Released in September 1991, Nirvana's sophomore album and major label debut elevated Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl from a critically acclaimed Aberdeen, Washington, cult band to generational spokesmen who'd unwittingly created a cultural shift and musical touchstone. Rising to No. 1 the world over and ultimately selling over 30 million copies worldwide, Nevermind would come to be much more than one of the most successful and influential albums of its or any era.

As the album that returned unaffected rock ’n’ roll integrity and passion to the top of the charts, Nevermind would prove a singular inspiration to fans and musicians alike over the last two decades--and will undoubtedly do so for generations to come.

This 20th anniversary reissue of Nevermind sees the original album remastered.

Funnily enough, the highest Amazon have ever charged was £5.93, and there's those other places still charging more!

You'd be mad to buy this version over the 1991 original. Well, if you enjoy dynamic sounding music anyway. The 'remaster' on this like any other of the last 10 years is just loud loud loud. The original, from a time shortly before the loudness wars took off sounds much better.

£4 for an ancient album isn't really hot, especially when two retailers have it for the same price.

I never stopped playing Bleach when I was a teenager, but I was hugely disappointed by this follow-up. It was an attempt to combine art pretensions with radio friendly commercialism which didn’t really work in my view (although I am aware that millions disagree). Massively over produced and manipulated in the studio too. I heard the original demos done with Chad Channing were much better, but that could well be an urban legend – I got the original Steve Albini sessions of In Utero too as I heard that they were superior, but in reality I found them to be little different from the CD release.

Totally agree with the comment about the futility of the ‘loudness war’. Don’t people realise what a volume control is for?

I hate poor remasters Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St. (2010 remaster) is awful - I had to seek out the far superior Bob Ludwig remaster

Nevermind is great - but I prefer PJ - Ten

To comment that it was trying to combine art pretensions with radio friendly commercialism is quite frankly retarted, how can you say it didn't work, as it obviously did!

Amazing album, turn your knob down a bit and enjoy the remaster, its not just about loudness.

I think anyone that possess such a dismal command of their own language as you is a better candidate for being labeled ‘retarted’. On what criteria can you say definitively ‘it obviously did’ work? I was clear that I was just giving my own view, and that I am perfectly aware many disagree. You cannot have a empirically corroborated answer to such a subjective query.

Excessive Loudness degrades the recording quality, most notably seen in some remasters/reissues.

    Um, what?

I bought this on CD in 1998. Would that be the pre "loudness" version?

I have this remaster and it's unbelievably awful. If you like music with no dynamics that's so loud your speakers rattle then go ahead and buy it.

Yes, that will be the same as the 1991 version, I don't believe it was ever officially reissued on CD until this 20th anniversary release.
