Sean stated it is possible for players to meeting but the chances are miniscule

In reality it is impossible due to instances.

Sean Murray said it was possible but the reason they didn't see each other was likely server issues and even then they never said what kind of interaction you would be able to do, so it's hardly an advertised feature.

Besides, on the box it states that the game is single player only so anything like that is a bonus.

Basically, people had unrealistic expectations of the game, hyped themselves up and expected more. When they got the game as advertised there was hell to pay. As is per usual, per every popular game ever on the Internet.

The cycle shall remain unbroken.

One of the players was offline when they first met. When he got online they complained they couldn't see each other. Very similar to how Dark Souls 3 was at launch really.

Never lied, always said it's theoretically possible but in reality it's probably never going to happen, and that is why I love this game. Don't want any filth in my portion of the galaxy.
The game looks to good and it's absolutely tiny in file size, 4GB!!! If they keep updating it and add more sapient species, war factions, random gun generator a la Borderlands, random quest generator and more I could see this being a game you easily play for the rest of your life.

I think 'if' might be more appropriate than 'when', these days.

But yeah, the only game that I can think of with larger expectations than NMS is Star Citizen. They've promised so much it'll be near impossible to deliver on all of it.

It states it's a single player game. Well it does on my steam store page. People love to complain about games, a lack of multiplayer on a single player game or lack of single player on a multiplayer game.

Yes you can see other players. He also went on to clarify in a further interview that it would be like dark souls. In other words you can see other players, but not necessarily anyone you know. When you see the ghost of another player in dark souls it might not be the ghost of a friend of yours for instance.

I would wager that he wanted meet ups to be random more than anything that if you did meet someone it would be a moment of wonder instead of 'allo Bob, fancy meeting you 'ere.

Yes you can but the chances of it ever happening are minuscule, you'll have better odds wining the lottery. I like that, adds to the overall atmosphere of the game, where you feel alone, bumbling through weird and unknown places trying to find a meaning behind your life, and in the process shooting and looting everything you see.
I want to keep playing this game so bad that I'm restraining myself from just sneaking out of work. Should have taken the week off :(

It was in a GameInformer article, not sure which one but might be this

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/12/10/stop-thinking-of-no-man-s-sky-as-a-multiplayer-game.aspx

Here is the text i read on it before

“People keep asking us about multiplayer and I think when people see this they are going to fully realize what it means to be that far away from somebody else who’s playing,” Hello Games boss Sean Murray told GameInformer.

“People keep saying to us, ‘Yeah, but what if I knew where they were? Would I go there?’ And it’s like, yeah, but they are going to have to stay there for quite a while while you get over there. And then once you get over there you might land on the same planet and then you will say, ‘I’m on a planet the size of Earth and I am on a mountain. Where are you?’ Which is, I know, a weird thing and it’s a daunting thing.”

Murray said that Hello Games embraces the fact that this makes No Man’s Sky quite different from other games. He stressed that playing No Man’s Sky won’t be like playing other games, especially MMOs. Multiplayer will work through open lobbies.

“People are coming into that lobby and leaving it – like if you play Watch Dogs or something like that. Effectively, we have players joining your discrete space,” Murray said.

“We’re not trying to make an MMO where you can play with literally 60,000 people on screen. We handle the case like where other people can fly past in your game or that you can bump into other players in the game.”

Encountering a player on the ground will be even more rare.

“We keep talking about Jack’s dad from Lost, basically just to see them in the distance. Like, ‘Did I? What?'” Murray said.

Murray compared the game to Journey or Dark Souls, where the multiplayer isn’t the heart of the experience, but additive. Hello Games is even looking to implement some sort of messaging system where players can leave notes for each other, apparently.

Yeah I read that a while back. Later interviews he stated clearly you can meet friends and grief each other but it would take a long time to get to each other. They are yet to answer any questions which is understandable as they are in panic mode. We will have to sit back and wait for a response.

God it must be exhausting getting this angry every time a developer changes a product, if the only enjoyment you can see yourself getting from this game is through meeting someone else, then im sure you would have been disappointed either way.

I can see why people feel that way but if anything they just didn't want to get peoples hopes up too much. They never intended for the game to be announced as early as it was and after the flood they almost gave up entirely. If it wasn't for Sony pulling them out of a ditch we wouldn't have it right now.

I got this for £48 in the end after IGN10OFF, fiver in reward points and game reducing the price then raising it a day later (so I paid the lower price). Can't complain at that price! Wouldn't pay 70 for it though. It goes for around £100 on eBay which is pretty tempting.

To get back on subject, is there a realistic £20-25 price for this yet, or are they going to do an Elite and be greedy to the end, I'm not touching it until the price comes down.

It's been out for one day, how is it going to be £20??? You'll be waiting three months at least imo

It's minuscule, but it's a nice set, so if you've got the money, what ya gonna do?

This game is in the very beginning of it's life. I've played it pre-patch, I've played it post-patch, and I have noticed some changes. Changes definitely for the better.
The fact is, this game will go on and grow in what the possibilities will be that you can do with every patch they make.
Look at Minecraft, I was there at the beginning, and it was, basic to the core. No, it didn't have the hype this has got, but that's as much the consumers fault as it is the developers. Stop getting on the hype train. Get out the building, have a walk and wait and see what you get in the final product.
Minecraft has the bonus of being multiplayer, which can be great fun. But the majority of my time in that game was vastly done playing solo. This game would be no different. I have a suspicion over time, they will add more options to meet other players. Even if it's only in a ghost/messaging form.
Seriously, who picked this up with the intention of looking out for people to run into? Seriously? It was NEVER advertised as being the game to do that. Play Destiny.

The point is, pre-patch (as I stated in another thread) I thought this game was a little bit of a disappointment. Post-patch I'm enjoying it. Could be to do with the planet I started on second time, teeming with life, huge gigantic creatures. Some that hunted me down, some that wanted me to feed them.
First play, I couldn't wait to get off that planet.
The second one however. I remained on it for a solid 10 hours before I even went out into space. That's what this game is. Discovery. If you don't like that sort of thing, please please please, don't buy it.

It's a grower, it's grabbed me and I've no regrets. That being said though, with the type of game it is, like Minecraft, I always find these more beneficial to just sit on the HDD to fire up when you want to play them, as opposed to chopping and changing disc. I'll probably buy it digitally when it hits a sale.

Are you expecting a price drop before the game is officially released, or two days after its official release (depending on if you mean PC or PS4)...? I'm not buying it either until it goes -75% off or something, but I'm not being self entitled. The game is selling well, so they have no reason to discount it. They will when it slows down.

By the time it's 75% off, it'll stop being flavour of the month and people will have moved onto other games. Guess that's ok if you don't care about playing during it's peak. I'm still thinking whether £40 for the Steam version is worth it but the promise of the game getting better as more patches roll out might make it worth it.

To be honest, why would you care about playing this at its peak, if it's not multiplayer? It will be pretty much the same.

That's nothing more than speculation at this point. More likely it is impossible due to the game having no multiplayer code.

If you stop and think about it, why would you put multiplayer in a game where there are over a trillion planets per player? You wouldn't. It would be a waste of time and money. What has happened here is either a) under the intense spotlight of being live on US tv, Sean Murray said a few things he shouldn't have, and multiplayer was never planned, or b) the feature was planned and then cut when they realized how pointless and expensive it was. In which case they should have told people.
