Hi everyone. My son wants one of these and is already on Virgin. I was under the impression it was a microsim phone. Is that right? How easy is it to cut it down a normal sim?

So close, yet so far!

I have a phone on order with Clove. An unlocked, sim free, unbranded handset, but it costs £520. :( The cost has never sat quite right with me. It works out slightly more expensive than buying PAYG from EE, once I take into account unlocking fees, running two contracts for 3 months, then cancelling my current one.

Anyway, I decided to pop into the EE store in Bootle Strand (see above) and decided if they had it on PAYG, with the freebies, I was going to get it. I just couldn't wait and I would somehow manage the network lock issues.

They had it, with freebies, no questions asked! Until it got to the till - it wouldn't go through the system as PAYG, contract only. I'd have to re-order a PAYG version, but their system was down and I couldn't even do that. So I left empty handed. :(

Maybe it's fate. Maybe I was meant to stick with the Clove handset.

Thanks for the link benznet

I've just got back fron Leadenhall market branch in City of London. I bought a black PAYG for £410 with £10 top up. Went through the til no problem with free headphones and charger. Will be trying to cut down my sons virgin sim over the weekend. The only other store in the city I could get through to with them in stock is Kensington where they had 2 black ones but the lady who answered the phone didnt know about the free charger.

Just rang virgin mobile. They are sending me a microsim instead of cutting down the existing sim. They also said if i wanted to pay to get the phone unlocked they would pay for it! ! Asked about the deal my son was on for £5 a month which was 125/500/250mb. Upgraded him to 200/unl/2.5gb data for an extra 99p!

One of the three EE stores in Solihull assured me that the Lumia 920 wasn't being sold on Pay As You Go. Other two stores were too busy and understaffed. Frustrating!

I got the Lumia 920 from P4U because I wanted the red version. Am totally in love with this phone; it is indeed heavier than others but it feels sublime in the hand and the screen simply amazes me every single time I unlock it. This handset is just so good. Looking forward to getting my free charging plate soon.

Did they price match the Orange £399 offer?

Just been back to the EE store with my receipt and showed them the screenshot of the receipt from the first page. They then provided the wireless charger for free! So happy with it.

great phone! Best purchase I've ever made

Just an update on my post yesterday for those following the thread: I went into the Bull Ring in Birmingham today to see if they would sell me the Lumia 920 on PAYG. The manager of the EE store said the offer of the phone for £399.99 was with Orange only (as per this thread) and therefore it would be locked to the Orange network only so my T-Mobile sim would not work in the handset. Wasn't entirely sure whether I was being fobbed off or not so I went into Phones4U. Despite the display stating the phone was on sale sim free for £459.99 they said they were only selling the phone on contract!

I really am starting to wonder if anyone wants my business?!

That's a great offer to get it unlocked. Grab it! Unlocks are starting to appear online, but they're £45+vat!

Hello mate,

It sounds like you've had a bit of a nightmare. When I popped into the Vic Centre and Clumber street stores, they were spot on, as per my previous post, they even let me try my Virgin sim to see if it worked. Unfortunately at the time, they didn't have any in stock in both black or white but were well aware of the PAYG deal.

For info, I rang all 4 of the Nottingham stores last week to get an update, all of them said they were out of stock apart from one of the ones on Albert Street (Broadmarsh) who said they were getting some black PAYG ones in (this was last week, think it was Wednesday 28th) . I'm a patient soul and waiting for the white one. It might be worth ringing first to save you some grief.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Kash

Hey mightyforest, how did you get the 7.8 rom on the Omnia7? Very curious, I've been stuck on 7.5 mango, without a fix for the disappearing keyboard due to T-Mobile's incompetence. I'm assuming it's not a completely official 7.8 upgrade, so are there any problems it causes to the handset, any features/functions not compatible with the rom?

Went into Bristol Cabot Circus EE store earlier and the girl working there said Orange "were not selling the phone on PAYG." Asked her if the other Bristol Galleries EE store would be selling it and she said definitely not. Went to the store anyway, a total of two minutes walk away and sure enough, they had it on PAYG for £399.99 and a free charging plate if you topup £10.
Unfortunately they gave me the option between the charging plate or the headphones, saying it was one or the other. Nonetheless, got the charging plate as the headphones seem to be fairly average.

I just called EE Watford (used to the Orange shop) and had a conversation with a "sales person" in there and he said, after claiming to not know anything about a free charging plate, only free headphones, that they had received a memo from head office saying they were not to give them out anymore? So unless he was fobbing me off, it is only P4U where you can get one for free, but pay £60 more for the phone!

What a farce this company is, shame on you Nokia and MS for giving them exclusivity. Trying to give them my money..........

I installed the Mi7Rom 7.8. There is now a newer version with oifficial 7.8 but yea most of the features there, some very good ones too. The rom i used tricks your phone into thinking its a nokia 800 so i get all the nice nokia apps too. Very easy to put on aswell as the omnia7 is easily rooted
