I bought this phone yesterday, and in my opinion this is a great deal. You get 30 days of Unlimited Texts and 6 Months of Unlimited Data. With the £20 top up the phone costs just shy of £100 and if you buy something else thats cheap you can get £10 off for spending £100.

We got this and an iron as we needed a new one, total cost £119.98 and got a £10 off voucher which we spent on a Wii Game(Just Dance) immediately.

Also the phone is great so if you need a new one get this, then buy a SIM only deal and you get a great deal.

I am afraid I don't know, its unbranded though so I wouldn't be surprised if it is unlocked

ok, well the price is good so can't not give it heat. if anyone buys and can confirm it's unlocked I'll probably go buy one (unless there's some horror story about them I need to know? :) )

I do strongly advise you buy the phone, it is a great phone and I can't put mine down. I can't check if it is unlocked however as I don't have a SIM card lying around.

Free car kit too.

It will be locked to tmobile for sure,

You can get it from Prepaymania at £80 also with out buying the £20 top up,its priced at £85 on their site but there is a £5 off voucher around, has been posted here in the last few days,

Also 5% from cashback kings bringing it to around £76 overall with no top up required

A much better chance of it being unlocked also as prepaymania phones usually are,not 100% guaranteed though but the argos one will defo be locked

£20 Airtime must be purchased with this product; this will automatically be added to your order in store.
(but that does take it to just shy of £100, so good for the voucher if you add a filler)

edit: whoops! the op already said that.

Incidentally if you do want the free 30 day unlimited text offer from tmob with the 6 months of free unlimited mobile internet you can get it on any tmobile payg go sim,you don't need to buy a phone, they'l send you one out free if you need it,

you then top it up with £10 and you have until the end of april to send the text to activate the free 30 day texts and AFAIR,until sept to activate the 6 months internet
#10
tangent question - anyone know t-mobile's official unlocking policy for PAYG? e.g. "fine if you've topped up x", or "fine after x months", or "pay us £x now then we will", or just "go away"?

yes,if you had 2 sim cards and topped up each with £10

Just checked, the cut off date for activating the 6 months net is 31 aug

Also had a look on the tmobile site,on site they are only offering a free sim with the free texts now,it was through an email link they had last week with free 6 months internet on top, maybe they have ended that offer now and are only giving it with certain phones,

None the less,no doubt you'll see the sims for sale as I'm sure quite a few people got them and dont intend to use them
#13
Did it come with the free 8gb card?
#14
Just walked into a Carphone Warehouse and asked them to price match, they did the phone for £79.99, but had to buy £10.00 credit, which is still a saving of £10.00 as with Argos you have to top up £20.00. No car kit though!

Big advantage with Carphone Warehouse is the phone comes unbranded and sims free (unlocked). Already got a Vodafone sim in it, decision now is what to do with the T-mobile sim? Perhaps put it in me Dell mini 9 which I bought from visiting this site :)

@ paddymcn.....no 8gb card with this phone, the one I just got did come with an additional back cover which is a pinky colour.

Its the same price at P4U as well (plus £10 top up).
#16
if its unlocked, its a ok deal

yeh, i bought this 5230 a few days ago. crashed a few times with me already.

good phone bar that problem.

I got a 5230 from CPW a month ago or so for £99 : Seems ok for me, hasn't crashed, I'm on v11.0.079 firmware, there is a later firmware v12 something but my phone says there aren't anymore updates available. Great phone, email works great and mail for exchange sync with google calendar is excellent. Best bit is it's a very decent sat nav too with speed cam alerts, traffic alerts, voice navigation and pretty much everything a Tom Tom can do.

Can some clarify. I heard you need to activate the 6 months sim in the original phone one received from Tmobile? Is this right? or if I do buy the sim card, it will work?

where does it say you get 6 months internet? is there a link to t mobile site or something? seems good to me, i'd rather 6 months free than unlocked i think depending on what tmobiles tariffs are like
#24
This is definately locked on the T-Mobile network.

Also, when you purchase the phone from Argos you only have to purchase a £10 topup.

Also, the gift voucher offer has expired.

I can confirm it does come with 6 months internet, t-mobile are offering it on smartphones like this.
They sent me a text when I got it saying I have 6 months free internet.

They would need to activate it first in their new phone before they sent it to you,it would also be best if you got them to check it in another phone just to confirm it can be used on any phone once activated,

If they sent it to you without doing this you wouldn't be able to activate it,seller may not be aware of that though as tmobile don't give you that info

So they will price match a locked tmobile phone and give you a sim free one for the same price? that sounds very good i think ill try that, hang on if you have to buy £10 topup what network as its sim free?
Any comments on whether this is a good deal? Im thinking about getting this sim free for £79.99and using orange dolphin to get free internet after top ups
#29
I just bought this from vodafone, contract with no mobile internet.
Does anyone know whether if vodafone will charge for using the built in GPS?
I'm pretty to GPS tech, but surely if you use for road navigation etc, you need to send/receie signal to know my exact location, hence should incur charges for this??
#30
CPW wouldn't price match for me :(

I bought this yesterday from Phones4U at 79.99 - They have all the big networks not just T-Mobile. Had to top up £10. What annoyed me is that it's £74.95 with free next day delivery on their website and they wouldn't match that in their own store. Must be franchised with tight margins.
It says Purple but it's actually grey/black with a purple cover in the box. They had white too.

Search for 5230 on the Phones 4 U website - I can't seem to add a url here.

do you know if it comes unlocked?

I'm buying this from Argos later. It is available from Tesco Direct for £74 (plus Quidco and £1.48 in clubcard points) but the free car kit is selling the Argos deal to me. AFAIK it is unlockable via

http://unlock.nokiafree.org/5230

I've never unlocked a mobile before so I'll update later on how I get on.

The only minus side I can see is no Wifi. I'll give a review later.

Can assure you now you won't be getting it unlocked free with a code from that site,it isn't possible,

More chance of messing up your phone

I failed on my first attempt :x

Can you recommend a site where I can generate a code? I have 1 more attempt before it locks the phone on my third go. I've put the T-Mobile sim back in and topped up with the £10 I had to buy in Argos. How do I claim the free internet on T-Mobile?

There isn't a site where you can get a code,

Your cheapest option is ebay, you have to post it to them though, but it's the best option, usually a 1 day turnaround, costs about £21

Not cheap I know but it's going to be at least that price elsewhere and most likely dearer,

Just noticed, someone is selling unlock codes for tmobile phones on ebay,£18

There's a couple of sellers offering it on ebay,2 of them being star unlocking and unlock-my -phone,if you going to go for getting it done on ebay pick one of their auctions, those 2 selling id's belong to the same company, they're good
#37
Many thanks, there's a place in Belfast city centre that unlocks them, I'll head there.

I've sent the text off with no reply, I'll give it 30 mins.

Best is to ring t-mobile and request unlock code(they charge £15) and takes a few days for code to arrive.
