Review:

With NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, the Coen Brothers have found a perfect match in Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy. Their adaptation of McCarthy's praised novel is a staggering masterpiece. In this almost impossibly faithful adaptation, the film takes place in a small Texas border town in 1980. Sheriff Bell (a never-been-better Tommy Lee Jones) has ruled the land for years without the use of a gun, but a new brand of reckless lawlessness has taken over his town. Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) is an innocent Everyman with a devoted wife, Carla Jean (Kelly Macdonald), but when he stumbles across a drug deal gone deadly and finds two million dollars, he's determined to keep it for himself. There's only one problem. He's being pursued by one of the most amoral, evil psychopaths that the big screen has ever seen. Wearing an absurd haircut and brandishing a pressurized weapon that's used to murder cattle, Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) creeps forward on his mission to track Moss down and return the money to its rightful owners to save his own skin. As the tension mounts, the body count begins to rise, confirming Sheriff Bell's inability to battle this new wave of modern brutality.

The most striking thing about the Coen Brothers' thriller is their masterly use of silence to create an almost unbearable level of tension. Cinematographer Roger Deakins is once again at the top of his game, beautifully capturing this stark and lonely world. The well-rounded cast is clearly excited to be a part of such a stellar production--particularly Bardem, whose Chigurh is a freakishly mysterious monster, and is certain to haunt viewers long after the final credit has rolled. In a career filled with striking achievements, this might very well be the Coen Brothers' finest. It is filmmaking at its best.

Enjoy ;-)

In your opinion it sucks. I though it was a great film that deserved a better ending.

Its the ending that makes it suck:whistling:

Brilliant film, strange ending, but hopefully left open for no 2?

Missed out on this the other week when it was the same price and was annoyed, so glad that it is back to £2.99 for long enough for me to order a copy! Thanks!

One of the best films I've seen in the past ten years. Anyone who hasn't seen it yet I urge you to save on a pint of beer this weekend and buy this.

Excellent movie with an ending too intelligent and subtle to be understood by today's dumbed-down generation it seems. It's the ending that makes it something special.
#10
another 'marmite' flick, i hate both. The story was stupid and boring with Tommy Lee Jones playing his now usual lonely old man of the law character.

I love these egocentric, I-don't-like/understand-it-so-it-sucks types.

Actually that is a lie. They get right up my nose.

I like most of the Coen brothers' work and I really liked this too, If you haven't seen it, at £2.99 it is worth finding out whether you do. Heat added.

I can't stand Pringles. But if someone posted here that Tesco's were offering 3 tubes of them for £1 or something, I wouldn't be crawling all over the thread about how I hate Pringles and how you shouldn't buy them cos I hate them

but if it was a new flavour that most people hadn't tried you might comment on if you liked them or not?

What a terrible film. Only managed to be the 113th highest rated movie on IMDB averaging an 8.3 rating.
Didn't even have a soudntrack! How am I to know how to feel if there's no dramatic music to tell me something exciting's going to happen?! Also, the ending sucked because bad guys should always die in films.
I'd recommend Die Hard 4 for its subtle plot and less clichéd direction.
#19
Thats true actually. There was no hot chicks or A-list cameos either...
#20
.... and a serious lack of low flying jet aircraft, which leads to the quiet passages in the film and the baddies getting away at the end? You spoiler.

You know its not as though I think I am Stephen Fry or anything, and that I can kill an argument stone dead with the force of the points I make.

But I tell you what. If you read that and then tell people not to buy this cos you don't like it, that strikes me as either ignorant or f**king thick.

DEAR READER: if you have liked any of the Coen brothers previous works, there is a sporting chance you will like this. Yes, the end is unusual, but it is faithful to the book as written and works perfectly well if you are prepared to give a little thought to what you are watching.

Why on earth would you want to listen to the opinions of those people insistent on what you should dislike? At £2.99 it is costing you little more than a pint to find out for yourself. Go on, Give it a try. Some of us really like this film.

I think you need to face the fact that High School Musical is more your level.
