Cheers man ;)

Still unsure as to whether to go for it though. Any ideas on what the internet access speeds are like, given that theres no WIFI on this model.?

Just a quick heads up, this can be bought on a £10 a month, 24 month contract on vodafone. So £240, but with £130 TCB meaning it works out as £110 but you get 100 mins and 500 texts a month for 24 months.

I know this won't be helpful to everyone as it is double the price but if you spend £30 or more a year on PAYG then it could work out cheaper.

As long as TCB works :P

already on contract Mac, just weighing up my options on swapping my w995 for this as i'll get just under 90 for the other phone at CEX.

just need an idea on what it's like before i commit though.

nice alternative though.

It has HDSPA so its fast enough for most browsing and downloading.

Yep fair enough, just giving a general heads up
I have the nokia 5800 which from what I have heard is fairly similar, and have been very impressed with it since getting it around 8 months ago. Although can not really compare it to any other new phone as the phone i had before that was a motorola razer

Voted Hot btw.

Assuming this is locked to Tesco Mobile, will it work with an O2 sim card?

Just had a quick look for you and can't see a definative awnser for this phone. However the general awnser seems to be no (with the exception of the iphone) From what I have read you can use a tesco sim card in an o2 locked phone but not the other way round :x

Don't forget 3% quidco/TCB (£1.94?) Every little helps :whistling:

No it won't work as already posted and it is also quite difficult to unlock it. I've tried unsuccessfully to unlock one of these for about a month now. Tesco are grief. Anyone with any other ideas how to unlock?

Thanks

I've had Tesco unlock two phones for me (nokia 6300 and W580). Although I stuck with Tesco's network long enough for it to be free unlocks in both cases. The nokia took longer to get the code, but I had to have them resend the code so maybe I missed the email.

it's worth a call to tesco to get them to confirm how much topup has to be added, before a free unlock. i think for phones other than iphone its 30 quid or so, so not too much - but things change all the time!

If you want an unlocked one the DAP offer is supposedly unlocked but I guess that’s not guaranteed. It’s £75 inc £10 top-up on Vodafone with TopCashBack/Quidco of £7. http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/pay-as-you-go/vodafone/nokia-5230-white/

i can confirm DAP ones are locked to the network. Purchased one from them not too long ago and had to get it unlocked.

Seems like the price of this phone is starting to drop. Great deal if you are already on Tesco. I bought the same phone but at Carphone Warehouse on Vodafone for £78.95 which includes the £10 top up - but the best thing was that is was unlocked and unbranded.

Which network was yours on?
Someone received one today and it was a white model on Vodafone and it was unlocked and unbranded.
From what I’ve read on other threads it is a bit hit and miss with this.

I bought one of these from Tesco about a month ago and can tell you the following:

It will not accept an O2 sim.

I've tried getting it unlocked at a stall/shop, and have been quoted £30-£35 and that it will have to be sent away.

I phoned Tesco who said they'd provide me with an unlock code for £20. I put £20 credit on the Tesco sim, phoned them back to arrange getting the code and was told that I may get the code in 3-5 days, but it can take up to 28 days. They deducted the £20 from my credit balance straight away but I am currently on day 26 and still without a code.

Whilst I'm sure I'll be very happy with this phone when I can start using my O2 sim in it, (if Tesco give me the code tomorrow or when I phone them on day 28), it cannot be unlocked quickly or cheaply. Bear that in mind before purchase.

Not strictly true. LG Cookie plus several Nokia's on Tesco Mobile have been found to work on o2 straight out of the box. Granted unsure whether this applies to 5230 though.

As today was day 28, I phoned Tesco who did give me the code and my phone is now unlocked. They did also say that apparently someone tried to contact me 11 days after I requested the code to give it to me . This is not true, as I have had no missed calls and they told me at the time of request that if they were unsuccessful in obtaining me via phone they would email with instructions. Again, this is something they did not do.

So, if you're waiting for a code from Tescos it may pay to badger them after a week or so rather than actually having faith in them doing what they said they would.
