I would like this phone.... Carphonewarehouse have exclusivity on it though for 6 weeks and I believe that runs out in about a couple of weeks - so I am hoping that when other places can sell it the price will drop a bit. Hanging on a while for mine.

got mine from carphone and love it :D

carphone phones are also unlocked, not vital but a nice extra

only thing is i cant find a case for it :( and suggestions (not cheap ones from eBay though as i have 3 which are all naff and the 5800 cases dont fit lol )

Have you tried both the 5800 and the 5530? I am thinking that I may be better with the 5530 because it is

a) slimmer
b) cheaper
c) I have no (current) need for 3G or GPS - I just want Wifi
d) presumably has a better battery life

If you've tried them both are there any other benefits of one over the other?

i got this phone when it first came out from cpw. Defo unlocked. Battery life is awesome, and the size difference between this and the 5800 made it a winner for me. it has frozen on me a couple of times, but the wifi more than makes up for that. Get one!
#6
got this from CPW on contract

got it all, bbc iplayer via wifi is smooth as like on the desktop then you get google maps as well

still working my round it but the wifi is an added bonus. the touch screen is brilliant and the handwriting recognisiton again cant fault it

only problem is you cant charge the via the USB connection a shame that

What are these like for browsing the web? Do they do a reasonable job? Can it play flash on web pages?

I have one myself and I think you'd struggle to find a better phone for the money. Battery life on mine has been so-so though. About 2 days in low/normal usage.

This actually has a lower capacity battery compare to the 5800 so I wouldn't automatically assume that it has better battery life just because there is no 3g.

A few little gripes:
- OVI maps doesn't work for it. Not sure why. On the 5800 you can download maps and plan routes. Just because this doesn't have GPS doesn't mean this feature wouldn't be useful.

- You can't seem to download any of the iplayer content like you can with the 5800. Don't know if this is something that needs to be changed on the bbc side of things or not.

- No usb charging - god knows why nokia did this.

But all in all, this really is a fantastic little phone and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Let me just tell you one thing I have the N97 and I just bought one of this Nokia 5530 for the wife and I have to say I was quite impressed whilst using the WIFI I could not notice major differences between the N97 and the 5530. It is very fast to browse internet.

I could not install SKYPE on the 5530 but I managed to install FRING so my wife can make Skype call (via fring) on the 5530 to my N97 for free is just brilliant

It's a nice phone this 5530 and unlocked. My N97 is locked to 3 and so far I have not being able to unlock it :x

The Nokia 5530 is brilliant and it works in the same way as the 5800 and N97.(only thing it has not got the GPS and 3G)

Thanks asandino :)

had a 5530 come yesterday, never been able to get on with touch screen phones, mind you only tried viewty and cookie.

This 5530 is a great little phone, bargain at £130 , im sure it will drop more over the coming months, but its snappy, quick, good screen, not bad at all.

One update to my post above - you can now get ovi maps to work on the phone. That means full offline maps right on the phone!
#16
gonna order later one

It does say it has 3G on the link.

Main disadvantages:

No 3G support

No built-in GPS receiver

Display has poor sunlight legibility

Default font size is a bit small due to the smaller screen

Somewhat limited 3rd party software availability

Average camera image quality

Video recording quality is unimpressive

Doesn't charge off its microUSB port

No smart dialing

No DivX/XviD video support out of the box

Shaky back cover compromises build quality

No TV-out functionality
Why would anyone buy this over the 5800 :/. You can get the 5800 for around this on ebay. Much better phone.

The wife is not bother with the extra features of the 5800 but the main attraction of the 5530 is the size and is a lot thinner than the 5800.

I bought the 5530 because the 5800 is too bulky for me.

Yes that's the same problem Nokia is having with the N97 such a good phone but too bulky for some people. Not for me though I love my N97.

That's why they are bringing out the Mini N97 which I think it would be a similar size than the 5530 but with keyboard.
