I was looking to get an E71 through the "Three" contract deal but was a bit concerned over coverage so phoned Vodafone to see if they matched other providers (current climate and all that). I know these deals are usually customer specific but I don't have a deal with them so it wasn't a retention deal or anything like that. Anyway, told them the Three deal and they offered me free new E71 on 18 month contract with 600 inclusive anytime minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited email/internet for £35 per month discounted to £17.50 per month for full 18 months and £50 account credit. (I know you miss out on Quidco but you would not get as good a deal either).

Seemed pretty good to me so signed up ! I know some (quite a few) will vote these deals cold, I am simply passing on a deal which was made generally to me as a new customer. Hope it helps some one !!

hmm, you were a bit concerned about Three's coverage eh..?...just ask any existing 3 customer and they'll tell you how bad it is.

Looks like a very good deal. Just a shame I don't seem to get signal in my flat so I'm pretty set on leaving them.
#3
yep - quite a few negative comments, only positive ones came from people who had no dealings with the Three customer service based half way round the globe !!

I was amazed really, phoned them not expecting to get anything and certainly didn't think they would offer more !!

James02, double check that the last three months of your contract are definetly half price as any deal over the last few years I have had from Vodafone direct have been at full price. They say its impossible to discount the last three months of any 12, 18 or 24 month deal, something to do with the upgrade period for a new phone I believe. Looks a good deal though!!

One thing to bear in mind - the Nokia E72 is going to be released soon and Vodafone are rumored to be getting it first, which is why they are trying to shift stock
#14
Is that £50 an extra credit on your bill over and above the line rental discount ?

Agreed, the E72 is out in the next few months but the E71 is a VERY good phone and this is a stonking deal.

This would be a stonking deal if it were valid for anyone other than the OP. I doubt very much this will be honoured for anyone else. I'd be in for this price.
Well done OP. you got yourself a cracking deal...=]

I would check your account to make sure that the £50 is definitelly credited to your account. A while back (N95 contract) I was offered a similar deal with the promise of a £100 credit after the first month of the contract and also a discounted line rental. I never got the £100 and had to phone vodafone every month for the first 6 months of my contract as the line rental was never what it was meant to be, they didnt quote me the price including VAT and added charges for random things every single month. It was my first contract mobile and was a terrible experience. I hope this doesn't happen with you but I wouldn't recommend them based on the experience I had with them.

good deal...

Good deal but I am already on Vodafone and have my eyes firmly set on an E72 in September when my upgrade is due. Well done for getting it, these deals are getting harder to squeeze out of the providers than they used to be.
#21
maybe im being a bit odd, but amongst all mobile providers voda is always my favourite
or maybe im always connected to friendly and helpful person when calling customer service
and the coverage is brillant, always full signal strength at home (o2 cant pick up network, 3 giving half signal sometimes even roaming!)

and voda is one of the most generous merchant on quidco, in fact my last contract tracked 3 times and yes i got 91x3 cashback! woohoo

I've had an E71 for a year now.
It's a good phone, but a wee bit of advice...
Keep it in its cover while it's in your pocket, as the screen marks real easy ;-)

Nah, they did a similar offer to me this time last year - a week or two before they even had the E71 in stock.
It all depends on where they are in the sales quarter and how far off the sales target they are for said quarter.

My contract is up in a few days .... and I'm bored ... so I might phone up and play the "can I have me PAC please ? " game :w00t:

Has anybody else got this? is this better than the 5800??
#25
Looks good to me -been waiting for a decent deal.

Its not the 'perfect' phone for me so I looked at resale price and recycle price - £150ish fleabay, £71 recycle! (they offered me £105 for my N95!!)

How do you reckon the E71 compares to the 5800?

I need GPS, radio, email, internet (and calls!)

Is internet OK on this?
#26
No Skype, No deal
#27
Hi yes this deal is correct, because vodafone can offer the tariff half price (from £35 to £17.50), however it is usually only for 12 months on a £17.50 a month, 18 contact, or £20 a month for 15 months on a 18 month contract. SO in both cases on this tariff, vodafone will receive £420 from you either way. So it must have been a 1 off, as you get the full 18 months half price mate. I would reccomend calling Vodafone up and confirming the offer. Cheers

It has VOIP

Vodafone never locked out VOIP on this handset

Yup, it does all that ... and makes calls
Internet is way better on the E71 than it was on the bug ridden N95.
Additionally, the battery lasts way longer than the N95 ... which to be honest, isn't difficult :whistling:

I was shocked with Vodafones good service really, always give me the deal I want. Didn't really think much of Vodafone really, seemed like a crappy network, but they have the best coverage - slightly better than O2.

And Vodafone DO pull strings even for new customers.

Check the contract and first bill thoroughly.

I got a couple of lines for my parents, told the guy I was selling the phones as they already had handsets. He then proceeeded to add insurance to the account without my consent (totally inappropriate since I'd informed him I wass selling my handsets).

I didn't notice it because it was zero rated on the bills, and then after that left the bills to my parents to check. It was half price for a few months then reverted back to normal price, so I told them the line rental would go up after a few months. So when the insurance started being charged they assumed it was part of this.

It was only 6 months later when I was going through the household bills that I spotted it. For several months I was promised callback after callback, which never materialised. The worst thing is, in the last few months of the contract they would call me weekly to renew, but no one could be bothered to call me back about the insurance added to my account without my consent.

It was like pulling teeth to get the name and details of the insurer, which they still got wrong. I never received a single piece of policy paperwork. And it was only when I spoke to the FSA, that I found out it was underwritten by an offshore company, therefore didn't come under the FSA regs.

Finally I wrote to the CEO, and I was amazed to find even then they only offered me 50% back. Despite having no original recording or any other form of proof I explicitly entered into a contract for the insurance. And despite it being clear the insurance was not appropriate for my needs since I'd immediately sold the handsets.

In short don't be fooled by their stature as a large multinational company. Any company that would deal with financial services contracts in such a blase manner is not too be trusted.

Check everything, then check it again. Then check it again every month. Because you'll be waiting months for someone to call you back to address an incorrect/overcharge.

You were concerned about 3's coverage? It's tons better than Voda, as confirmed by the OFCOM maps released earlier this month. They may have crap customer services but they have excellent coverage
#34
I'm also with Vodafone and was offered 18 months @ 50% off to renew my contract for 18 months, but after 6 months I noticed I was being charged full price. When I called to query this I was told there was no record of the offer - the sales person promised one thing over the phone and logged another. Vodafone finally agreed to honour the offer, but only after hours of disputing it with the customer service team. Make sure you get a record of their offer inwriting!

Half way across the globe seems to make no difference - they're as iffy as everyone else's and at least they answer the call quickly. So count me as contradicting your statement.
