I'm currently on 3 and in need of a new phone - if I bought this could I unlock it to use on the 3 network?

I know a lot of phones are not compatible to 3 but seeing as though they offer this handset themselves I thought it might be possible?

While this is good I prefer the £63 K800i I got from Dial-A-Phone on Voda with £10 credit and £5 quidco
(Spare 3G PAYG phone for me)

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167071

Which I'll be unlocking this weekend

But if you are a Nokia fan this is a v good deal.

Great price for a phone with WiFi ...........

It a Samsung X660, it's a miss print on the site.

I've just ordered one and it's stated as X660 on the last checkout page and the conformation email...

Wow tempted, how are orange recon phones, they don't come in cheap white boxes like e2save do they? Also want information about unlocking, is this bb5 that most phone shops can unlock? I assume these can be branded using nss?

Any info will be appreciated!
#7
love the retro samsung - its only a few years old but has the old style charm .
#8
How bad is the camera?
#10
I only had one recon phone from Orange and it came in a plain box with the totally wrong battery cover !

You get an Orange box !! But all you get in it is the phone, battery and charger. No data lead or headset etc...

I've had 3 in the last 4 months and the phones have been like new and worked faultlessly.

I might get the E65 I ordered this morning tomorrow, I'll post again if I do.

Oh, the E65 can be de Orange branded back the Nokia firmware.
#12
e65 is a great phone ONLY if you upgrade the firmware... as the older ones are buggy. Since i update the fw, the phone has never rebooted or hung.

Great phone... battery life is poor, but something i can live with. You can extend the battery life by disabling 3G. BUt with 3G enabled, the phone constantly swaps between 2 and 3G, dropping calls if you're caught in the middle of a swap.

Hi, I am interested in this. I wonder if somebody could help me though please?

About the wifi, if I say were to come home, would it automatically connect to my wifi network and upon doing so, check my pop3 email account and then frequently afterwards, or is it all manual for that?

Thanks!

Theres a vid on utube that says you can set it up so that it'll switch to wifi if it detects it, but thats using the Nokia firmware so you may need to flash it.

Just found it, there you go...

Thanks for that, that's based upon VOIP though I think rather than POP3 email checking.

Here suggests it can do what I want:
Being able to connect to a WLAN network on your mobile phone is a very handy feature. If you use e-mail on the E65, you can configure the handset to automatically connect to a WLAN network in range and download the e-mails using that connection, rather than a packet data connection. This is (usually) much faster, and not to mention cheaper! The E65’s web browser can also use a WLAN connection to browse the internet.

I would love somebody who does it to say they do though? I like the idea of having it checking my email if I don't want my laptop on.
#16
Your right, sorry. I should have rewatched it BEFORE I posted !!

If my E65 turns up tomorrow I'll test the wifi and let you know...
#17
using wi fi permanently on like that ... your battery will last like ... 1 hour before going completely flat
#18
wi fi on this phone is pointless! ... you're better off using the 3g data services and use mobile gmail or something like that.
#19
Thanks, I would really appreciate it. It's a two fold thing for me, automatic connecting to wifi at home and then on doing on, frequently check pop3, if not, it seem rather useless to me for what I want.

I know on my old phone I could set it to check my pop3 every "x minutes" and I wonder if you can do it on this phone, but I imagine if I can, it will do it over GPRS whilst I am away from the wifi rather than assuming I only want it to check whilst on wifi...hmm!

Is it that bad? Guess it' no good for me then. :( I want looking for an excuse to get rid of my W580i. So is the wifi only intended for short term use?
#21
The camera is cack on the E65 but so what, it's still the best phone I've ever owned, I would highly recommend it.

Feels like it'll last forever
#22
Best phone I've had too.

Uber cool when you boot up Tom-Tom on a phone

yup,,,,,, orange accessories is operated by part on the phones4u group.

I got one from them before - a while ago and it was filthy and wouldnt power up

called them to return it and they insisted that 'I' pay for the postage, after shouting,,, a prepay bag was sent.

would like to hear peoples experiences now... many thanks

is the phone unlocked:?
#25
Suprised no one has mentioned this is very similar to an N95, just that it has a lower quality camera apparantly, no gps (my N95 gps is so slooow, prfer my external i use for tomtom) and has a slightly older S60 V3 (Feature pack 1 or something). Most questions can be answered on a n95 forums. I really reccomend fring if you want to use voip if orange have blocked it.

Flash the firmware as well if you're not too bothered about losing the warranty - someone on a n95 forum mentioned that although the provider will not want to know you, a nokia shop aren't as bad - i take no responsibility for the accuracy of that.
#26
Oh and no accelerometer, so no rotateme.

Actually having said all that, is it worth getting a second hand N95 off flebay instead?

Its a standard Orange handset, so no, its no unlocked. I'm told most phone shops will unlock it for between 5 and 10 quid...

Avoid this phone!!!

This is what the work gave me as a company phone.... it is by far the worst nokia phone i have ever used... non user friendly, terrible battery..................................... in general ****!!
#31
I've had those phone for a bit now and its the best one i've had - i've got it on three so its got msn messenger, skype and all kinds of things running on the phone

Defo reccomend!
#32
Those who think this phone is rubbish obviously don't know what this phone can do.

read my blog.

http://supere65.blogspot.com/

Like i said in previous posts, battery life is not great, but just make sure you have lots of charging points in the house, office, etc.

You don't need wifi on a 3G network with data package (e.g. 3 network, 3 GB of data for £5 a month)... 3G is like wifi, but EVERYWHERe. hehe ..

Would be interesting to know if the people who have had a bad experience with this handset were using it with network branded firmware or straight Nokia 'vanilla' firmware ?

Ordered yesterday at 9:50, had been told when I called them a week back about something else, "If you order early in the day, you'll get it next". Well seems thats a pile of poo as nothing here so far...

Yes, they will be locked to Orange. I've had 3 other phone from this site in the last 3 months and there were all locked .

Phone arrived at 7:40. Looks as good as new. No SIM Though and sadly not unlocked.
