sorted byThis is coming from somebody who bought a Sega Dreamcast and an Atari Jaguar.
I bought my Wii U as part of the Tesco Mario Kart bundle when Nintendo were offering a free game. Seemed like a good deal at the time, and there have been a few games that I have cherished since. Unfortunately however, my Wii U is my least played console at only 67 hours.
if you want high quality first party titles from the nintendo catalogue, then you'll have heaps of fun.
under powered is typically irrelevant. are the games fun? that's all that matters.
have to ask, if you don't like it why have you collected every game? seems like a waste of cash to me.
interesting to see if prices drop much, given rumours of depleting stock are doing the rounds.
Crazy indeed. It's why I don't have one.
I suggest getting Xenoblade Chronicles X to more than double that.
Its a 2d old school cross betwixt sonic and rocket knight that treasure would be proud of, spread the word its an old game that clearly hasnt had the recognition it deserved and theres a sequel on the way
assuming it's a genuine question I'll contribute some
super Mario 3d world
xenoblade chronicles x
wonderful 101
affordable space adventures
pikmin 3
Mario kart 8
splatoon
rayman legends (former exclusive but universally acknowledged as the best version)
smash bros
Mario maker
bayonetta 2
Lego city undercover
dkc tropical freeze
windwaker hd
fast racing neo
the upcoming Tokyo mirage sessions looks very interesting too
Well, according to MadonnaProject those games are mediocre at best. I'm not quite sure what he looks for in a videogame but I don't think he's ever going to find it!
Argue what? Were they particularly cheap when they launched? Or are you saying that people are still playing them? I haven't played either so not sure what you mean.
Are you saying here that you are surprised that there are limited supplies of limited editions of games?
The Wii U was around £300 at launch & it's dropped to around £200 bundled with 2 games. I think the low number of Wii U consoles sold has worked against the price dropping. I don't follow the prices of PS4 or Xbox consoles but I'm assuming that they are currently around £200 with a couple of games? Plus whatever the subscription costs are currently for online services. I'm sure you think that that's better value but put simply I would rather buy a Wii U for £200 & have games I want to play than spend whatever the price currently is for a PS4 or Xbox & have a hitech VHS player. If you want to compare the price of consoles based purely on the current cost of the parts it takes to build them that's up to you but I think we disagree on the fundamental value of the different systems.
People are buying them just not the same number of people who are buying PS4s. People look for different things depending on their circumstances & what they want from a console (obviously) - the fact that around 12 million people see the value in the Wii U despite it having less advanced graphics & not being able to play Bluray discs seems to be a point you are missing.
I agree that Nintendo probably limit the amount of copies of games to whatever they expect to sell - & given the Wii U has a limited install base then why would they print 1000s of copies which would potentially remain unsold - just to drive the price down? I would say the fact that people are willing to pay what you see as high prices is evidence that their games are worth paying for.
You obviously see the success of Transformers & sh*te like Britain's Got Talent & think that - based on popularity alone - they are the best of their respective fields? Nintendo make Nintendo games - I like the games they make whereas I can't say the same about generic games on other systems. The fact Playstation are more successful than Nintendo in advertising to teenage boys about the need to play their games doesn't in itself make their systems better as it's just a matter of taste.
Ha ha yeah, I assume that you enjoyed playing the Wii U tho? Asda obviously don't sell games based on how good they are tho. I bought my Wii U 2 years ago & it's been great. It's different to the PS4 & Xbox but that's why it's good & worth the money - variety is the spice of life & all that!
You're referring to a back-catalogue whilst the PS4/XB1 both have far brighter futures...
Personally, I think the Dreamcast is over-rated. It had some great games - Ikaruga, Rez, Space Channel 5, Rayman 2 - but not nearly enough to justify its legendary status over a decade on.
For me, the order of consoles is as follows:
PS4
DC
Wii U

Each to their own I guess but I genuinely believe that you would struggle to find many Wii U owners or even the gaming press that would agree with your view that most Wii U games are mediocre at best.
There are numerous Wii U exclusives that are widely regarded as excellent by both Wii U owners and gaming press the world over.
Yes it has relatively few games but I have more games to choose from than I'll ever have time to actually play. And yet I'll still probably miss adding more unplayed games to the collection, strange eh?
All the "classic" Wii U games are also ridiculously expensive - with Mario 3D World and the two Zelda games rarely dropping below £30. That's £90 (minimum), and for the same price-bracket, there are so many other games that are worthy of one's attention. And that's not due to the games being "better", but because Nintendo have a habit of constricting supply, thereby keeping the prices artificially high.
Subjectively speaking... of course.
Edit: I forgot the 'Selects' range at £15-20... But that doesn't include Mario 3D World. So in a way, my point still stands.

The Wii U is like the Millenium Falcon. It is not without its flaws but has aged well, and still remains the coolest, most fun spaceship in all the Galaxy and its the one we all really want to play with.
Get the Nintendo humble bundle now
As u say, each to their own. Very surprised that you believe all games on Wii U mediocre at best.
I have absolutely no doubt that the PS4 has many games I'd like and I see no need to say otherwise on a PS4 deal. Yet, strangely people feel the need to comment on Wii U deals just to criticise. As you say, each to their own!
I am glad some people understand Nintendo and what their consoles about. The family friendly, most entertaining, variety based console on the market. The HEAT of these Wii U deal posts after all these years reflects that. I am sure you will enjoy playing the best console on the planet when the day comes. Until then, just keep look forward to it as it will not disappoint.
I certainly dont agree as I said quality over quantity I have no interest at all in ps4 and slightly more in xbox one but thats only because it has 2 titles that interest me as opposed to 1 thats not out yet, although 1 of those titles is a compilation of n64 games.
My order would be
Gamecube
Dreamcast
Neo geo pocket or ps1 if we are not counting handhelds.
Same... Although I think I might wait a few years so that the games increase in value.
Total rubbish. Who cares if the console is on the way out now? It's had 4 years of great releases to keep everyone entertained - and they are now affordable, unlike PS4 titles which cost a small fortune.
Super Mario 3D World
Zelda remakes x2
Hyrule Warriors
Pokken Tournament
Toads Treasure Tracker
Super Mario Bros + Luigi Bros
ZombiU
Watch Dogs
Rayman Legends
Pikmin 3
Need for Speed
Mario Maker
Splatoon
Child of Light
Darksiders II
Toki Tori 1 and 2
FreezeMe
Call of Duty
Donkey Kong
Citizens of Earth
Mario Kart 8
Wonderful 101
Lego City
Mario Colour Splash
Monster Hunter
Sonic Racing
And not to mention a back catalogue of over 1770 Wii games, Virtual Console games from DS, N64, GameBoy, GameBoy Colour, GameBoy Advanced, NeoGeo etc. and the Wii U eShop which has some amazing affordable titles. There is also Amiibo support, Off-screen TV play, two player dual screen play, Miiverse, My Nintendo and 3DS integration.
The list of reasons to own a Wii U goes on and on and on.

Do you want to argue that in the face of The Witcher 3 or Fallout 4?
Does no-one remember the rate at which the Special Edition versions of recent Nintendo games sold out recently? Or maybe their Wii U is so great that 4 years on, it's still worth £200 - nearly the same price as PS4 and XBone, both machines which leap-frog it technically and are more in demand and have more games for them.
If Nintendo games were so "great", how come "no-one" is buying them? How come their machines aren't flying off the shelves?
As has been mentioned earlier, Nintendo manufacture units according to demand. Which is why prices for Wonderful 101 were ridiculously high before the company did another print run. It's why Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was also so expensive, along with Lego City Undercover, Need For Speed... It's why the Wii U is STILL £200!
The idea that Nintendo make the "best" games is a out-dated myth that's often perpetuated by those who like to portray themselves as being connoisseurs of good taste, even if they are just deluded fan-boys.
Obviously the market doesn't agree with the idea that Nintendo makes the "best" games, otherwise their games and hardware would be selling out and in demand. And they're obviously not.
There's a reason why Asda stopped stocking Wii U's in 2013. The Wii U is nothing more than an over-priced antique. And I own the thing!
EDIT: here are a few "supply and demand" threads:

So there you go. "When games are in short supply customers are more interested in getting a game than a particular price".
It's all just a ruse so that people sign up to Nintendo's little "exclusivity club".

Absolutely... The Wii U does admittedly have some great games for it. Bayo2 and Mario Kart 8 in themselves are (nearly) worth the admission price. But all this "Nintendo make the best games" rhetoric just gets really boring after a while. It's one thing to have opinions, but when one's argument so flagrantly dismisses reality, that's when certain things need to be said. Especially when the accepted rhetoric among Nintendo fans plays down the achievements and hard-work of all the developers who obviously don't work at Nintendo - as if their output is second class in comparison, when it's obviously not.
I can't think of a recent occasion when Nintendo actually won a "Game Of The Year" award. They didn't win it last year (Bloodborne), and they're certainly not going to win it this year. Maybe next? Maybe...
And as for the media... they're biased. Just look at that chap from Eurogamer who gushed about the Gamepad, only for his more sensible industry peers to turn around and say that the Gamepad was a terrible idea - demonstrated by how badly it's been implemented (like Arthur Gies and Jim Sterling).
I think they were talking about the 'I know what I'm talking about' line. I own a lot of shoes but I don't think that makes me an expert!

I am looking for a wii u as think it will be perfect console for me to play with the kids, and I would almost certainly like the mario games. We have a 3ds and I just think nintendo offers something a bit different to ps/xbox...will probably wait till nearer end of the year though, hopefully it will go down a bit.
The wiiu is a far better investment then either of those two, it has excellent games, quality over quantity is what you get, splatoon, mario kart 8, xenoblade x, the wonderful 101, bayonetta 2, wooly world, lego city undercover, 2 zeldas if you've not played them before, smash bros, pokken, zombieu, pikmin 3, captain toad, starfox, mario platformers if you like that sort of thing.
I've got loads of unplayed games on it as I am endlessly just playing splatoon, mk8 and xeno, they are that good, enjoy some splatoon while you still can its the best online shooter.
Also dreamcast is still a better console then ps4 and xbox one, if I didnt still have one and was given the choice of 1 of the 3 I'd pick dreamcast.
I didn't like the Gamecube... Seemed like too much of a drop-off in terms of quality and quantity to what I expected from Nintendo. And because by that time, I was sensing that the winds were beginning to turn in earnest against Nintendo. For me, their SNES machine is my all time favourite console. After that, it gets hazy... Maybe the Amiga 500, maybe the N64, maybe the XBox 360.
As for PS4... I'm definitely happy with my machine. Just next month, the console is getting Uncharted 4 and Doom. With Mirrors Edge to follow in June. Right now, I would say that my PS4 is definitely my favourite console of this generation.
(edited)
NX will arrive March next year so a good 10 months letf.
Can recommend not picking up Mirrors Edge and Doom
Interested to hear all the games you place on that list?
There are bound to be some decent price drops on this console though later on in the year.
