When we went into the store there was a sign at the collection points saying only 1 Wii per customer and this is when we were told about the availability online being dispayed as out of stock :santa:
#5
So basically they want people to come into the shop to check availability? So I'll drive to all the Argos shops in North London to check.. yea right!! ... what rubbish!

I got 4 from argos two weeks ago, 1 from ilkeston, 3 from derby, they did not stop me picking the 3 up together.

Booked all 4 online. Lady at ilkeston said they had 7 arrive but they were all reserved within about 10 minutes.

Guess I hit it right with the derby branch.

I have kept trying since but have not been so lucky.

Maby you should find out the facts before you accuse people.

I bought 4 for family members and friends who I knew wanted them as I know they had not got them and like everyone else was struggling.

So in future either find out the truth or keep you bloody mouth shut.

The thing is, people aren't charging £300. That is only a figure that people are willing to pay. Everything has it's price and something is worth only what someone else is willing to pay for it.
Why feel sorry for the parents anyway? They've had the whole year to buy one and, as usual, leave it until the last minute.
FYI, I've sold 5 in the past two weeks and do I feel guilty? No. This year Christmas is costing me next to nothing thanks to those parents making false promises to their kids and, for many, the only way of getting a Wii is paying over the odds.
#15
I have noticed most are putting theirs on at 99p so I guess it's only the people who are desperate who are dragging the prices up (and incidentally, that would be the people who haven't the patience to seek one out like the people on here are).

You obviously don't have kids. Do you think they tell you what they want for xmas a year in advance and stick to it? You obviously have a bad memory and can't remember being one. You have to remember people are on different wages, have more than one child etc. I'm sorry you should feel guilty coz people can't get there hands on them for their kids at xmas and it's coz of people like you who have lots of time on there hands or even do this for a living!! Us genuine parents can't get are hands on them are spending all are spare time trying to get one instead of spending it time with their kids!! What about santa and christmas spirit!! :santa:

I feel for those parents trying to get one. My kids are too young yet to really ask for things, but will face this eventually. I remember years ago my mum/dad hunting everywhere for Turtles figures for my younger brother.....nightmare !!

I agree with you dont leave things to last minute but since Wii has come out there has always been a shortage so its not like they could of easily brought one even when it first come out plus a lot of people cannot financially buy one as and when and have to save for one then buy when they have got all the money.
I am lucky that financially i am secure and i purchased our Wii (which we all love) 3 / 4 months ago but i dont think you should label everyone the same. We all have different circumstances. :)

The issue here is parents not being able to set expectations!

There's also too much pressure from advertisers on our kids from the companies that are trying to sell their products but then many parents let their kids watch TV far too much because its the easy thing to do!

The wii problem seems artificially set in the UK though...for what reason I dont know and dont see what anyone has to gain. Why have The Germans got Wii mountains it seems, yet the UK has none ?

Why wont they ship to the UK when they still make the same profit ??

What's going on ?? Who is doing this ??

Are unsold products still the property of Nintendo ?? and amazon only pay Nintendo on sale ??
If so, why are Nintendo (a family oriented company they say) not redistributing stock to stop the ebay nonsense ??

Playing devils advocate (not necessarily disagreeing with you - I just think this is an interesting discussion - sorry OP!).

Even at standard RRP the Wii is an expensive Xmas toy. Generous a gift as it is it's not what I used to receive when I was young. For my family Christmas was more about spending time with family and rarely seen relatives. For others who are religiously inclined, it's a celebration of the the birth of Jesus.

The problem with the Wii is as stated before, the prices are high by the demand, it's people willing to pay the high prices who are making them high. You could say the same for ticket touts - if people refused to pay anything other than the face value then they'd be out of business immediately. So who is the worse enemy here...?

On the flip side, it could be considered entreprenerial. I don't go into Tesco's and hassel them for selling food at a higher price than they get it from their suppliers for. Based on the attitudes I have seen displayed to others on this site I perhaps should, it's food! How bad is that that? They are adding cost to something I need to consume in order to survive! Obviously they are a business and there are other factors involved but really it's the same as the sellers of Wii's - they source them, then sell them.

In my opinion no single person is to blame for the cost of Wii's - no one has the monopoly on the sale of the ones in circulation.

Just a little 'food' for thought. :)

question is how many wii's are sat waiting around for 2 weeks before xmas it hit ebay :)

maybe they are so many this is what might flood the market :)

just like the ps3 - and leaving the ebay sellers short changed ( can only dream ) :P

I really dont see the need for people who are making a killing on ebay to come onto these forums, where are others are desperate to find one Wii, and boast about the profits they are making. I make no moral judgements on their activities because what they do is up to them, but I do question the reasons that bring them here to brag about their "good fortune".

I live in Derby and have just been to ASDA, TOYS'R'US, MORRISSONS, PC WORLD & CURRYS and have come home empty handed.

The only place that had them was TOYS'R'US and the cheapest price they were doing it was £250 (as part of a bundle).

The guy in there said that they had 60 but there was loads of people queueing up so the chances of getting one was slim.

I'm not bothering with the high street now as there appears to be as much chance getting one online.

Luckily our 10 year old is not a spoilt brat and says he'd be just as happy with a Nintendo DS (which appear to be much easier to get hold of, and are cheaper!) so we will probably get one of them now.

PS: well done to the other chap from Derby who got 4 Wii's a few weeks ago!

For me it's the guilt of not getting my daughter what she's be asking for without changing her mind for ages. She wants

Wii - can't get one without being ripped off.

Pixiel Chicks - in my mind a load of rubbish and since she has NDS I don't see any reason to spend money on this for her first choice is a wii and that would be a far better product.

Doodle Bear - really at the age of 8 she is too old for one of these.

So what I'm going to have to do now is come up with something else and then try to put it in her mind like it's her idea that she really wants one.

Oh well - let the mind games commence.

I'll give you £179.99 for one since thats how much they should cost.

I haven't got kids, so I'm not gonna pretend to understand the pressure etc that comes with Xmas presents.

Surely they can be reasoned with and told what the situation is with Wii's and they you can get one after Xmas etc after all this utter madness calms down.

People should really take a firm stance of not buying any off Ebay. That way the sellers end up with consoles, in most cases of extreme quantity, that no one wants to purchase, forcing them to reduce the ridiculous prices they are demanding for them.

That's how much they should cost if there is unlimited supply.

But there is limited supply, so the cost goes up to what people are willing to pay. If you are willing to pay less than others, then you are not going to get one before christmas.

I don't think anyone can really moan too much about the people who are trying to make some cash out of buying and selling Wii's as it is common nature for everyone.

All you have to do is look at the programs on TV nowadays such as Property development shows, cash in the attic, flog it etc etc.

People will always try to buy something cheaply and then sell it on at a higher price. Its having a good business sense.

Eve the shops nowadays are selling Wii's as packages to make extra cash so why shouldn't people who had the foresight to buy some months ago knowing what the rush was going to be like in the run up to Christmas.

I do though think that coming on places such as here and boasting about the profits they are making is a bit OTT.

Many sellers on eBay are starting wiis at 99p or £1, simply because they know they will sell well, so why pay high listing fees. They are not demanding high prices, the people bidding are willing to offer high prices. There is a big difference.

So you have picked out 1 listing that finished high i have just looked and they are averaging the £240 mark less fees of course and there are 5000 listed. And who is to say that these are genuine bids they may be shilled up and then the seller is sending second chance offers out to all the other bidders.

The average is about £265 I'm afraid as well but the second part of what you say DOES make sense...
