought a DS of her own would cheer her up and soften the blow

Newport?? Small world.. Which branch had them? I just called the new one in the centre and they have 4 'Burgandy' ones, but confirmed the £135 price.

This isn't my first choice of colour, so I am tempted to head out and have a look around at Spitty and Cwmbran.

is this the current top choice of DS please??

it is in wigan asda aswell, just been.:)

Found a Newport store with Brown ones, so decided to get one.. Since they have Firmware 1.4 I think it time to get one now, rather than later, just incase anything changes.

Not sure why I did.. I hardly use my DS but since I have "sausage fingers" I find the old one too small, so this should be idea.. But looking at it, its HUGE.. Much bigger than I expected, but I guess thats just because I am used to the old DS.. Since I have never had a DSi, I guess its not a bad time to buy one as now I get the extra functions of the 'i' too.

any good deals on the DS lite or DSi? This is hot but still over my budget. Was looking to buy an older model to save money but feels silly to pay £85 for the lite ...but thats the best i can find.
#32
typical, I preordered one for my girlfriend and is hasn't arrived yet. She just had to go out so if it does it will probably be with the post office for the weekend aghh!!!

Can see an Asda from here too lol

I noticed in 'The Mirror' today that Toys R Us are doing the DSi XL and two games (1 is Brain Training...not sure of the other) for £137.XX. Seems like a good deal too, if you don't already have the games.

I think you will find that this these are not part of a package.. The XL comes pre-installed with Brain Training and "Dictionary 6 in 1" so you don't get a choice..... Could this be the 2 games they are talking about?

The DSi XL comes preloaded with Dr Kawashima's: Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition, Dictionary 6 in 1.

http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=14518

Toysrus website states:

Nintendo DSi XL Wine Red 2 Game Pack - £149.99
Nintendo DSi XL Console in Wine Red - £137.89
http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Video-Games/Bundles-and-Consoles/Nintendo-DSi-XL-Wine-Red-2-Game-Pack%280078896%29

So I would assume jweaver is correct.
