Cold deal.

Been this price for an age. Its truely a useless phone, but if you need a spare I guess its just about barable. But its been available at this price for ages, and on better networks.

£17.99? Typical Argos really. Doubt they sold many at that price.

why is it a useless phone? i trust you dont just mean becuase of the (lack of) features? for some people that is no problem (or even a bonus), and i would have thought the battery life would be quite tasty!!!

i would sense that vibeone engages his/her fingers before the mind, and doesn't know much about mobiles in general. Price for it only recently went down at argos, trust me i know.

Its a terrible phone because of the lack of features (which I admit it good for some), but also the screen is terrible, especially in bright light conditions. It also looks cheap and tacky.

All this is pretty irrelevent to the deal rating though - its been a tenner pretty much since it was released.

I'm a mobile and tech reviewer for a popular website. You may disagree, but I claim that means I do know what I'm talking about. For pricing a deal, I also use more site than just Argos. This phone has been £10 since release, or at least just after.

Suggest you engage your brain before posting deals in future, as its clearly you who doesn't know about mobiles, pricing, or deals.

Trust me. *I* know.

God I pity some of the arrogant arses on here. As soon as anyone points out any kind of problem with a deal, they get so upset and whinge on and on. Its a deal. A cold one. Get over it and move on.

Now now, no need to spit your dummy out vibeone, nobody in there right mind would employ a buffoon like u, who expects a top notch phone under a tenner. Is it your own website your a tech reviewer for...

Description starts of saying...not many features, its a basic phone. If you can't understand that, then you shouldn't be in this section, get over it.

Ok, starty pants, put a link up on here for the same phone, cheaper for a website other than Argos.

Man, comes on here with a 1000+ posts, and not a shred of common sense, some people eh.

its the best phone i ever had. battery life and basic functions perfect!

Same here
vibeone says ' Its truely a useless phone'
well vibeone, I've found a use for mine, I make phone calls with it!
Some people don't seem to realise that not everyone wants a load of features that they will never use.

Good price for a basic phone.

I have features on my phone that I never use, nor want to use. I have better things to do than fiddle about with mobile phones.

Will get this for my Mum. She hates the phone she has - it is too complicated as there are just way too many features.
It is a huge market - not everyone wants a phone that sings and dances, some (most) people just want a phone that will do what it should do - ie makes phone calls and a few texts.
Voted hot.

I laughed out loud at that after reading your posts.

I would also suggest you don't know your market that well. Some people just want a phone! nokia do know this and thus provide a phone that calls people and texts people. Seriously, that is all I do with my sony walkman phone - I get blinded by all the gee-whizz of phones thinking how many different girls I'd get and how much more my life will be fulfilled because I spent 5 times more on a phone than I needed - it hasn't happened yet apart from the first few days of having a new phone.

And I'm probably in your target market for reviews - 28 middle class white male.

As I keep saying - I'm under the impression that hukd is for hot deals and not to vote something cold because you don't like the product. If you know a as cheap basic phone then please post that - and considering "you know" then you should share in the true spirit of it all.

For £9.99 I think you would be hard pushed to get another "good" spare phone at this price. Anyone who has the first generation Nokia N95 like myself and my gf will know that they need charged everyday, unless you unlock and upgrade the firmware. I was recently "caught out" while away for the weekend with both our phones out of charge and I had to stop and go in to a pub and ask to use their phone to call our host,so for £9.99 I would say it really is handy. Maybe the "phone expert" can find us another phone with the same stand by,talk time features for less..? :whistling:

Good deal, ever lasting battery is a big plus. Can these be unlocked though?

It seems as this will be easy to unlock very soon and for FREE: http://www.unlockme.co.uk/Asic11.html

edt. That was posted last year, not very reliable.
#15
it comes with a £5 credit
#16
I've unlocked them before for £1.49 off ebay. I'm sure there are cheaper but I was in kinda a rush - that was about 2 years ago. I'm sure there is some free unlocking sites about. But I know you can buy a nokia calculator for unlocking for about £10 or less so you can do most nokia phones. (which is how the ebay guys do it and make loads of £££)

Got this phone for my mum who never had a phone before and she seems OK with it. Ideally, I would have gone for the excellent 1100 which is even easier (that's my phone).

Anyway battery life and charge times are excellent on both. 1 charge = 1 week+ of light use.
#22
Need to know if it can be unlocked.. my phone from 3's sh*te and jut found out that the contract's 18 months (i thought it was 12) so need something cheap to tide me over.

good find :)

Won't work on 3 anyway. Its not a 3G phone and 3 won't let you use their SIMs in non 3G phones.

Excellent phone, long battery life, good signal reception and can withstand hard knocks if you drop it.

**COMMENT DELETED** Uses T-Mobile network so good coverage.

HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT

Thanks OP.

Virgin locked so will take a T-Mobile GSM SIM.

No it won't. Only works the other way around. Virgin SIM in T-Mobile phone. You can't use T-mobile SIMs in Virgin phones.

Really?

I must have been buying magic phones then, because it always works for me. I have a T-Mobile SIM working in a Virgin locked phone and it's not the only one.

Well its never worked for me before, on several different phones but it has the other way. If you look on the internet it says its not meant to work that way around either.

Well in that case I retract my comments in case anyone reads them and gets stuck.

T-Mobile SIMs are not supposed to work in Virgin locked phones.

Really, it shouldn't work that way round.

It might be that your phone(s) is/are already unlocked anyway. Only way to check would be to put in a SIM from a different network (O2, Voda or Orange) to check.

Only one of those here is you I'm afraid.

Here's a scenario for you....My phone (a useless E900) has just decided to break after the smallest of falls. Being a student with...oh no money....I am in the market for a very cheap phone which I can use during this moneyless intermission for basic function i.e. calling and txting. In this case, this phone for the price is perfect. Small, well built for the money, feature-filled (for a £10 *phone*) . Therefore this deal is objectively hot...let me emphasize objectively as the operative word in that sentence as you have clearly failed to comprehend the nature of this website.

Also, kindly supply the location of the popular website that has employed your service, as I would dearly like to inform them of their mistake.

Fail.

I do not think It is possible to unlock it freely.
It is difficult to unlock it. Nice price anyway.

I just checked Carphonewarehouse, and it's 14.95 and you have to buy 10 pound credit on top. Not sure how you found it for the same price on CPW.

You are plain wrong about the screen visibility - there is NO problem in bright light - it is monchrome - it makes no difference if it is bright - it is colour screens that you can't see in bright light - monochrome screens are the same whatever the light (actually a bit easier in bright light). Are you thinking of a cheap colour screen phone?

Voted hot ..... good find .... even better if it comes with a fiver credit.

However, might save even more money by using one of the kids as a mobile.... maybe not, on thinking about it they're probably too heavy and feature rich to lug about.:-D

I'm not gonna bother to reply to all the silly comments on here, wasn't about yesterday, and clearly this got popular - but heres the gist:

1) My dad has this phone. He likes the simple things, hates the video recorder etc. His work gave him this phone, as part of a massive company wide company phone thing. I guess they went for the cheapest/simplest.

Even my father hates it, regardless of its simplisity. I do, believe it or not, see why some people like it. But personally I see it as a very poor example of a simple phone. Simple should not mean poor, at any price. Regardless of what other people claim (And I accept people have differing opinions), the screen is hard to see in bright light conditions - monochrome or not. I'm not sure why you think a mono screen is easier or harder to see in bright light - it makes no real difference - its the screen and plastic shield which makes the difference. Its slow, and extremely limited in terms of texting - mainly due to the low res screen. While you may no agree with my findings, please don't patronise me by telling me I'm wrong :) I have first hand experience of the phone, and I didn't like it. Not because of the lack of features, but the actually functionality of the phone. I'm allowed to not rate something!

2) The phone at its cheapest is around £14.99 elsewhere - and for that reason I accept that at the moment its a hot-ish deal. However, if you look around, you'll see its out of stock in a lot of places. Its end-of-line, and has been £10 in a variety of places since launch. Argos are just getting rid of the stock, whereas other sites and stores' prices are back up - mainly because stock is pretty much gone now. New model is 1113 by the way.

3) As stated before, I do like a feature packed phone, and would never buy this as my own phone. That doesn't mean I can't look at is subjectively, which I have tried to - and come to the decision its a poor phone, at a price I'd expect to pay anyway.\

4) I don't think this is a hot deal, I never did. However, I've always gone on what the deal temperature is, and since its hot, I don't have a leg to stand on.

Hope this answers most of the criticism and abusive put to me.

I'm not allowed to post a link to the site I work for, because apparently the mods have decided it has a single referrer-based advert. However, if you want it, feel free to PM me.
