EE Stores around the country seem a bit hit and miss when it comes to explaining what Lumia 8/920 customers are entitled to.

I know there are others who share my experience, of being told conflicting things regarding the free Nokia wireless charger offer.

I was told by 5 EE stores that the free wireless charger offer is for contract phones only.
a fact that, while I knew wasn't true (due to hearing other people's success stories) I couldn't prove.

Until I popped in to the Cheapside EE store near my office in London, I spoke to an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable sales person, who explained to me that the offer was open to all Lumia 820 and 920 handsets that were sold with a 'connection' and didn't specify anywhere contract only.

He said he'd be happy to give me one if he had any stock. - I explained the trouble we are all having getting a single answer out of any one store and he told me about the internal memo that went out explaining the deal.
I asked him if he would print me a copy.
Incredibly, He obliged.

Below is the memo sent to EE stores from head office;
The key paragraph is at the bottom of the page:
"To help you drive sales we will also be giving away a free Nokia Wireless Charging Plate with every connection to one of these handsets.".....
"In order to process the free accessory, just scan the handset and accessory as part of the same transaction. The £39.99 discount will then be automatically applied."

Needless to say, I walked in to another store around the corner, explained the situation, showed my original reciept, and this memo, they took note of my details, then I walked out with my wireless charger.
I hope this helps some of you guys get your free chargers too.

Is this for both the white and the black colours (with P4U having the red and the yellow)?
Cheers
jazferbetay#3
Can you use this on 02 and Vodafone network tho or just unlocked between orange tmobile and ee

Tempting.

This was for the black as the white only works with EE 4G, which is not PAYG yet. Can be used with an EE, T-Mobile, Orange or Virgin sim.

Good price..

At that price I think I'll go for it. I can't find the deal on the EE website, so I presume you have to go into store to find the deal? Which store did you find this deal in?

Should be in all EE stores, however some of them wont sell the phone on pay as you go as they claim to not have enough stock.

I'll be taking my £459.99 920 back tomorrow to get this instead :p
MrC8880#9
My sister got one on a cracking contract deal this weekend, but I'm 6 months into a 24 month contract on Orange already. This makes the changeover much easier. At £459 it was just too pricey. £399 with the free extras is the right price. I'll call round my local EE stores tomorrow, see if any will do the deal for me.
striker33#10
Also for anyone thinking about getting this phone. Don't even think, just do it. Its a fantastic bit of kit.

If you're an audiophile, this phone is unbeatable unless you go for specialist equipment. Nokia music is fantastic as well. Infact pretty much every nokia app is fantastic.

Its streets ahead of any other phone in every area except apps. But from what I've seen, the apps are higher quality than the android store equivalents, and given how easy it is to port native windows 8 apps to windows phone 8, the store should fill up in no time.

This is the experience I had at first. I had to go to five different stores before they would let me buy one. You would think they would want the £400 sale!

cracking phone for a bargain, no need to think twice. its the best phone in the market at this very point...

New name, EE, but old habits die hard!

Also be careful, you won't get any returns from EE if buying instore

Ok, look at it this way, even if it was an equally as good device, the nexus is still pretty much half the price. Much 'hotter' deal.

If you think its too heavy then, other than looking extremely foolish and ladylike, you appear to have much more severe issues at hand.

This is in addition to being terrible at trolling.

Its a good deal shame it isnt in cyan or i would of bought this in a heartbeat DAM YOU EE FOR LACK OF COLOURS!!!!

Was due an upgrade last month but decided to delay in eager anticipation for this to be released.
High spec phone, get a lot for your buck, however, I held one for the first time yesterday, and I have to say I felt let down by the lack of quality feel to the handset. Gave an unsatisfying plastic feel, what a shame, so I shall be looking elsewhere.
Hope Nokia sell them though, I know they've thrown a lot of money at this handset. I don't wanna see the company fold.

Nexus 4 8gb is £239
Nexus 4 16gb is £279

Lumia 920 32gb + wireless charger + wsc headphones = £400

so for £120 extra you get 16gb more plus a charger and headphones. Pretty good deal

Which exact headphones and is it the standard Nokia wireless charger? Not the fatboy pillow?

Phones4U one should be arriving this morning and will be going back tomorrow ;-)

EE sucks though. Their 3G is slow and 4G isn't even as fast as 3's or Voda's 3G.
£400 for a phone that's nothing compared to iPhone 5 is expensive.

Can anyone who get one confirm if the phone is locked to Orange/EE and if it's branded? Many thanks!
Love the price, thanks OP!
angstmann#39
Could do without having to haggle and hustle to actually get the phone. Not my style. This phone looks awesome though and I definitely want one. Think Nokia have dropped the ball with their exclusivity deal with EE meaning that you can't buy these unlocked and SIM-free. I try to avoid contracts these days where possible!
Wooks#40
Us older geezers who had mobiles in the early days know about the nokia build quality.
I have a htc which reboots as soon as you look at it, and have a 10 year old nokia which is still going strong.
Gone onto monthly sim waiting for the prices to drop. This phone is my first choice, but unless prices drop I will be forced to take a nexus 4. Not because its the best, just the fact that I can buy a 16gb nexus for me and an 8gb for the misses for less than an iphone 5. Pretty hard to argue with that.
striker33 3 Likes #41
Just to confirm guys, this DOES work with Virgin sim cards.

Using it with my 12 month Sim only ultd texts & data, and 100 mins :)

On another topic, does anyone know how to contact an ee store?

I've tried the locator on the tmobile site, but no one answers the number it gives :/
metronome#43
Does this work with O2 sim card or giffgaff can someone try as I just bought one for £520...!!!
bengutt#44
I've got one of these and they are really good. Knocks the socks off the HTC Sensation I'm replacing it with. Build quality is excellent, and despite my track record of scratching the screen within a hour of getting a new phone it's sill mark free. The charger is a redemption offer (or at least mine is).

It is locked to the EE, Orange and T-Mobile networks, but seems to also work on providers that run on those networks also. It doesn't work with o2 though.

thanks for checking... apparently you can pay orange £20 to unlock them, but wonder if you can get em to do that instore or do you have to wait 3 months :S?

Think they might tell me where to go ;)
finbaar#51
Such friendly banter on here

£409 - the 920 is dropping in price quite quickly. So it is pretty cheap now and worth a punt on PAYG. I will wait and see where the price ends up by spring. My plan was to get a 920/8X/Ativ S then as a second phone to my GNex. However, honestly, unless you really really need more storage than 16 gig or are a paid up WP fan boy I can't see how it is possible to look beyond the N4. I was going to skip this itteration of the Nexus but at £279 I wont be able to resist.

Oh and weight can be an issue. That is the reason I passed on my note to the missus - it was so bloody unwieldy when running or in shorts and loose clothing and the 920 is even heavier. This could be an issue for some.

Just to confirm, none of the 3 EE stores in York are selling this on PAYG/"Sim Free"... contract only.. and most didn't have it in anyway!

I just drove 20 odd mile after being told on the phone that one store had it in stock and were selling it on pay as you go.

Got to the store, told the fella there that I called earlier, then he said they actually had none in stock for pay as you go.

EE truly are an awful company to deal with.
