Nokia's first touchscreen mobile - the Nokia 5800 - is a fantastic all-round phone, letting you surf the net or use your mobile as a modem with your laptop.

Nokia's first touchscreen mobile - the Nokia 5800 - is a fantastic all-round phone. You can surf the net with web'n'walk or use your mobile as a modem with your laptop - and with Microsoft push email, your email arrives automatically. You can take great quality pictures with the 3.2 megapixel camera, listen to your favourite tunes on the MP3 player and you get a massive 8GB memory card to store up to 2,000 songs or 8,000 photos. And with in-built GPS and Nokia maps you'll always know where you are. The 5800 also has a useful added feature. You can turn it over to silence the ringing - which is great for meetings!

I have one of these on Virgin Mobile. Nokia have just provided free sat-nav on this model and after using it for a few months its better than some stand-along programs. You can manage your locvations on Ovi Maps and sync the details to your phone....

8GB memory card ... very generous. This looks like a good deal, but I'm a little worried about the fact that it's reconditioned. Has anyone any experience of T-Mobile reconditioned mobiles please?
#10
I got one of these phones thanks to the Marschall Ward misprice.
My impressions?

Brilliant phone.

I did find that 8gbs wasn't enough for high quality (320kbps) mp3s and I'm now finding the 16gb card I put in is running out fast.
That's a bit of a pain if you do much videoing (which is surprisingly good), still pics can be a bit annoying as there is a noteable delay between pressing to take pic and the camera responding.

This phone will take an even bigger micro card, so roll on the roll out of the 32gb micro cards (at a sane price).

The maps thingy hasn't really worked for me (could be my location or I need to set-up......I've not much use for it so far but I suppose it'll be nice to have when it works.....great that it's free tho).
I'm enjoying it, the various aps are very good (last.fm is a nice recent addition).

I expect this will be my last phone until the big screen iPhone/HTC phones come down to a sensible price.
I hate contracts and £500+ for a PAYG 32gb iPhone is beyond belief.

There is no delay when taking photos if you know how to use it fully.

Try this:

When in camera mode, press the shutter button on the side of the phone quite hard. It's important you press it hard because otherwise it will focus and that takes like 1-2 seconds.

Good deal.

£10 a month for mobile internet (one of the boosters available) isn't to be sniffed at!

Are there any apps that let you send SMS messages for free via e-mail I should know about?

Definitely going to grab one of these, so general app advice etc from anyone who already owns would be great.
#21
Great deal IMO. Just hope the phone is in good shape.

I asked Virgin to match this deal, but they couldn't. Bye bye Virgin contract!
#22
A dog of a phone. Series 60... no app store... buggy ovi. Good luck folks

Can't see how you can get 2 boosters included for free. Any further info? Also, worth noting that the Refer a Friend scheme looks like you have to purchase instore or over ths phone, so no cashback. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Yeah it's a sneaky tactic by Nokia, after a good few months of release they 'cheapen' up the package by excluding the connection cables or making them shorter. Look at the size of the MicroUSB connection cable to the PC, it's like 10cm!
#36
Just a quick query on this point

"...You can surf the net with web'n'walk or use your mobile as a modem with your laptop..."

The T&C that came up when I placed an order for the £10 a month contract seemed to state that using this as a modem for your laptop or for voip calls wasn't allowed. Is this the case and if so how is it enforced? It's not a deal breaker but I'd have liked to play around with both these possibilities.

Excellent deal from my perspective.

They dont come with leads anymore. not even the new ones.

I can confirm that you can use the phone as a modem for your laptop, I asked the live chat guy called Leroy and I was allowed to take a grab as evidence! Ordered, great deal!

Has anybody managed to update the firmware on the 5800 that arrived with this deal? Server keeps timing out when I use Nokia's pc software and it won't connect to the server for over the air updates. Anybody had more joy?

Sorry but you have to wait for T-mobile to release their software should not be too long now.
It would be worth asking or sending an e-mail to push them on a new firmware update.
