It's absolutely ridiculous that this is necessary, it's been out for, what, 6 or 7 months now? Why are they not on shelves? I just want to walk into Virgin (to get a 10% discount  ) and pick up a console. Do Nintendo not want my money?
#31
It's a marketing tactic.. the harder something is to get the more people want it. Seems to work too, I bought 4!

Argos don't have control over Nintendo's production levels.

Ive got wii, PS3 and XBOX 360.

Unfortunatley after a couple of weeks mucking around with the wii, its now gathering dust, and only occasionally use the PS3 for Blue-ray playback, and the occasional blast of motorstorm.

Ive had the XBOX 360 since 2005 and its by far the best console at the moment.

If your undecided on which console to get then id recommend the 360.

I love nintendo though, and trust they will bring out some decent party games sometime soon!

Dont expect cutting edge graphics or sound though! its all about fun with the wii :)

Don't want to take this thread off topic, but I agree with most of what you're saying.

The strengths of the Wii are definitely in the multiplayer games, but playing with people around you not playing against people online. Half of the fun of playing Wii games is seeing your friends and family acting like fools playing Wario Ware or Rayman, and I'm sure Mario Party will be the same.

The XBox 360 is different - it is not fun to watch someone playing an XBox 360, seeing them bash buttons to shoot things or drive a car around a track. It's fun to play those games when you're on your own, but if you've got friends round then getting all of you playing Wii Sports or Rayman or Wario Ware is a better deal.

As for the graphics, they're nowhere near as polished as the XBox 360, but the Wii's games are so immersive that you don't really pay attention to it. On the XBox 360, the technically advanced graphics are partly what make it cool to play. Gameplay is always more important than pretty graphics though, and Nintendo are the masters at coming up with innovative games (Tetris, Pokemon, Mario Kart, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, Trauma Centre, Wii Sports, Wii Music, etc...) :)

Nintendo have said that the UK and most other countries could be short of Wii's until 2008-9 because there is such a demand for them.

Thankfully my boy got one a few months ago out of pure luck, and i'm never off the thing ;], though i still love my Xbox 360, one of my best purchases out of my student loan, haha :P

I got a package through GAME in Feb, and I use mine all of the time - and it's the first console my wife has ever shown any interest in.

If I wanted to play games like I can get on the XBox or the PS3, I'd go upstairs and use my PC - and I do - which has better just about everything except the blu-ray or HD drive because I built it to be my gaming rig last October. Online play? Check. Fabulous grapphics? Check. Exclusive titles? Check. Powerful processor? Check.

Indeed. I have a pc and if i want to play any game on my own then this is where the pc shines especially in the MMORPG industry.

I am very tempted to buy the Wii as come saturday and i flick through whats on tv at my mrs house and the usual "Grease" crap on ITV and all this reality programmes everywhere leaves me thinking is this the best that terrestial tv has to offer joe public?

Anyway off to see if any Wii are in Bury area. Fingers crossed :)

Some swines are making reservations and then putting the reservation numbers up for sale on ebay (often on an auction of >2 days, which is mental as the reservation ends at the close of the next working day). If you want a Wii then try revisiting the Argos website (after 5:30pm? or 6pm?) and it may show up as in stock as the reservations will have lapsed.

Only if you're from the future, it didn't come out in the EU until December 8th. :)

I had one at launch and then sold it a few months later, it got old pretty quickly.
