Is this any good?

The first episode was fantastic, moody, atmospheric and lots of action however the next couple I found it quite boring and samey. I did not finish the season so not sure if it picked back up again.

That did not really help did it....:D

Kind of did. I found it exactly the same. A little hit and miss.

I bought a load of Anime from a website (of which the name escapes me), and of the bunch i bought, this and "Serial Experiments: Lain" both let me down a little.

I also got the Studio Ghibli boxset which is fantastic, but one of my favourites is Cowboy Bebop. Awesome series.

Still.. this will have its admirers and this is still a very good price for a complete boxset. :) especially for an ADV release. Heat added for the deal.

My good man, studio ghibli stands as a yardstick for all animation to this day - why do you think disney was falling over themselves to get the rights to distrubite ghibli stuff?

However to compare ghibli to the rest of anime is like comparing well, something incredible to something very low....

Anyhow, I had no idea andywedge is an anime fan. I like the chap more now.

By the way stay away from the meloncholic/depressing/stupid anime like Serial experiments, She the ultimate weapon, Elfen lied, Evangelion and other such overcooked anime garbage.

Head over to www.animenfo.com for reviews (be warned too many teens frothing at the mouth at depressing anime and rate animes with hot chicks too high).

Good advice  (even if I did like Elfen Lied). They're (whoever they are) doing yet another ending to Evangelion I believe, and a possible live action film which would mean it now has at least 120 endings. Yay. Just out of curiosity what would you recommend? (Besides Ghibli and Bebop).

I really enjoyed Ghost in the Shell, but thats pretty much a given for Anime.

Blood - the last vampire was good albeit a bit short.
Something that was a little bit different, but i thoroughly enjoyed was a short-ish series called Hellsing.
