What happens regarding shipping costs and exchange rate ?
#3
Hi, first post...

does anyone know if its good to plug straight in to UK power supply, or are any special adapters needed?
thanks
#4
If its like the one I ordered from them before Christmas (turned up just after unfortunately) it has English instructions okay and the total on my credit card bill including postage was 178.80. You do need to get a continental to UK adapter though.

Shipping is EUR 7.05, so the total is EUR 252,91 (approx £169.27 according to x-rates.com)

Is there VAT to be paid on this?

No, as its being shipped from an EU country.

I bought one before Xmas - some feedback:

1. it came within 2 days

2. it came with a German plug - you can use a shaver adaptor to make it work in the UK or simply change the switch like I did

3. it came with German instructions for Wii Sports, but you can find these on the web easily

4. there is no VAT to pay (Germany is in the EU!)

5. even after the delivery charge, you get this for £10 less than the UK shop price.

cheers

Just to add: Mine took a week (but that did include christmas in the middle!), you don't really need instructions for wii sports, the german equivalent of vat is included, unfortunately you may, like me, only get it for about 20p less than the shop price in this country but you will at least get it!

Is there any MAJOR disadvantages to buying it off there?

not for us. The only disadvantage at the time was that after ordering it we might have found somewhere in the UK that would deliver before christmas but always just missed the boat on those.

Once its installed besides the plug you would not be able to tell it from a UK one.

Buy it!

Easy enough decision ;-)

It's completely different to anything else, keep your xbox wired up. I've still gone back to my PS2 for pro evo but this is a great novelty that'll never wear off!
#16
hey guys just ordered one and it come to 252.91 but delivery was only 6.00 euros.

Is that right?:)
#17
wounder why this is soo cold :|

nice find !! there doesnt seem to be many shops that have them in stock !
#18
Worth doing. I convinced someone to do this before christmas. It arrived in two days, they had no problems. It's almost exactly the same as the UK model except a few instructions in extra languages and the slightly wrong power plug...

pedg
You do need to get a continental to UK adapter though.

Couple of quid, it's the same voltage so no big deal.

I think amazon will actually charge you UK VAT 17.5% when you order instead of german VAT 16%. I lived in germany for a while and ordered from amazon UK and they charged me the lower rate, which cancelled out the extra shipping!

edit: presumably VAT is included in the quoted price... definitely nothing extra like VAT or customs to pay when it arrives

Wonder if the warranty will be valid over here

Agree with that, completely different from normal consoles, my whole family had a great laugh with it over xmas (even my nan...).
Thought the novelty would wear off but it's still going strong here!
Buy one! You won't be dissapointed!

PROBABLY but give nintendo UK a call first if you're worried. Worst case you might have to pay postage back to Germany, but I expect that's not even needed.

Germany just changed their equivilant of VAT to 19% about 2 weeks ago.

I've just ordered one too! Can't wait.

For those who cannot grasp the german language (I'm presuming there's no translate to english on the german site? I hope not after having to do the below!) you can use the english version as a guide. I ran the uk amazon alongside the german one and it's exactly the same layout so it sort of translates itself.

Should be here for the 12th. Oooh, it's looking a good weekend already!

Good spot!

Profit then :)

It's certainly a more straightforward way of getting this than importing from the US. 1. It's the same region code and 2. no customs hassle.

But I'm waiting for the Wii Color, as it should play DVDs and then I can get it in black.

MUCH better than getting from the US unless you want to get all cheap(er) US games and put up with all the other hassles.

Wait if you're not in a hurry and I guess they'll eventually release it in different colours, or at the very least cheaper and readily available in this country, but I've not heard anything confirmed about DVD playing in Europe. Maybe I've just not been keeping up with the news well enough. DVD playing should be technically possible with a virtual console download (probably not free so it covers their DVD license fee).

How does the wii look and play on a 20" lcd?

Depends on your TV. Probably fine. Much better if you get RGB SCART cable or (if your TV supports it, and DEFINITELY if your TV is HD or can do 480p) component cable, but fine with what comes in the box.
#29
Is it harder to aim or anything?
#30
Aiming is entirely done with the sensor bar, not your TV, so it doesn't matter on size or whether it's LCD or anything. Any size TV, you move the remote in the exact same way. There's only a slight problem if you have a huge (like 100" projection) screen and then you have to aim much too far up or down, but if you just watch the cursor instead of using it like a gun it's still fine. The wii is great and amazon.de seems a fine way to get one.
#31
I dont like the fact that i will have 2 consoles then and spend more time on my wii than my 360 because my 360 is great and i play with friends on it.
#32
I think you guys are just better off waiting for the UK Wii...

Personally, forget about the Wii for the time being and you will somewhat find some stock appearing in random places (a friend of mine actually picked one up recently)
#33
Great post... cheap white wine means i had to buy one :) all the guys at work have one so feel i'm missing out :( but no more :) my girlfriend will think i'm barking mad but from what i've heard these things are much more girly friendly what with the potential for excercise whilst playing ...hehe
#34
great post- can't wait for it to be delivered now. Even better that it was £10 cheaper. I ordered an xbox360 for my boyfriend from germany when they were just released and everything was fine then so hopefully that won't put anyone off.

I was reading somewhere that Nintendo says that while it doesn't require a hardware upgrade, reading DVDs won't be something you can just upgrade to. Beats me why. It's expected to be a feature when they bring out the color ones - hence my desire to wait.

The US was on my mind as I'll be in the US next month, and had looked into what exactly would be the pro/con of importing a Wii or PS3 (seeing as they are in Wal-Mart/Best Buy over there). Having considered, I think I'll wait and continue gaming on my PC - and it's too much a fiscal risk to import and sell a PS3 next month ;-)

are saying they have it for £149 and its in stock. think you'll nee to call them to see for certain though?
#37
I got one of these from Amazon.de the week before Christmas.

Like others I can say:

Delivery was very quick (ordered Tues morning - arrived by Fri morning)
Wii itself comes with English instructions
Wii Sports packaging in German - game plays in English with on screen instructions
Plug adaptors are around a pound
I had very sore arms after playing for 4 hours straight the first day

I believe the warranty is international with Nintendo.
#38
I'm new to the forum so hi everybody!

I've just ordered one of these on 11th @ 5:37am, says I should get it on the 12th?!

Anytime in the next week is fine by me! I'll let you know how I get on. Voted Hot!
