Good deal. I got this phone free, £20 a month, 1000 texts a month and 600mins a month, AND free internet.

But this is a good price for the phone alone. :)

Considering my contract is 18 month, im paying £360 in total for it. But if the phone is £205.70, then, im really getting all the above for just over £8 a month.

That is a good deal for £20pm if you don't mind me asking which network did you get it from?

Thanks

Phone can be buggy though - my wife has this, and sometime the screen does not show the caller, it's just blank, and other times when the keylock comes on or you activate the keylock with the slider, the screen stays lit indefinitely ie/ does not go black. This canes her battery.

There is a Nokia update for the Blue phones, but this has not been rolled out to the Red 5800 yet, so beware, it's a good but buggy phone at present...

I got the same deal. I'm with o2 and was due for an upgrade. They are taking 40% off every tariff (except iphone tariffs). I would imagine this is only for existing customers.

Sounds like the o2 £35 tariff

It's a phone... =/

Dialaphone has this nokia for £195.70 PayG on O2

Great price for the present time.

I wonder when this type of type of thing will reach £99? That's the most I'm willing to pay!

Doesnt seem theyre all having the same problems, may have to take yours in, did you try a factory reset?

Also the new FW seems to be causing problems on certain phones thats why Nokia pulled it then re released. Only certain phones will upgrade, depends on model no, and service provider.

I have one of these to, dont seem to have the problem you describe & running old FW.

Does anyone know if this is being LOCKED to O2?

If so, is it possible to unlock it to work with any other network.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe something is blocking the sensor on the front when in a call. this is a function to stop your ear pressing anything.

To follow up on hippyharry I renewed my contract on Monday with O2.

They offered me 400 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited O2 to o2 (better than 600 minutes I think) over 18 months. It was for either:

£15 a month plus £150 credit (so 10 months free).

Or £20 a month, with a Nokia 5800 or indeed LG Renoir or quite a few decentish phones.

I went for the £15 a month as it worked out that the phone would cost me £240 (£150 + £90) and I could get it PAYG for substantially less.

Hope that helps.

What sort of touch screen does this phone have? Something similar to the iPhone or more like the LG Viewty..?

Looks like a nice phone if perhaps a little out of my budget right now. Bit annoyed that I spent so much on my Viewty only a few months back..
#26
Would get it, but i'm on 3 .. not O2.... :(

I had a 5800 for a week on vodafone upgrade, I thought it was pants. Poor GUI, poor touchscreen response, didn't like the raised edge, cheap plasticky look and feel, bendy screen etc etc. I am used to Symbian (had an N95 8GB) but I found this s l o w.

I compared it to a friends iphone and the 5800 was outclassed in almost every way. Even the supposed excellence of the dedicated sound card on the 5800 sounded no better to me than my N95 8GB.

If you can do without the 'slightly' better camera on the 5800 (I wasn't impressed with it) and the mms thing etc then go for an iphone.
5800 on PAYG = £215 + min £5 pm web = £275 over 12 months
iphone on PAYG = £340 with free web for 12 months
£65 more, but in my opinion a vastly superior bit of kit, like 5 times as good.
Just thought I'd add my opinion for anyone who is not sure. I wouldn't have bothered with the 5800 if I had known.
PS I am not anti-Nokia or pro-Apple, but I just like quality kit I sent the 5800 back, very dissapointed and underwhelmed.

As a separate issue, I understand that the nokia maps doesn't do a full postcode search (might be of note if you were hoping to replace a satnav)

I paid £170 for mine from ebay - brand new unlocked and sealed. I already had unlimited internet on my Vodafone simcard, so this has cost me only £170. An iPhone or other similar spec'ed phone would cost at least £250+.

For the price this is superb! Garmin works perfecty fine on this - the GPS is so good I can get signal indoors within 20 seconds with A-GPS! Nokia maps is much faster on this than the N95 8GB. And google maps works soooo smoothly.

The speaker quality is 10 times better than N95 8GB, as is the battery life. Camera quality is decent and so is web browsing - i don't think its as good as iPhone web browsing though.

It does feel cheap and plasticky - and the raised edge is so you can put it face down without scratching screen.

For the price I can't complain - plus you get all the normal phone features that Nokia has developed over the years. Its no iPhone - but in terms of price it slaughters the iPhone - and many other phones.

I have had the N95 8GB for over a year - and I can say that this is much faster! It has a 369Mhz processor compared with the N95's dual 332Mhz & Graphics processor. Hence gaming aint going to be as good but it is responsive.

The screen is resistive touch because you still need/can use the stylus/plectrum in places - which is in line with what Nokia wanted i.e. to have as much input methods as possible including handwriting. Hence it's not as responsive as they have had to compromise with a resistive touch to provide stylus input - which is possible but not ideal on a capacitive touch screen like the iPhone. Hence why the iPhone doesn't come with a stylus.

Just a quick update, mine has been despatched today after ordering it last night and its the NEW BLACK version!

Just got a reply from Dial-a-Phone team:

Thank you for your recent e-mail, I have taken the opportunity to look into your query and can confirm that all handsets we supply are locked to the network provider that we supply them on.

Yours Sincerely,

I've ordered one for a friend, i got an e-mail saying payment didn't go through last night, they rang this morning and i gave the same card details again (after saying the metro10 code for discount cos he wanted £205) the guy said it went through. I've now recieved another e-mail saying it hasn't gone through. WTF is going on?
#34
now down to £195. so £186 with voucher - £5 on quidco

No, because you have to pay £10 topup.
#37
I think this is a common price.

its also £195.70 at phones for you (and mobiles2yourdoor) and you get £10 back from quidco, includes the 8gb memory card. Found deal here. So worth considering if it goes out of stock or if you dont like dialaphone, unless they are the same company?

a work colleague has this phone on a contract and loves it, though i prefer the look of the iphone.

As its about the same price in a few places I reckon it wont be long before it drops.

Sal:)

No voucher code for 10% at P4U though...pity and I have bought from P4U before and they deliver their phones with security seal broken. (to make sure everything is inside the box..;-) ) and have returned them and asked for a sealed version and do the checking myself...which they have complied
