Strange comparison but I agree to some extent, both are overpriced novelties

Fair play, but the problem isn't really the price of the console itself (for me at least). It's the sky-high price of the very average looking games (Zelda aside), as well as the online subscription model that are the issues for me. Plus the very real possibility of only ONE triple-A game release this year.

the wii u is only 20 quid cheaper on the Nintendo website would you believe it. absolutely clueless. I think the switch will do better than the wii u but not by much.

Colder than a glass with an uncertain number of ice cubes.

It will be interesting what the eshop might be like ie switch exclusive digital content etc.

Depends on your definition of triple AAA and tbh Nintendo has never been that, if you rate its own IP as triple AAA there are a bunch year one.

Buy a Nintendo console if you want to play Nintendo games, buy something else if you want to the usual love me up of cross platform and general AAA games.

No deal because its rrp. A deal implies some kind of discount over rrp, which does not exist here.

Overpriced (as is the psvr), not a deal, last Nintendo console to be released as this will kill them off. It's not a tablet, it's not a console, it's great at nothing.

They should just release the catalogue on iOS, android and PS4 /XBone and make the money they've always dreamed of

HEAT applied. It is the nations most exciting and eagerly anticipated console for some time. It is the nations best selling console of 2017. It is deserving of a premium price. I'd pay £300 or £400 for it.

Why rush when you can buy one in 2019 for £99? I'm still waiting for the XB1 S to go below £150 this coming xmas before biting

Some big news came out recently.

The Switch is Plug and Play. So if your friend has Mario Kart and also has a Switch they can invite you to play it on your Switch and you don't need to actually own the game.

E.g. 1 friend buys Bomber Man. Invites his other 3 friends to play bomber man with him. None of them have to pay. If you've got any friends who like gaming this could make some of the games very cheap if the price is shared between people.

Yeah great plan to wait 3 years for a console

RRP is not a deal, sorry.

I'm not sure why didnt port a few games over from the wii u just so the launch line up is a bit better. Nintendo are targeting older generation gamers with this who remember the n64 days. I think they should of did same as wii £199 with a game and target everyone... People would of spent £400 in the end once you add 2 games, a few accessories so they mental if you ask me. I think they have a winner with families but they just gonna get core gamers and a total failure.

HAs that been confirmed?! I was actually thinking about this the other day. Didn't the DS range offer something similar? I think it was mostly Nintendo's titles that offered it - I seem to remember Mario Kart in the past.

There's been reports from germany that it offers 8 player local on one console, interesting to say the least.

3DS games are game specific as to if you are able to have a 2nd player for free. (or even more players with some games like MK7, Mario Party Island Tour). So you can play local multiplayer without the 2nd/3rd/4th/5th etc player having the cart with some games. This is via the download play, which creates some temporary files on your 3DS playing console to facilitate that. Was fairly quick to do this. There have been quite a few games, mainly third party games where you do need a 2nd cart to play the game 2 player.

Nintendo did a great thing with the recent release 3DS Mario Party Star Rush. You can actually get a permanent download for free if you don't have the cart, via the Eshop. You can't play it solo, but it means you can instantly load the game and play for free with someone else who has the cart. Very sensible, and I think we are going to see more of this in the future.

Any Nintendo 3DS game of distinction has generally had free local multiplayer download play.

The problem as I see and find it anyway with this is it is rarely any good to play with lots of players on 1 screen with the majority of games. I find even 2 player split screen less enjoyable and never keen on that. This is why for 4-8-12 players, most games are best when you have your own screen. I really think there is going to be good value for family entertainment in our house, to invest in 3-4 Switch consoles over time. Bit pricey and that won't all be at once for sure.

There are of course a few games here and there where playing on 1 screen has no compromise. Bomberman would traditionally be a great example of such a game.

Local Multiplayer is where the 3DS XL and its variants has been one of the best or arguably the best outright consoles.

This is also a key area of where the Wii U went wrong for me. Has never been about no. of software titles or anything like that. There were plenty good games, but I would have liked to have been able to have bought additional Wii U gamepad screen's at affordable price. It did not matter as the Wii U did not allow multiple gamepad screens to be linked to 1 console. That was a massive error. Am pleased to see the Switch has more flexibility on multiplayer.

Yeah, the DS and 3ds did the same thing. If you were close to each other you could play mutliplayer with only 1 cartridge.

8.30 Nintendo PR rep said that it would be "possible" and that "Nintendo really want to push esports", which would obviously be a pain if all 5 players had to buy the game compared to 1. Much easier to start a team up if you only need 1 game

There are plenty of people talking about it if you look in the right places.

Not only that but during the Bomber Man Treehouse stream the dev kept hinting at you being able to play with your friends even if they didn't own the game.

Obviously this will depend on the developer and the game. Some will encourage Download and share features and some won't.

It won't be on one console, no. It will be local co op if you have 8 switches, yes. The TV is not going to split into 8 sections at all. You've obviously gotten confused, it's 1 cartridge between 8 players, not 1 console.
