this is a good deal, i have got mine nintendo dsi's for xmas cos thats all i could stretch to and they are preowned. this is a great deal for a new console and so what if its not the latest release! any child under the age of 10 would be happy with this and so they should if they are older. any child that isnt happy with this is spoilt and probably wouldnt get this anyway as their parents would have got them the latest nintendo wii u or an xbox one!

I hope your kids have a magical day.

Too many people think it's purely about cash and it's about being there as parents and doing the best you can at all times.

Your kids will be better people because of it x

Going on Iwoot's recent form you will likley receive a DS Lite. Great deal, great big pile of cack company.

surely second hand original 3ds models can't be much more than this? and they can play ds games. sorry, cold from me.

Thanks, ordered this on Saturday afternoon and chose next day delivery for £4. Arrived this morning. Already has a 3ds but never has it in that mode so didn't see the point in paying extra for a 3ds version as it's the big screen she's after.

The difference isn't just the 3DS mode, 3DS games can't be played on the Nintendo DSi, they're two different consoles, it's like trying to play a playstation one game on a playstation four, it won't work. There are still good games on the Nintendo DS though, they're just a few years old now :)

Depends what you want it for. DS games will play on 3ds but not full screen and the scaling will worsen the visuals.
#21
Is this new or second hand. Great price if it is new.
#22
Good price. It's also a penny cheaper on Zavvi at £59.98.

Although this is a decent purchase for the little ones just be aware that you won't be able to play 3DS games on this - So avoid buying any game with the 3DS logo on the case.
#23
Good value. Ok its not a 3ds but the dsi xl and precious has massive back catalogue. Grab a dstwo card if your as shifty as moi and have your mind blown. Heat for ninty
#24
Previous not precious. Iphone keyboard!
#25
Also have as opposed to has. Omfg
#26
Why would anyone buy this when you can get a perfectly good emulator for the ds.

Don't know how to quote lol but she will still have her 3ds to play 3ds games. If she didn't then I would have gone for a 3ds xl.

There's a "reply" button when you move the cursor to the top right of a comment.

To clarify the DSi XL will NOT play any 3DS games (they have "Nintendo 3DS" written vertically near the spine), irrespective of whether the 3D function in a game is turned on or off. The DSi XL will only play games designed for the DS. The 3DS is the next generation of console after the DS and despite the name is not just the same console with a 3D function; it has different hardware and is more powerful.

Apologies if this is patronising, it's just that judging by your first comment it appears you do not realise this and could have a disappointed daughter.

I'll make it even easier. DSi? Will play games based on 2003/2004 3d portable technology.

3DS will play games based on 2012 3d portable technology.

Yes. Nintendo names things poorly. But use some sense! A DSi will offer no upgrade to the original DS and DS lite in terms of the games it plays.

The 3DS does, because it's a next generation machine. New graphics chips. Far more ram. The DSi is a DS lite with a camera and better internet connectivity. Nothing else.

How many times do I need to post these things before people stop making dumb excuses and spend their money more wisely?

I suppose this is okay if you want a cheap way to play the DS back catalogue, or can't afford a 3DS/3DS XL.

But for £79.01 more you can get a 3DS XL + Mario 3D, and for £40 more you can get a 3DS... both of which will play DS *and* 3DS games and are suitably future proofed. Personally, don't see the point.

Cold.

also i'm abit confused why pircacy talk is not frowned upon here.... you wouldn't go in a deal regarding a bluray/dvd film and say "well you can just download a torrent so its free" so why would you condone the use of flash cards on a DS?
#32
I wish it was 3DS XL, still a good find at this price.
#33
I got a nearly new one for £40 with a few (very crap) games, they are a good bit of kit. Mainly I use mine for Pokemon games and other things that are against the rules to talk about here. I know they're very old but I wanted to try out a DS before going for a new 3DS next year when they come out, and I think I will.
#34
+1 for piracy. Avast!

The people who are voting cold because a 3DS can play DS games obviously haven't actually played a DS game on the 3DS. The quality isn't as good as playing on a DS console because the screen resolution is different on a 3DS. There is a workaround but then the game won't fill the screen.

Either way, the best way to play a DS game is on a DS console (preferably the XL), so if you're not interested in 3DS games then this is still worth buying.

Theres piracy and storage though the lines are blurred as in some people have flashcards as they want to store all games on 1 card as they know kids easily lose them, or to transfer saves between pc and console.

Different argument between that and a film rip as it requires more steps and specific hardware, plus the fact that to get a actual 1:1 blu ray rip you would say about 20-50 gig of file size for 1 film alone

Yes. Nintendo names things poorly. But use some sense! A DSi will offer no upgrade to the original DS and DS lite in terms of the games it plays.

Not technically true, the Dsi and XL cannot play Gameboy Advance games due to lack of slot for them, and theres differences in battery life, screen brightness and quality and also later games used the DSi's better wireless security features.

And Nintendo do not name things badly, DS means dual screen, the D just has double meaning in the 2/3DS as people would get confused with 3DDS.

Wow, clueless parents..

Yeah I would bet money on the fact their daughter is going to be VERY disappointed this Christmas and have an utterly useless console.

DS is pretty much a dead console now so barely any new games will be released for it, meaning any new games she does get will not even work on her christmas present, so yeah great job being ignorant and not listening to what people are telling you Julie.

no need for that whatsoever.

Newest doesn't always mean best and certainly not useless. I play on my DS lite all the time still.
