No price drop, just a store special.

Other retailers will want to keep the price as high for as long as possible.

I just bought a Wii as well today about 2 1/2 hours ago online from another retailer.
I got mine for £172.98 with next day delivery.

I always seem to miss the good deals.

well £172.98 isn't too bad since this offer is only available instore and there is no guarantee it will would have been available at your local argos, just one of those things

I'll probably waste a good £10 on fuel and parking going to fetch one, might as well let them deliver it to me at home while I check out HUKD for other bargains and relax.

This has happened before in other argos, I beleive that when they have to many in stock or something they release a few at cheap prices
#12
i wouldnt trust argos stuff, its not up to much. always had trouble with them and their products. sometimes its worth paying the extra to know that you have got a good quality item and good after service. is worth more than £20 discount.

nope head of ninty said the other day he has no plans to drop the price of the wii or ds within this year

Cant blame then the way its been selling

These came without boxes when we first did them, they were just in a black bag and were mostly sold from our distribution centers around the country to drivers and staff until they started sending them to stores as "managers specials". I will ask and find out why exactly they are at this price as stock is still an issue with these, soon as we get them in at 179.99 they are reserved and/or sold within a few hours.

Agree some stuff from Argos is borderline quality, but it's cheap and will do the job required for a fair time - if not just take it back. I've never had any trouble returning stuff to Argos, in fact I think they're very good at returns.
I don't think Argos make their own Wii's, so you should be okay buying one from them. Same quality whatever retailer is chosen :-D.

I think you will find that the wii is the same quality at argos as buying from any where else. :whistling:

+ Argos after sales is way better than most places, they very rarely deny a refund or replacement, and I would choose to buy electricals from them over dixons group any day.

As long as you don't mind queuing for 45 mins at the customer service desk which is usually un-manned and 6 deep with complainants. Thank god for fastpay machines otherwise it's a half day job buying something from them with people leafing through the catalogue at the checkout because they aren't clever enough to write down a 7 digit number. I love Argos, can you tell?

Yep I hate that too - my store is a different format to most though, our customer services isnt seperate, it goes through the main tills, which are always manned by at least 2 members of staff, so it isnt so bad, if there are a more than 3 people waiting we always have an extra member of staff from collection to open another till, and that format is going good so far, we are only a small store though.

Maybe people are talking about the way they handle their products. I ordered an Xbox 360 from Argos a few years ago and it turned up in just the Microsoft box, a bit battered and slightly soggy.

The manager at Nottingham looked at me as though I was mad when I spoke to him regarding this - I mentioned this site, and he looked it up infront of me. Called his head office to confirm the offer then told me that he didn't have any spare at that price ... BAH !
#24
Tempting to stock up for Xmas. :-D
#25
Thanks for the heads up OP. Picked one up from the Bromley Superstore, they had 22 left on the (blue) stock count at 17:30 and on the quick pay system only 10. Not sure where 12 went between my checking and paying!

Anyways, the stock is new stock - box was sealed. Asked the CS they said they might have been ex-disp. But to have 22 as ex-disp can't really be possible? More likely Nintendo has put out new packaging perhaps? Box does carry a 2007 copyright mark.

my 2p's worth anyway....

The stretford store has had managers specials on Nintendo DS a couple of weeks ago, £59.99 - £79.99, I think im right in saying they come in damaged boxes, but with everything in them but are exempt from the 30 day money back guarantee, so good deal as nothing should go wrong with them, but if you are unlucky to get a bad one...
#32
But they are still covered by warranty, and you can still return if faulty. Also, games consoles are exempt from the 30 day guarantee anyway AFAIK.
#33
Huntingdon store in Cambs denied all knowledge of this this morning - sadly

If anyone's interested, the product number is 593/4511
