Went into my local argos today and this shocked me, wii console etc for £159.99 managers special! Shocking!

So, if anyone lives around the area might be worth checking out as its a great deal and they had a few!

This is really weird - it happened to the store in Durham over the summer and I was amazed! - but when I posted it no other stores seemed to do the offer :S

Strangely the Argos in Durham (when I went in today) had them on the shelf behind the counter and there seemed to be quite a few available.

anyone able to confirm apart from OP ?

I imagine Argos are like most stores and the manager is targetted on clearance stock holding and distressed stock holding.

seems unusual, but if a store had a lot of distressed (aka - 16 day money back) stock, the manager would discount it to come back in line with the targets. Not sure if the same applies to ARGOS as it did in my electrical retail store back in the day, but it might explain the individuality of the deal.

Im thinking its a desperate attempt to meet targets too - but hey, great for us!

Yes, I agree. Shonk needs to get with the Wii ‘fun’ element and not get too hung up ‘MAX POWER’ gaming. I find that Wii fans seem to generally be more pleasant and sociable people by far especially over hardcore PC gamers (don’t all shout at me at once people).

I agree but some of the games do look fun I think the controller is awesome however it seems more like a party type of console thats best played with friends/family around and as proven the real gamer amongst the crowd is scarce and few compared to the casual guy who just wants to have a blast at anything

Let them be happy with their wii as long as they dont take my ps3 or xbox360 away from me :)

Anyone seen this around london? Shame we cant reserve and collect at this price

Suppose if you reserve this and the instore price turns out to be £159 then they have to honour that.

I think you've got it backwards - a "real gamer" owns all the consoles, and will have a "blast at anything", thats what makes them a gamer - playing GAMES.

The casual gamer is the one with one or two consoles, playing a limited selection of genres (used to be sports and driving games, with the odd film tie in. now it seems to be fps/third person shooter/adventures and driving games, with the odd film tie-in).

I'll continue to play any game that looks fun on any platform, I'll leave the casual gaming for the people who don't like much variety... ;~~

Ahh the joys of the mis-described Argos Manager Special!
Items that end up as "Manager's Specials" are where a customer has returned the item either because it is faulty or claims it is faulty in order to get a refund after the 30 day period or because the item is exempt from it. These units are sent to a company Argos use who check them over for faults and condition and replace any missing parts etc. They are then sent back out to selected Argos branches as Managers Specials. In other words they are what the rest of the trade call 'refurbished'. Nothing wrong with that but if the customer is to make an informed decision as to what they are getting then Argos should be more honest instead of trying to pretend they've decided to be such nice guys in knocking a load of the price of a brand new item! Having said that, I've bought 4 Manager special iPod's in the past over a period of time that, although the previous owner had used them enough before returning them to Argos to make the play button shiny with wear, but all worked perfectly and I was happy with the saving over a eBay 2nd hand iPod! I just wish Argos with be more honest about exactly what you are buying.

As I said near the start, the Durham City Store had this offer over last summer and it was definitely for new wii's and they had 5ish on display not just one or two. They were priced at £159.99 (as Manager's Special) and if I knew there was going to be another shortage over xmas I would have snapped them up.

I did post the offer up on here so long ago as well!
